At Kansas City Bone & Joint, we're always looking for ways to better serve our patients. We understand that sprains, strains, fractures and sports injuries can happen anytime. With Orthopedics Now!, patients can receive immediate care - after hours - from the area's foremost orthopedic specialists and highly skilled mid-level providers.
While studying civil engineering and playing collegiate baseball I developed a unique appreciation for the musculoskeletal system, leading me into the field of orthopaedics. I am board certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. My clinical practice focuses on comprehensive treatment of the hand and upper extremity.
I became a part of Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic in August of 2008. I have always been attracted to orthopedics and upper extremity problems in particular. There's something satisfying about the approach of taking someone who's active, has an injury and can't do their activities, and then helping get them back to their activities.
I became a part of Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic in 2008 following completion of my fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. I am board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and have a special interest in Endoscopic (minimally invasive) carpal tunnel surgery, the treatment of hand and wrist arthritis and tennis elbow treatment. I am a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS), and MAYO alumni Association.

It took longer than I would have liked to get an initial appointment (10 days). But once in the office, everyone, from the front desk workers to the P.A., was super friendly and helpful. They did a quick XRAY, then the P.A. attended to me promptly. He was professional and seemed genuinely interested in helping me resolve my joint issue. He gave me good care guidance and offered several practical options.
A follow-up was promptly scheduled and prescription was sent to my pharmacy right away. The entire visit was very efficient. My issue was a relatively small one, but they had me in and out in about 30 minutes, and I definitely felt like my problem was addressed. And I was told they would see me right away if I needed anything before my scheduled follow-up. I would definitely recommend this clinic and Josef Maier, the P.A. who attended to me during my visit.

I was really impressed with the experience I had at Kansas City Bone & Joint. The ladies at the front desk were very inviting, helping me along the way for my first visit. Registering online before my appointment was convenient, quick, and easy. The MS PA-C (Brandon Saunders) I had was very knowledgeable about my condition and didn't mind taking his time answering my questions. I left feeling like I recieved all the information I was looking for and needed in order to make a life altering decision without feeling rushed.

My son was in an accident and needed surgery. We had insurance problems so we were referred here from children's mercy(I was NOT happy about) but after his appointment I feel like a million pounds of pressure is off my chest. I fully feel 100% comfortable letting him operate on my son. Dr Barnds hands down made this whole situation easier for us by breaking everything down and explaining exactly what was going to happen.

Mr. Saunders was very attentive to my concerns and needs. I was referred due to my left foot being slightly sprained. I am glad he didn't push for additional x-rays or surgery but to provide comfort and minimal alternative next steps. He educated me thoroughly as it pertained to my x-ray and options for physical therapy. What I appreciated the most is that he allowed me to advocate my desires and respected my request. I would recommend him to anyone I come in contact with for bone or fracture concerns. Thank you for your kindness.

I have visited with both Dr. Hiatt MD and his associate Josef Maier PA-C. They were very informative about my issue ( trigger finger) and what would need to be done. They also explained future options and what may need to be done to accomplish a good outcome if the issue resurfaced. They were both very well educated in my issue. I had fun spending time with them as well, good conversation. It was a great experience and I really liked them. They have a great bedside manner. Thanks for your help. They were referred by my primary care at College Park Family Care.

I was pretty nervous at my first appointment but it turned out to be a wonderful experience. From check in, to checkout, everything went so well. Everyone is very friendly. Dr. Saunders listened and validated all of my concerns. Scheduling and the patient portal are always very convenient features this clinic uses. Overall, I'm so happy this is the place I chose to have my fracture foot treated.
