We all dread that moment. Anxiety starts to set in as the pain creeps up and you realize you will probably end up spending the next 5-10 hours sitting in the Emergency Room. Sometimes you might try to walk it off, see if it feels better in a couple of hours because you really don't have the time to go to the ER.
Our physicians at Coastal Orthopedics are devoted to delivering world-class care and comprehensive services that include diagnosis and treatment. Our physicians are board-certified and are some of the top-rated surgeons and specialists in the country. We treat a wide range of musculoskeletal problems including shoulder and elbow, hip and knee, and many diseases and injuries that can affect your ability to do the things you love to do.

Had my left knee replaced in April. Dr. Alan Valadie is awesome. I also wanted to give a shout out to Eric in physical therapy. He was the best. So nice and caring. He is a wonderful therapist and Coastal is lucky to have him!

I came to this location regarding a follow up for a fracture. After waiting for 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time the entire group of us waiting in the lobby were then informed it would be another hour and a half until we would be able to be seen. Simply unacceptable combined with the fact that the next most available appointment was over two weeks away.

I came out of my appointment with Dr. Siriani yesterday so stunned, so disappointed, so "helpless". I met Dr. Siriani 2 years ago and he was friendly, understanding & showed compassion. This time I really wonder if it was the same person in front of me. He had not even compared my MRI from 2 yrs ago with the new one. I had to point out to him the discrepancies between the 2.

He didn't offer me a real solution to my problems and agonizing pain. He refused to refill my painkillers and suggested to take Tylanol! When I asked about possible interaction in between 2 medicines he told me he was not a chemist so I should asked my pharmacist! etc. etc. When "I" suggested an epidural like 2 yrs ago he suggested to check first the cost (I don't have insurance) with the front desk which didn't want to give me an appointment before billing dept would contact me!

They still didn't. Two yrs ago I got the appointmt immediately!.And by the way they asked me a $1000 up front before I could get my first appointment! So there I am left to my suffering & helplessness! I guess I will have to turn to somewhere else.

Beware. when I made my appointment with the scheduler, she didn't check my insurance for coverage. Needless to say, the day before the appointment, I was told I would have to pay out of pocket, if I came to the appointment. After waiting a month for the appointment and receiving this news, a day before the appointment, I was beyond upset. Coastal Orthopedics has gotten too big and training their staff lack-of!

Use to be good but has gone downhill. Office staff are seriously lacking, availability is poor. Maybe to big now so I'll find another practice that gives better attention.

Surgeons are good at their work.the customer service and follow up is something to be desired. Example: had my shoulder replaced and PT wasn't working because of elbow pain. It took three visits to get them to give me a steroid for my elbow so I could continue Pt. After steroid shot, it took only two weeks for me to be 100% mobile. Next, I had two knee surgeries.

Both times I had surgery I needed a refill for my pain. The first time it took four phone calls, home health and pharmacy to respond. It took a week and I lived with nightly pain. This second time I started on Monday to request a refill for pain.it is now Thursday and my home health, my pharmacy and I have left several messages with no response. I wake up several times a night crying from pain. Tylenol only works so far.

Something is off here, I'm waiting a week to book a mri, less than descriptive what to do for care in the meantime. 6 voicemail and no call back to schedule mri.one per day. Place is broken and I call and most time phone is busy, have no way to escalate.

Was recommended as a family member had knee surgery here and I have been having issues for a bit, thought it best to get it checked out. The night before I read the bad reviews and questioned myself but then remembered an aesthetician told me that Yelp is wheee dreams go to die/people go to vent. I had an amazing experience with Dr Valadie, filled out all the paperwork online and brought my laptop as I have as expecting a long wait time.

But went right in, Katie the assistant was so nice and we spoke for a little bit then went in for Z-rays, the girls were nice also. Then Dr V came in, shook my hand, which was nice - haven't touched anyone except family since the pandemic began. We decided on a conservative treatment (therapy for 6 weeks) and then if I'm still having issues, am MRI. I highly recommend this place! He spent more time with me than my heart doctor and I have an actual heart issue

Pt is great. Customer service needs a tiny adjustment. Most seniors need reassurance and courtesy. Have had four surgeries there in five years. When you walk up to a desk and the receptionist simply stares at you without asking if they need assistance, but continues to simply stare, this is an issue. I never feel as if I have their attention and they will literally walk away from you when they see you standing waiting for assistance. Classes in costumer service would be helpful.

