Everyone was so polite and efficient from the front desk to Medical assistant to the doctor. I was out within 30 minutes and seen thoroughly.

Appointment was on time and Dr. Kwak very thorough in checking out my recent cataract operation. He also scheduled my next annual visit. Very pleased.

My glasses and my backup pair of glasses broke within a day of each other. I went to The Eye Center, Shady Grove Road, and Dr. Fu examined me and gave me a new prescription. I needed a new frame and lenses, plus new lenses in an old frame. I compared prices and Eyeland in Aspen Hill was a couple of hundred dollars less than the Eye Center. When my new glasses and lenses came there was a major problem.

They were bifocals and the reading portion was unusable. I had to hold things a couple of inches from my face. Bob and Terry at Eyeland assured me that the lenses were made to my new prescription. Back to the Eye Center. I was reexamined--turns out Dr. Fu had written the wrong number on my prescription. He gave me a strength of +3 and it should have been +2.

He gave me a new prescription. I told him that I'd just spent over a thousand dollars on new glasses using his wrong prescription. He told me I should try to work out something with the eyeglass place. He was very pleasant, but he did not apologize nor take responsibility for his mistake. Fortunately for me, Eyeland didn't take the same attitude.

Even though the mistake was Dr. Fu's and not theirs, Eyeland covered me for two sets of new lenses which came very quickly. Thanks entirely to Eyeland, I had new glasses and backups with the the right prescription.

I ordered an eyeglass on 4/5 and was promised to receive it in two weeks. I didn't receive it at the promised time, and I made many calls. There was only a voice mail response, and no one ever responded to me. I need this glass for an important family event on May 8. I made another call in the week of 4/25; I pleaded with the clinical appointment line to ask the optical unit since the optical line was always put me in voice mail, and they never responded to the message left.

One staff finally answered me and told me that the frame was delayed, but he promised that it would be available to me on May 4. But no one called me for any information during the week of May 4; no single call back despite several messages left. I was very unsatisfied with such poor and reckless customer service. I sent them another email on May 4 and expressed my satisfaction with their service.

I informed them that if I could not receive the glass and they kept ignoring my requests for the information, I would cancel my order. Again, no one responded to me during the entire week of May 4.

Each staff I met was professional and friendly. I loved the way Jenny explained everything in detail as she conducted each test. She was also the only one, ever, to provide feedback and affirmation as I read the eye chart (with both numbers and letters). Dr. Kwak was also very personable and relaxed. Not that I can see much with dilated eyes, but he did not seem to be in a rush or show impatience during my time with him.

I had many questions and concerns, to say the least. I actually had another appointment scheduled with another cataract Surgeon just to get a second opinion but canceled it after I met with Dr. Kwak.

I'm a long-term patient at The Eye Center. I have Sjogren's Syndrome and have had great care with the things that can occur when you have Extremely dry eyes. I had Cataract Surgery over 7 years ago~ with no problems. I recently met Dr. Fu, and was impressed by the thorough and complete eye examination I received and with his diagnosis and suggested solution. I completely recommend this practice!

Dr. Kwak is my eye doc. He is the best. I trust him completely. He fixed my cataracts. His staff is exceptional! I would highly recommend him to everyone. Just don't take my spot with him.

I highly recommend The Eye Center with no reservation. The front desk staff members were courteous. Checking in was a breeze. Dr. Allen and Jen were thorough and attentive. Dr. Allen answered all of my questions and provided thoughtful responses. I look forward to returning to this practice.

Dr. Allen is the most patient, informative, humble, experienced and genuine ophthalmologist that you will ever encounter. As a Physician Assistant and as a patient I highly recommend her. When you are in the room with her, her target attention is only on you the patient and will address each and every concern you may possibly have. The other medical professionals and office staff that you interact with are amazing and phenomenal.

You feel like a queen from the time you make an appointment on the phone, enter into their office, see each health care professional and the office staff. You will never have second thoughts with coming to this practice.

Excellent practice. Couldn't ask for a better doctor, technician and oreyeglass technician who helped me select my glasses. He adjusted my prescription so that it would be perfect for my computer work and for reading. He took the time to figure out which strength would work best because the computer sits farther away than where I hold my reading material. They are very careful to sterilize everything that is touched. Very safe. They took excellent care of me. I would highly recommend this practice.

