Hospice of Yuma had a true grassroots beginning right here in Yuma. In 1979, a local group of medical professionals attended a hospice conference in Phoenix. They returned to Yuma and recognized that the community had a need for hospice services. Over the next year they actively discussed and recruited input from the community. The group met faithfully every week, adding new participants from the community. By November of that year, Hospice of Yuma was established as a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) charity with the IRS and opened its doors.

Services
Licensed Nursing Assistants to provide bathing, dressing, and other personal care for patients. Medications, medical equipment, and supplies that are related to the life-limiting diagnosis are delivered to the patient's doorstep. Volunteers can provide companionship and additional assistance with errands and other activities such as cleaning dishes, getting groceries, reading to the patient, or simply holding their hand.
Your hospice team of professionals and volunteers work for you. Not only will you receive the finest medical care under our medical director and nurses who work closely with your own doctor, but you and your family may benefit from a social worker, a chaplain, a bereavement coordinator, licensed nursing assistants, homemakers, and a host of volunteers.
As the community's only non-profit provider, Hospice of Yuma has cared for thousands of patients and families since 1981 by providing compassionate hospice and palliative care, grief counseling, and support to terminally ill patients of all ages, their families, and the community. Patients are eligible for our care any time after a physician diagnoses them with a terminal illness and the patient has a prognosis of six months or less.
The time of grieving is often the most painful and overwhelming period that a person will experience. Inevitably, grief touches all of our lives. Hospice of Yuma has a bereavement program in place for those family members who are left behind after the loss of their loved one who was on our services.

Where to start! We are often guided to places in our lives without fully understanding at that time why. I was lead to Hospice of Yuma over 4 years ago to become a Volunteer. Little did I realize the impact of volunteering would have on me as I lived my own life. I have witnessed first hand what Hospice truly means. I have witnessed first hand the absolute kindness and caring that comes from this non-profit.
I will never, ever forget the impact of being affiliated with Hospice of Yuma. I am grateful to have spent time with those who's journey was nearing an end. Even I have had dear friends contact me who's time was nearing to ask me how it worked with Hospice of Yuma. I told them that all they needed to do was make the call, Hospice of Yuma will take care of them and their needs.
I learned that even I had a misunderstanding of what "Hospice" was. Hospice of Yuma helps you and your loved ones to "live" through those precious final days. Their patient care is phenomenal with much love and care.

The thrift itself has a lot of great finds from Artwork to furniture and clothes, TVs, dish sets etc. The ladies that work or volunteer there SOME NOT ALL are not the nicest people. I guess one lady thinks because she's an old lady it's okay to be mean to you and can say mean and uncalled for things and then just walk away when someone is trying to talk to you. They follow you around while you're there looking around. Nice stuff but grumpy old ladies and a few nice ones.

I was interested in shopping here, so I went by. I had my 50 lb boxer on his leash, and asked at the door if we could shop. I was told yes, and went in. I had almost browsed my way to the back, when I was told that we had to leave because "dogs have to be carried". Huh? Why? "Store policy." Not a law, not an ordinance, not even that we bothered anyone.
Just because he stands on his own legs. Well, we left. I don't like it, and I didn't buy any of the items I had been considering. Next time, we will damn well tell them, "That's fine, we got this!"

I've been too many thrift stores and by far this is the worst. Great cause and the people who took care of my grandpa were phenomenal and I have np supporting them and there ridicules prices. WHAT I WILL NOT SUPPORT IS THERE PREJUDICE STAFF. I am a young mom and I had been here years ago and vowed to never go back. When my grant passed months ago and my grandma wanted to give his clothes to hospice thrift of course I did.
Not realizing it was the same place until I walked in. First thing they asked me what my bag of clothes is that I brought in? To the donation place they asked me what a bag is? Okay anyways I ignore a few other passive remarks and start browsing immediately the lady says the dressing rooms full! I ignore her bc I literally just walked in and clearly have NO CLOTHES IN MY HAND.
Another lady comes up and says "What she was saying is the dressing room is full" well I simply reply I'm not going in there. SHE CONTINUED TO FOLLOW ME AROUND. Finally after so much bs witch is somewhat understandable but not really I just look for my gma to leave but o see art supplies me and my daughter love art so of course I croutch to look.
Then the same lady come running over (looking for me ) once she realized I'm starting straight at her she says oh I was just looking for someone. so after about 8-10 rude things only about 3 of witch I mentioned I finally decided to pay and never return. After one more rude encounter I left and vowed to never return. I haven't seen problems with race so I'm gonna assume it was another old bitch who doesn't like that I'm a teen mom, but I felt completely disrespected. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Overpriced and miserable old ladies.

During the final days of my Dad's life, I thank God for hospice. Specifically Angie. She was the most patient, understanding, and caring person. She went above and beyond what I had expected a hospice nurse to be. Thank God we had Angie taking care of our family through this difficult time! She is a very special person! Thank you again for everything, Angie!

Good assortment, especially nice prices on furniture. Their items are reasonably priced and their staff is Very friendly. The store is immaculate, and the friendly old ladies are so helpful. This store is not very large, so it won't take a lot of time to go through. It's well organized so if you're on a mission for something, you'll find it quickly.

Hospice of Yuma Thrift Shop is the best. The quality and presentation of merchandise is equal to any retail store in Yuma.everyday there are specials and a " Thrifter " can always find a bargain. This is a true gem for Yuma and all the proceeds goes toward the special needs and care of the patients under " Hospice of Yuma " at absolutely no charge to them. So go " Thrifting " Virginia McDermott
