Canceled my appointment without even calling me to let me know. They just sent me a text saying it was canceled with no explanation. When I called to ask about it the receptionist couldn't give me an actual reason it was canceled, just "oh the doctor must have something else that day." Great, why was my appointment scheduled for that time in the first place? Only options to reschedule were a month out and either not at the same location or at a different time when I'm unavailable. Wow so helpful! Thanks a ton.

I saw Dr. Slovenkai for a very rare condition in my toe called Fribergs syndrome from an injury. Many other doctors didn't want to come near me in fear surgery would make it worse. These doctors didn't have experience or knowledge to perform surgery. Dr Slovenkai was not hesitant and performed surgery. His expertise is the foot. I suffered with constant pain and mobility problems for two years. Thanks to this wonderful doctor I'm doing so much better. I'll always be grateful to him and will recommend him. Definitely 5 stars

I have unfortunately seen 3 different doctors in this practice due to injuries I sustained. Reason for 3 doctors is 3 different body parts and each doctor there has their specialty. This review will be based off 2 of the doctors I have seen there, I will write a second review about the third. I had a shoulder injury and I ended up being treated by Suzanne Miller, MD.
There are not enough words to describe how fantastic she is. She is so caring, patient and actually will look at you, and hear what your saying. She was always so responsive to everything I was going through and her treatment was always spot on. I had also ruptured my hamstring and went back to see Dr. Miller ( stupidly after trying a totally different orthopedic dr /office who did not treat the hamstring injury correctly). Again, she was nothing short of amazing. Her, her staff that work with her were always helpful and available.
Again her treatment of the injury and her honesty about the future limitations I was going to have was upsetting to hear, but honest. She gave me options for treatment and thoroughly explained consequences of surgery vs no surgery. I ended up no surgery, we went the conservative route and she supported me fully through the recovery. I saw Dr. Wuerz there for bilateral hip bursitis and I found his PA Steve Wright to be wonderful.
He was attentive, caring and thorough. Dr. Wuerz was very nice to, I found him to be thorough also, looking beyond the hips to see if something in my back was causing the hip pain. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Suzanne Miller, PA Steven Wright and Dr. Wuerz.

Dr. Wuerz and his team are top of the line. This is how all medical care should work. If you have bilateral hip impingement (which I was diagnosed with by other doctors in 2019), this is the expert to see. I returned to the US from my government posting abroad after hearing that Dr. Wuerz was the best of the best experts for hip impingement/FAI. Dr. Wuerz independently confirmed my diagnosis (FAI + labral tears on both hips) and constructed a path forward that involved evaluating PT, cortisone injections, and possibly surgery.
I ultimately needed surgery on each hip, and am very happy with the results. The team surrounding Dr. Wuerz reflects the quality of his care. His PA, Stephen Wright, was extremely knowledgeable and played a major role in my care. His assistant, Nina, worked through my endless questions about how to move forward with two surgeries (one for each hip) during COVID.
As a bonus, all three (Dr. Wuerz, PA Stephen, Asst Nina) have excellent bedside/patient manner. Appointments were on time. I always received clear, easy-to-understand answers to my medical questions. Surgery and PT in the months following surgery (both of which took place at the Baptist in Dedham) went swimmingly. Dr. Wuerz' care network end-to-end was highly efficient.
I went from being completely unable to run/exercise without pain in 2019 to well on the path to recovery and being pain free in 2020. If you have hip impingement, I highly recommend you see him for care. I never post publicly, but this team is exceptional and deserves the praise.

So unhappy with the outcome of my experience here with Dr. Wurtz. The way they handle their practice is very unproffesional. And yes, don't expect a phone call back. You are just a number. Heading back to my original orthopedic, as Dr. Wurtz was a recommendation. A terrible decision on my part to come here.