Went to Coastal and Dr. Constant for spinal pain. Major reduction in one visit. Dr. Constant and his staff in particular Memory Smith were awesome. Fun bunch of people and still professional throughout the entire process. I knew exactly what to do, to prepare and exactly what was going on. No surprises. The administrative part was a breeze and highly organized. I walked out not having a single question answered. Art

I returned to Coastal Orthopedics at their Pointe West location today to have my leg brace adjusted. I was serviced by Anthony from the casting office who is an outstanding orthopedic technician. He immediately recognized the problem and went over and beyond to make the precise adjustments. Anthony has excellent customer service skills to complement his technical expertise. I left there extremely satisfied and grateful thanks to Anthony's assistance.

After a fall resulting in a hip fracture, Dr. Datilla performed a total hip replacement. Due to post-op complications, he has followed me closely and kept me well informed every step of the way. He has been very patient with me and his bedside manner is one that is not seen often these days. If you need a caring, kind, well-educated and skillful surgeon, you should consider Dr. Datilla.

Dr. O'Daly is the best! My surgery two years ago to fix a lifelong drop foot was a success and life changing. It was a long complicated surgery and recovery. Tendons had to be rerouted, pins put in place and foot bone reset. Now I can walk straight with no pain and wear shoes without lifts and props. He is a surgical artist and knows his stuff. I highly recommend him. Thank you Dr. O'Daly!

Only go here if you like spending all day in waiting rooms, only to find out you're not actually checked in. The front desk staff to get into the doctor is incompetent and unhelpful. So much so, that I would choose a different doctors office to avoid them entirely. The only reason they get 2 stars is b/c the actual doctor, Dr. Melissa Boyette, was fantastic. Kind, helpful, efficient, and actually listened. Real bummer, but they lost me as a patient.

I was searching for a orthopedic evaluation on my shoulder and the GP wanted to refer me to Coastal. I found that interesting in the fact that in 2016, I went to Coastal and was seen by Dr. Valadie, This was the end of November. He stated that I needed to have meniscus surgery immediately, before Christmas, He had ordered test and said that I had almost 70% damage.

He spent about 15 minutes with me and his nurse came in to schedule. I said I had questions and was concerned about the immediate need.my questions went unanswered. I received follow up conversations about collecting the out-of-pocket in advance which I didn't have a problem with, but said I had additional questions as to the 'rush'.

The associate asked if I was a Doctor.which I stated 'No', but I was the patient! No one called for a week and then it was again to collect out of pocket expenses. I said unless I got a call back. Cancel', the procedure. Never heard a word from them. Went to another ortho in Tampa, he prescribed PT and monitored the condition. I recently had a x-ray of the same knee and was informed that in fact it does show damage.but less than 25% and would only recommend PT. Wow, 5 years later and no surgery. WTH!

So far I have no complaints. I'm scheduled for surgery this Friday. Ankle replacement. Of course I'm scared. This Dr O'Daly has assured me that everything will be fine. I'm looking for anyone who has had ankle surgery to ask questions or anyone who has received care from Dr O'Daly. Thanks in advance.

Two days before surgery I had to open up a credit care credit card to pay upfront for my surgery. They spring this last minute so you don't have time to find anything else. Over 3 months later I figure out that their math is wrong, that all I owed them was $28 yet I had taken out a credit card loan for almost $860. They should have noticed but say returning money is a slow process and time consuming so it may take several MORE months.uhm, I'm not ok with that!

They sure are good at taking your money, but returning it that's not going to happen. The place is a mill. Don't expect to be able to talk with your doctor, he is too important to waste time on you. No one called after surgery which I've never had happen but then again, they had their money so that's that! UPDATE: Coastal has agreed to refund my money but is so angry about it that the manager (Iris) hung up on us, from earlier conversations I learned that said credit could take an additional 8weeks.

The money will go back on the credit card they made me take out (note: other Doc let you pay in installments, here you take out a high interest credit card). Then, I'll need to request a refund from this medical credit card, that will take another 60 days. With reputable credit cards, you can request a credit refund on-line or via phone, not here, you have to submit a written request snail mail, same process for a dispute for which I qualify. what a racket!