I haven't had my eyes checked in a year now and absolutely needed an appointment. I booked one over 2 weeks prior with the doctor I had seen before. 1 day prior to my appointment I got a call about how now they don't take my insurance. Only to find out they do if you have a medical condition. Which I do. So instead of explaining in a nice proper way they just wanted to cancel it.

Then they ended up saying I could have the appointment. I show up and she tells me at the front that it's NOT EVEN WITH the doctor I had been going to. This office is all sorts of messed up. Women at the front is rude and not understanding either. Not going back here. So disrespectful and they just want money. They don't care about your eyes or helping you.

I had the best experience with Dr. Fu and The Eye Center last week! I'm two months postpartum and experiencing eye dryness as well as some pressure, so I decided to drop in for a visit. The office was very clean, office staff was friendly and helpful, hand sanitizer was readily available, and social distancing was practiced. Dr. Fu was very patient and professional; even though the office was busy, he did not make me feel rushed. I was able to get my contacts prescription updated and he also gave me some samples to try. It's safe to say that I have found my new ophthalmologist!

This past week I took my 85-year-old aunt for an eye exam with Dr. Fu. Not only was he wonderful, but the whole staff was friendly and efficient! It was one of the best experiences I have ever had with an eye doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Fu and the Eye Center.

Had the worst experience! The managers are very unprofessional in order for you to get in contact with someone from optical! It can take up to days they will let you leave a voice mail! What kind of business is that!. They would try to up-sale you in any kind of way! In other words money is above great costumer service. Anyways I hope this review helps you just Being honest!

Extremely unsatisfied with the receptionist's (Maria) customer service. She put me on hold and then forgot about me (no apology), was short with me when asking for my personal information, and was coughing loudly into the phone (again no excuse me or sorry about that, let me put you on hold). She had terrible phone manners. As a potential new patient, she is enough to turn me away. Please re-train her on answering phones and communicating professionally.

I've been jumping around the last few years trying to find an optometry office I like. The last few years I have gone to practices in Howard County where I live and wasn't too pleased so I decided I would try one closer to work this year. The office is located on the front side of the building and can be seen from Shady Grove Road. I read some bad reviews for this practice but thought I would give it a try anyways.

I am glad I decided to give them a chance. All the staff were friendly from the front desk to Jose who did my initial screening before I met with Dr. Courtney Goode. Unlike at other practices, I was elated to learn they don't do the test where a puff of air gets blown into your eyes. That alone is reason enough for me to be a returning customer.

They sell eyewear there and I was informed by Dr. Goode that any of the eyeglasses can be customized to be sunglasses. I still have 20/20 vision so don't have a need for any eyewear this year but know it's inevitable in the near future given my age. Thank you to the staff and Dr. Goode for their wonderful customer service.

It is sad to say that the front desk in this place was disgusting. Both Susan and Sharon had bad attitude towards me when asking the most simple question. I tried talking to the other front desk after the first one was rude but clearly they don't know how to talk to others. I didn't even get a chance to meet with one of the doctors but with this kind of staff I wouldn't want to meet who hired them. NO THANKS.

I have been a patient of Dr. Allen for many years and all I have to say is that she is simply the best! She's very knowledgeable, friendly, and positive. I appreciate her enthusiasm and professionalism and I've never thought about going elsewhere to get my routine eye exams. She makes you feel comfortable during the process! The wait time is always decent but I always schedule for my appointments early and the staff are pleasant and friendly! They're organized and will get you in and out quick. I'm not sure why others have had a negative experience with their visit but I can't say the same.

I have been seeing Dr. Allen for years. Was referred to Dr. Kwaw for cataract surgery, and I will never go back. Unprofessional front office staff, rude office manager. I'm going elsewhere for my surgery, which is not a simple cataract issue.

I had a great experience at The Eye Center at Shady Grove. The staff was helpful, kind, quick to answer all my questions. The service was impressive. They really work with you. I had been in search for a new pair of lenses and they had a great variety to choose from! I really liked a pair of sunglasses that were on display, so they used those frames to make me a pair of regular lenses! Above all it was a fantastic experience.