I have used 2 of the orthopedic Doctors in this practice. Back in 2012 Dr. Curtis did a "major clean up" on my shoulder. Yes, you are going to have to wait for him (bring a book or a fully charged phone) but he's good at what he does. Then a few years later I saw Dr. Richmond for knee issues, I did end up needing surgery. He was AMAZING, he spends time explaining your issue and will answer all your questions.
I believe he no longer is doing surgery but still sees patients. Fast forward to this year and I had an issue with my shoulder again so back to BSSC, I saw Dr. Curtis's PA Irene. I didn't have to wait long to see her. She ordered a MRI and put my mind to rest when she said "a cortisone shot and PT. Many weeks later I'm doing much better and have avoided a second surgery on my shoulder.
Yes you will have to wait to see some of these MDs and PAs in this office but it's worth it. And yes it's a pain in the butt to get them on the phone at times, but it's worth it.

I am currently a patient here and just had a complicated hip surgery, now 10 days post op. This facility has world-class physicians, and the Beth Israel Outpatient center location in Dedham is also phenomenal. The care and attentiveness from the staff, nurses, and surgical coordinators is unparalleled. Dr Wuerz is one of the top hip surgeons in the country and is one of the nicest people I've ever been treated by for anything.
I can't speak for the other physicians, but from what I've seen, the caliber of care here is best in class. They are very experienced and good at what they do. The front desk seems to have some newer people from these earlier negative reviews. They are very nice and keep you updated. I have never waited more than 15 minutes to see the doctor or to get X-Ray's done.
I think some people have unrealistic expectations. If they can't answer the phone because they're busy seeing patients, try sending them a message in the online portal. They're pretty quick to reply. Most of the people complaining seem to be about logistics and insurance costs they were billed, that's on you not them.

I had a good experience with the specialist doctor. Very knowledgeable on the recommended approach to surgery. However, the office management there is a disaster. Pick up the phone people. Five calls and sent into the general voicemail each time. You must leave messages and wait for a call back. Not the best approach when patients are sometimes trying to schedule important time sensitive surgery and can't reach a human being. I took my business elsewhere where I was able to speak with an actual human being.

I used this office to get a second opinion for a shoulder issue. Saw Dr. Weitzel and his PA. Visit was very thorough and was very helpful. Dr. Weitzel is very professional, confident without being arrogant and his PA Mr. Pacheco was very thorough and knowledgeable. Dr. Weitzel suggested an alternative to surgery I had planned, and so far it's working out well.
Their office is busy and appointment ran later than scheduled, but Dr. apologized for delay. I was very impressed with their whole operation and will likely go back to them for follow up issues if they arise.

This facility prescribed medicine I am allergic to as well as not completing the application of a splint. In fact, the nurse ran off with no explanation and dropped a second strap on the floor. No directions on how to properly apply. If you like getting a nerve block while wide awake, then this is the place to give your money.

P.A. "Jason Rand" is reason enough to go to BSSC. He is amazing. Attentive. Listens to exactly what the patient wants. I've had a lot of complications on my knees the past few years, which forced me to have two prosthetics put in recently. As anyone knows trying to get a CT scan, MRI, x-rays etc. from a medical faculty is sometimes like pulling teeth, not with Jason!
I requested numerous ones in the past from Lahey Clinic w/o success. I kept having pain in my knees after the first surgery, and Jason listened to me and ordered exactly what I asked for (even though I think he felt it was redundant), and they found loose foreign bodies causing my pain that required Dr. Thomas Wuerz to go back in to repair. Unfortunately for me the cement came loose again and Jason asked for further CT scans and MRI's without question.
They found that the cement came loose again, and Dr Brian McKeon is going in tomorrow to alleviate the issue. I had the original prostheses put in by a Duke doctor in North Carolina. Although most doctors wouldn't take a patient that used another doctor for the initial surgery, BSSC took me right in. I couldn't be happier with them. Mark Thomas, Esq. PS. The phone situation is as someone put it above not the greatest.

Dr. Slovenkai is wonderful! Highly recommended for ankle surgery! Performed a major surgery on my ankle. I have been having ankle problems for years, I am still recovering from the surgery but my ankle is feeling great! Better than ever actually! Dr. Slovenkai is thorough, caring, and overall a great doctor. Would definitely recommend him!

