Services
The mission of Bread for the City is to help Washington, DC residents living with low income to develop their power to determine the future of their own communities. We provide food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty. We seek justice through community organizing and public advocacy.
Started in 1974, Bread for the City is an award-winning front line agency serving Washington's poor. The agency began as two organizations; Zacchaeus Free Clinic began in 1974 as a volunteer-run free medical clinic, and Bread for the City was created in 1976 by a coalition of downtown churches to feed and clothe the poor.

This organization does a lot for the community. It is good to know that they are there when needed. The HRA dog food pantry and vaccination clinic is a Blessing

I love bread for the city when I go there. But as far as the food that they deliver, I'm not sure what's going on with that. This is what I recieved to feed a family of 2.

My experience with the staff was awesome; however the volunteer legal staff was the worst. For basic legal issues, a basic guide should be provided with FAQs at minimum. A simple checklist of the process with references for low-income, veterans and people with disabilities would be a great start for issues like bankruptcy. I was only provided a link, the same link that I shared in my session - so, therefore I received nothing, but a waste of my time.