At this rate I should see the $826 that I over paid 8 months later. I don't call that consumer friendly! Iris also threaten to call the police if we called again, this was because we (Nicely) asked for a copy of our medical file (which by law we are entitle to) but they don't want to furnish that either, likely for fear of malpractice.

Everyone had great hospitality and was knowledgeable. All of my Dad's concerns were addressed promptly and with courtesy. I especially liked how everyone checked on him regularly. Dr. Arthur Valadie has great bedside manners and is an excellent surgeon. Thank you for taking great care of my father!

My wife was sent here with what was guessed to be a pinched nerve. She could not walk or put pressure on her leg. After an XRAY and 2 MRI and being sent from a hip Dr. To a back Dr. To a pain management Dr. None of them knew what she had. They gave her an epidural which did nothing. Made her do physical therapy which only aggrevate the pain. They didn't even know what it was but made her do therapy.

Every time information was supposed to me given to us by a specified time frame it never happened. I found myself having to make multiple calls to get anything moving along because they would communicate back. They requested a wheelchair and never followed up on it. I called for 2 weeks straight asking about this wheel chair They said call the place we ordered it from.

No concern for the patient. I had to call baycare to get it done. Took me 1hr on the phone and 3 supervisors to get it done. After a month of failed treatments, lack of communication and thousands of dollars my wife was still in constant scruiting pain. Finally with no other options I caved and went to an acupuncturist. My wife and I didn't believe it to be a recognized medicine so we were concerned it may make things worst but with the pain she was in there was no other option.

This lady withing 5 minutes diagnosed my wife and treated her. Within the hour my wife was walking for the first time in a month. The physical therapy staff was great. No problems with them at all. In fact they were the ones who said not to continue with the therapy. So basically the reply says. we have to do the things insurance tells us even if it means is not what would be most appropriate based on the level or urgency or pain of the patient. because. money.

I assumed the doctors could dictate what's medically necessary instead of riding the insurance wave getting paid all the way until the appropriate treatment is approved. cool good to know insurance companies own the doctors.

They received 1 star because the PT was good, nothing else. Had knee surgery on a FRI (25 staples). On Sat had bleeding problems, they are closed so called their emergency number.took 2 calls and about an hour to get someone to call be back. I don't think the on Doc on-call was associated with Coastal. I was told to change the bandage for my partner.

As if I had a 15 bandage handy, not to mention I was expected to know how to properly change a surgical bandage. Not something I want to learn on Youtube. Our GP did have Saturday hours so went there and they sent us to the ER. Add $8,500 ER bill to the already nearly $42,000 Coastal bill. Post surgery Coastal added another $5,000 making their total around $47,000.

To add insult to injury come MON when Coastal's office opened, our emergency over the weekend did NOT warrant a call from DR Valaday's office. They said this bleeding was normal yet they NEVER saw him! I'm wondering why I receive post bleeding instructions as part of his discharge papers, if they dismiss the instructions. His bleeding was NOT Normal.

Our GP instructed him to put no weight on the knee and go to the ER, I suppose Vallady thinks our GP is not a qualified Doctor. We later fired DR Valladay because it was know that the patient was taking pain killers for chronic pain and needed that RX to continue through PT at which time he was going to inpatient detox. Valaday's office did NOT work with the patient's pain management DOC instead he took over all pain meds. Valaday's office made an error on the pain medication RX DOUBLING the pain killer from 10-20 (which thankfully the pharmacy caught the error) Trying to get Coastal to correct the error was a nightmare.were told no one was available to correct the issue and they refused to give a time frame, would it be days?

We already established they do NOT work on weekends. When they did respond, rather than cutting the RX dosage back to the expected dosage, they cut the expected dosage in half (to 5) thus making it impossible for the patient to continue his PT. We had to stop PT and check into rehab early, not ideal. Folks we are talking about maybe 8 days that he needed to finish his PT and the plan had been discussed prior to surgery.

At that point in time we fired Valaday and canceled all future appointments with Coastal. I don't think Valladay's office even understood the RX problem because they DIDN'T TAKRE THE TIME TO LISTEN! My advise IF you use Coastal do NOT have surgery on a FRIDAY as you will get NO SUPPORT until MONDAY, that is, providing they can find the time.