I broke my right ankle more than 8 times playing sports in High School, College and my adult life. I was getting to the point walking was very difficult and my leg starting to shift sideways. Going to many doctors over the years I thought my condition would be as good as it would get. Finally my wife told me there must be someone who can help you out.
I visited Mass General and a couple other hospitals and was not comfortable with the information coming back. I found Dr. Slovenkia two years ago and had 11 screws and a plate put in the side of my ankle. It took 6 months to recover but it was well worth it. Today I walk with no pain, exersize regularly and will be forever thankful to Dr Slovenkia and his staff for what they did for me and my family.

For better part of fifteen years I had a terrible time with my left ankle that just kept getting worst as the years went by. From therapy to shots and various braces my quality of life was awful and I had it when I took my grandchildren to the local train show and after two hours was unable to stand the pain. I came very close to getting it fused here in Springfield MA where I live when Dr at NEB was recommended.
It has been four years and based on my experience things could not have not gone any better. He said he'd fix my ankle and I'd have no pain and he was right. I am retired, golf three, four time a week and more importantly don't give my ankle a second thought!

My experience today at BSSC was horrific. The doctor that saw me was confused. His bedside manner was abrupt. He asked me the same question over and over- after I answered clearly. Bottom line. I feel he treated me as number vs a patient and I am not sure his recommendation for treatment was even intended for me. Horrible!

Suzanne Miller was amazing! She gave me my options with ruptured hamstrings x 2 events and surgically reattached them on each leg. Not easy, she was honest about the risks and the difficulty post-operatively. I was willing to take the risks and believe in her abilities. I am grateful for her and her skill. I feel like the end results were all if not more than I could hope for in both cases and it helped me get my athletic life back that would have been problematic forever had I not taken the chance.
She and the PA Heather nurtured my arthritic knee as long as I could tolerate and referred me when I felt it was time. I have since had bilateral TKR's and am whole again. I always felt like they had my best interest in mind and listened well. I am forever grateful and am a happy skier and athlete again at the age of 51! I have ZERO regrets only gratitude and thanks for the exceptional outcomes! THANK YOU!

No knife, no care? I saw Dr Weitzel for a first time consult on shoulder pain and mobility and got the feeling he had zero interest in my case because it wasn't immediately surgical. He was dismissive and condescending, chalking my pain up to "age", even though I'm under 50, and he didn't even touch or move my arm to help establish the source of pain. The two assistants before him (an intern and a PA) spent more time asking me questions and palpating my shoulder. I won't be going back.

By Ursula G. on Oct 14th, 2015 I languished for a number of years convinced by other medical professionals that I had bursitis in my left shoulder. It felt like I had broken glass in my shoulder. It was very uncomfortable especially during sleep. Evidently I had bone spurs that tore my rotator cuff confirmed by an MRI. I followed the post-surgery protocol and physical therapy to the letter.
I have a new, pain free shoulder with decent range of motion. I can't recommend this surgery enough. Dr. Weitzel is excellent and honorable mention to his knowledgeable and competent, PA, Tom. My only regret is that I waited so long. Don't suffer needlessly. http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Paul_Weitzel/reviews#ixzz3oYEG5Zhs

Dr. Slovenkai perfomed a microfracture drilling on my tibia for an osteochondral defect (legion in cartilage) as well as a debridement of most posterior tibial tendon (running injury) in October 2008. I had been to a number of surgeons before seeing him, not wanting to get surgery (about 8 months of talking to other doctors). He has a great reputation as a ankle surgeon. He's very upbeat, energetic but no nonsense.
He clearly explained to be the benefits/risks of the surgery. And overall, it went very well. I am without pain and am back to running. The follow-ups went well and I felt very confident he knew what he was doing. I really like him personally. Cons: He's speaks very quickly and seems a bit rushed at time, however he will take the time to answer any questions, but prepare your questions first! you might forget when you are in there! Another con: it's tough to get an appointment with him, but that's a sign of a GOOD doctor!

This practice is as gooda s it can get. I have been treated by both Paul Weitzel and Mark Slovenkai. The staff treats each patient as an individual and takes their concerns seriously. The doctors are the best and have not stopped until my complex issues were taken care of. Definitely worth the trip from Revere.