I have been with them for over 10 years because I didn't know I could do better. Their doctors are wonderful but scheduling is a problem. They never have appointments available. The contact lense coordinator has never picked up the phone when I call for the past 10 years- we always communicate through voice mail. I'm pretty sure they purposefully allow their phone to go straight to voicemail. It's frustrating to play phone tag.

While the doctors are great, the office is very busy and the quality of service has gone down. They need to hire more staff for the amount of doctors and patients they have. I have since moved on and I am much much happier.

I cannot give no stars, so. Scheduling nightmares. As a new patient, I had FOUR visits in a month. Initial screening. Testing. Results. More testing. Miscommunications between professional and support staff. Practices that inconvenience patients (at the least) or border on excess billing of insurance (at the worst). Equipment that "just doesn't seem to work" when screening for glaucoma? Really? Supposedly the main physician is planning to retire. Choose another choice, people!

Will never go back. The medical assistant and sales lady were immature and rude. The doctor didn't give me the time of day nor did she listen to my concerns. After meeting with a neuro ophthalmologist, he was shocked that I was not given a visual field test at TEC after explaining my issue. Don't waste your time!

DO NOT GO HERE! This was the worst experience I have had in my 30 years of dealing with medical "professionals". When I booked my appointment and provided my insurance info, I was quoted $20 copay for the exam and $20 copay towards glasses and the benefits. After my exam was over, I was told I owed the $20 plus $190 for a contact lens exam, first time there was ever a mention of an additional fee!

I asked to speak with the billing coordinator who apparently was not there that day, when she called me the next day she said it was actually $20 for the eye exam, $60 for the contact fitting. While still not happy I wasn't told ahead of time, this seemed more reasonable that $190. I paid and said I was going out of town for work and would come back in a couple of weeks to place an order for glasses/contacts.

When I came back and tried to place an order, I was told my insurance was used up for the year. After calling the insurance company, turns out they used my lens/glasses allotment to pay the $190 exam fee. This was obviously not acceptable, their initial solution was that I pay an additional $80 out of pocket and they would "release" my insurance so I could then spend more money with them on glasses etc. Again, not acceptable, and my insurance company agreed.

I was told to call "Mina" about billing, she said she would look into it and call me back. The next day, still no word, called again and left a message for the "unavailable Mina", never heard back. Fortunately, my insurance company understood the incompetence and/or shady nature of this business and allowed me to go to another eye doctor.

I would not recommend this office. While the scheduling and initial on-boarding of new patient information was great, the actual visit to this office was disappointing. The office itself is clean. welcoming and spacious. It was the experience with the practitioners that was frustrating. The young assistant who performed my eye exam looked at my birth date, and asked "how does it feel getting old?" I thought she was joking, as I am not yet even 30.

She then told me she was only 22. When Dr. Hammer then came in to conduct my contact fitting, she was very nice. But merely gave me my prescription and said "Have a nice day". I walked out the exam room without a clue of any next steps, can I buy contacts here? Should I order online? Where do you recommend I go? I booked my appointment to also get a new pair of glasses, was I able to shop around?

I was a first time patient! I told them initially that I was there for both contact lenses and glasses. I got the feeling they didn't want to sell me either product. I am taking my prescription to another practitioner. hopefully that provides customer service and will help me actually purchase contacts and a new pair of glasses.

Like other reviews here, I too feel that the doctors are cool & the rest of the organization is an absolute mess. Don't bother calling their one and single phone number unless you strictly plan on making an appointment. You won't speak with anyone. No one is available regardless of when you call in & the automated answering service is both unnavigable and insufferable.

I see some comments regarding the non-doctor-staff being friendly. Be that as it may, their incompetence and lethargy are characteristics that I feel are more important to address when it comes to dealing with matters of health. You may be friendly, but if you're a friendly idiot, you're of no use to me for my medical needs.

Returning for a check-up, I received an appointment the following day. The office is spacious and comfortable. After the registration formalities, I hardly had enough time to read a magazine article. A technician's exam and review of my existing prescription was followed by a comprehensive exam with Dr. Allen. She is attentive, professional and skilled. they have a wide selection of frames and added lens features. I'll be returning when the time comes next year.