Phone calls are not promptly returned. Once your surgery is done and they have their Money they SIMPLY DON'T CARE. Our attempts to contact and speak with DR Valladay were blocked, he was way too important to be involved with out post surgery problems. The patient has been through 11 knee surgeries in his life time. NEVER has he ever had surgery when the DOC didn't call the next day to check how he was doing, let alone not bothering to all after you call regarding an emergency.

They did have someone call once but the call was made in such a way that the call went directly to voicemail because again THEY DON'T CARE and don't want to be bothered with how you are actually doing.

After spending thousands of dollars without ever getting to see Dr. Constant 8 days before I was finally going to see Dr. Constant his office manager called to let me know that he didn't want to have me as his patient. How can you just leave a patient with an L4 and L5 damaged disc with no doctor after months of working towards a protocol?

Don't go to this practice-- especially if you are over 60. This group prides themselves in conservative approaches but really they are just milking the geriatric population in Sarasota! They are completely insensitive to older people. They prescribe ineffective pain interventions and you can never actually speak to someone after leaving the office.

My mother has been going to this practice for over 3 years and after a fall no one from this practice would even call, visit or consult with an ER physician. I recently went with her to a visit to Coastal Orthopedics and suddenly after I arrived with a notepad, they seemed interested in her concerns. They are also very slow with verifying benefits- we saw them 5 days ok and they have not even submitted the benefits verification to insurance yet. (I called the insurance company).

Our family is so disappointed with this practice. Don't let your loved ones go to them. They are only interested in making money, not in addressing the concerns of patients who trust them with their care. They should truly be ashamed of the practice they have created.

I had a distal bicep tendon reattached by Dr. Otte in March 2020. I'm exactly one year out from surgery at this writing and I couldn't be happier. I'm 40 years old and am not experiencing any pain, loss of mobility, or decrease in strength after the surgery. I exercise regularly, train jiu jitsu multiple times a week and feel great. Couldn't be happier with the outcome. Next time I snap something I'll know where to go.

This review is for Coastal physical therapy only. Marne is my therapist & my 1st visit went really great. She was very patient with me as I can't do too much with a broken foot but she encouraged my baby steps! She answered all my questions satisfactory. She gave me "homework" to do at home to strengthen my foot!

Unfortunately I'm no stranger to ankle injuries and physical therapy, but this is my first time going to Coastal Orthopedics. Dr. O'Daly has been awesome and really wanted to get an understanding of how best to treat my injury to get me back to the things I want to do as quickly and safely as possible. The physical therapy team has been great so far.

I have been seeing (almost all) the doctor's at Coastal for at least 15+ years. I've had to undergo approx 7 spine fusions. They have never fouled up any of my surgeries. I've also had shoulder, foot and hand procedures by various of their doctors according to their specialty and my need. I love, love, love them. Can't recommend them enough.

If you go anywhere else you may be as sorry as I was w/the first fusion by a different doctor/practice. I started w/a different doctor/practice who totally messed up my first back surgery (left me w/right leg neuropathy (sp?) and has been w/me since 1995, oh how I've suffered with his work. Do yourself the best favor of your life, go to Coastal. All of their doctors are A#1.

I would not recommend Coastal Orthopedics. I had an outpatient knee surgery so in and out. I ended up with an infection that was not caught. I was just giving more pain meds to deal with pain and even told that I needed to just do my exercises. Even had me buy a brace for my knee. Went for a second opinion finally after 7 months of this and my new doctor discovered that it was an infection.

Now I have to have a surgery to remove the infected knee hardware, be on antibiotics for 8 weeks everyday through a PICC line in my arm and finally another surgery after infection is gone to put a new knee in. The signs were there from the beginning that there was an infection they were just ignored. I know I would want to know this before picking my doctor facility so felt the need to write the review.

Surgery by Dr Ott for ORIF of shoulder. Outstanding experience. Dr is professional, caring and took time to discuss my treatment plan and progress. His bedside manner is amazing. Easy going and made me feel comfortable. Staff is efficient and caring. Not only do I recommend this practice, I recommend Dr Ott.

Appointments are binding contracts for patients; merely vague suggestions for the practice. The following all happened in a year and 11 days. The issue I have is with appointments and the alarming frequency that Coastal cancels them and offers new appointments. The physicians and support staff have all been professional. My initial appointment was kept as scheduled.

