Cataract extraction is one of the most common surgical procedures performed. Dr. Parelman and Dr. Unterman have personally performed thousands of these procedures and have taught other surgeons modern cataract extraction techniques. The actual procedure to remove a cataract typically takes only ten to fifteen minutes.
Diagram at Left This is usually due to a progressive disease known as Fuchs' dystrophy. Corneal swelling can also result from prior intraocular surgery. Infections, most commonly due to bacteria or herpes virus, can cause visually significant cornea scarring. Injuries can result in corneal damage by causing an opacified scar or a significant abnormality in corneal shape.
Glaucoma is a disease which may cause significant visual loss if not diagnosed and treated early. The most common form of this disease is open-angle glaucoma. The eye receives its nourishment from a clear fluid that circulates within, called aqueous humor. This aqueous humor returns to the blood stream through a drainage canal called the trabecular meshwork.
As a service to our patients, Mid-America Eye Center is happy to file both your primary, and when applicable, secondary insurance claims. Co-payments, non-covered services, and/or refraction charges are payable at the time of each visit. You may see a charge for a refraction (92015) on your statement and may wonder why this was charged separately from your eye examination or office visit charge.

Would not recommend using Dr. Unterman. VERY RUDE ACTED AS OF MY MOTHERS EYE SURGERY WAS A BURDEN. DID NOT GIVE MY MOTHER A CARE PACKAGE TILL 2 DAYS LATER. SURE THE SURGERY WENT GREAT BUT YOUR BEDSIDE MANNERS NEED IMPROVEMENT. YOU RUSHED SERVICE AS IF YOU HAD A CATTLE HEARD. DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS BUT IF YOU DONT LIKE HELPING PEOPLE WORK AT A WAREHOUSE. SHOW RESPECT TO PEOPLE WHO PAY YOU.

A bit rushed, not very detail-oriented. I came in with info on my old prescription, and was told that it "has not changed" after my eye exam, only to find that the new prescription had been incorrectly switched between left and right eyes, as well as my CYL and axis had been ignored from prior scripts. My prescription paperwork also was bare-bones in terms of details with no pupillary distance included. However, I do feel that they did a great job taking care of my eye health. Comprehensive care was taken towards imaging and my dilated eye exam. I just wish that the same attention was taken towards my prescription.

I think these three eyecare providers may have a toxic working relationship. They speak negatively about each other in front of patients and have complaints about the other ODs and MDs they work with and the treatment plans that were recommended. It's pretty unprofessional to speak like this in front of patients like my mother. Additionally, the bedside manner definitely is lacking. I am not sure why they think this behavior will keep patients coming back. The technicians and staff were friendly.

Mid America Eye Center is the best eye center. The staff is efficient, friendly and will go out of there way to answer questions. The front desk person, Miyoshi Fishback should be the top front desk person. She goes far and beyond to get to the bottom of any discrepancies I may have. Thank you for hiring staff that will look out for the patients.

I went here for a basic eye exam with Dr. Annette Manion and will never go back! If there was a zero star option I would select that. I had to make 3 different appointments here just to reconfirm the same glasses prescription and contact prescription that I already had. She recommended changes to my prescriptions that actually made my vision worse.
Her bedside manner on all three occasions were completely rude. The office also billed my insurance improperly. Their billing lady only has limited availability. When I asked a question about my bill the response from the front desk lady (Miyoshi) was, " I am off right now, but maybe I can explain this to you a little slower." I am a medical professional and familiar with billing. I will not be going here as a patient again or referring patients to this office.

What an excellent Obstetricians office! Not only were the doctor's very professional courteous and patient with their patients but the remaining staff were more than helpful in diligent in make sure that I was fully understanding of my gilling and was given discounts. I mean healthy discounts just for having cash in paying on the day of my appointment.
If every medical office did that the world would be a better place for those of ice without insurance. I will be returning to this establishment for all my I care needs from this day forward!

I went here as new patient for contacts. My experience overall wasn't the best and I will be going elsewhere next time I need an exam and lenses. The reasons being: 1. Dr. Manion was in such a hurry to get my exam done and lenses in so that I could get out the door that I felt extremely rushed. 2. She was selling me on a newer multi purpose and more expensive lens that didn't work for me so I had to return and get another lens and get "re fitted" as fast as possible. 3.
I had to return to order the lenses and make another trip to pick them up. Four trips and absences from work to get lenses that are not the as good a prescription for me as the one I had. My right eye is blurry now. I would return to have this corrected but they will charge for further adjustments even though the first adjustment was because of the more expensive lenses not working. 4) they took my insurance card and copied it but blamed me when they didn't know I had vision coverage so they charged me and were really not pleasant about getting the charge taken off my credit card.
I had a much better experience at Target and didn't need to take off work repeatedly. 5) the staff argued with the doctor in front of me in the waiting room regarding when I would go back to the exam room.