The Neck and spine specialist diagnosed me and discussed treatment. He referred me to PT for a couple of months and an appt was made for after the PT was completed. About a week maybe more I got call that the MD was "called into emergency surgery" and would need to reschedule. Personal note: IMO it is impossible to know 7 days before that you will be "called into emergency surgery next week" unless you're a psychic.

The earliest he could see me was in three weeks. About 7-8 days before this rescheduled appointment I received another call to rescheduled, same lame excuse, same additional time delay. I have been in severe agony with sciatica I had an appt for a spinal injection for 7-25. Oh yeah, they called to reschedule that too. At least they had the decency not to lie to my face about a surgical emergency which was foreseen in a prophetic vision. These are symptoms of a business that's either poorly managed or just doesn't give a d*^n.

The therapist is excellent. Not the issue. My wife saw the orthopedist twice in February. Today we received the very first bill. It's June 3. No problem. The amount was around 60 bucks. Again no problem. The issue was it was 60-90 days overdue! Wait! What?. We were pissed. Called to find out why. They side stepped it. Said it was a computer generated issue, but after pressing the gentleman.

He said I would get a letter on june 22 that it would go to collection if not paid in 15 days. So basically july 7 it's in collections. 34 days after receipt of bill. I have every intention of paying but this is not right. I asked the guy if I could talk to someone about the policy and he said he was in the phillapines. He has no idea. This is not right. I pay on time. It should not say I am behind 60 days on the re riot of the very first bill. So pissed

After calling to get an appointment and asking about insurance I waited a month for the appointment, showed up and was told they didn't accept my insurance and it would be self pay to see the doctor. I called my insurance and they had to call coastal and get it straightened out. I then called for another appointment and they said it would be another 3 weeks.

I asked if it could be any sooner and they said they would call me back.they never did. I called again and cancelled and asked to speak to someone in charge and they transferred me to a non working number. Stay far far away!

THE STAFF AT COASTAL WAS AMAZING, INTAKE, NURSES AND ESPECIALLY MARIA AT PHYSICAL THERAPY! NOW THE REASON FOR 1 STAR! Unfortunately i drew the short straw and was seen by Dr. Kumar! I've read the reviews of Dr. Lamar and Dr. Constant, wish I would have seen either one! From the reviews they seem to be be more down to earth and genuinely care about their patients.

Not that the outcome for me would have been different regarding my diagnosis. Being new to the area, I was told Coastal O was the place to go, however was not warned of the lack of interest and professionalism of Dr. Kumar. Actually, I will refer to him as Kumar in the future, legitimate doctors take an oath, perhaps Kumar has amnesia and forgot he did? Anyway, if you need Physical Therapy, I would highly recommend Coastal, if you need to see a real Orthopedic Doc see Dr. Lamar or Dr. Constant!

I agree, this is the worst orthopedic I have ever visited. The wait was 7 weeks to be seen by a doctor. After my visit, the staff dropped the ball and did not work with me at all to schedule my diagnostic. Now it is 9 weeks without treatment. I called another orthopedic practice in Sarasota that was referred to me. I got an appointment within 10 days. Rude, uncaring staff that never called me about a special test I needed run for my condition.

The manager called in response to my feedback about this and made snide remarks on the phone. If you have any condition that is 'outside the box' you are on your own. They like to take your money and give nothing in return. A cattle place. Industrial medicine at its worst.

The doctors there are wonderful; however, I received a bill for over $3,000 for a shot for my knee. I have both Medicare and United Health Care, Plan F, and have NEVER paid anything for shots in either of my knees previously. I am having problems with my right knee and called to make an appointment with Rob, which usually takes 6 - 8 weeks, even if your are in pain.

They would not let me make an appointment until I pay the $3,000+. I talked to billing department and they told me I am going to have to straighten this out with Medicare before I can make an appointment. I asked if they could check the code and she said that the doctor gave them the code so they wouldn't check it. I called Medicare and they said I do NOT owe $3,000 plus.

The reason the claim was denied was because the doctor's office did not send all required paperwork. I tried to call the doctor's office back at 4:50 and I didn't even get put on hold. It just kept cutting me off. ML
