What really prompted me to leave this review was my recent experience with refilling my medication. My medication was recently changed, yet no refills were provided. After my pharmacy was unable to reach out to the doctor days before I was set to run out, I reached out to a multitude of people at the Mazzoni for help. No one answered my online medication requests, my calls, or voicemails.
As someone with social anxiety who does not leave the house. I had to physically walk to both Mazzoni locations only to be turned away. No one has returned my calls or voicemails. If you are going to switch a patient's medications up and they are going to run out before the next scheduled visit. it's called medication management. I did my part, y'all need to do better.
Shout out to my new therapist who ended up handling the situation with care. As a queer person new to Philly, the reviews on this place worried me. Just be careful as some people have clearly gotten comfortable in their respective posts. Do yourself a favor, advocate for yourself!

I have been going to mazzoni center for a number of years now. In that time I have had 1 doc I saw more then a couple times. Other then that's I am tossed to people I guess who happen to be standing there. Phone calls take forever sometimes. The center was closed on Thursday, was that on the phone message? No. I heard several times how much you appreciate me.
But nothing about being closed that day Poor poor service. I have a long list of issues. But instead of trying to resolve them thru mazzoni. Which I have tried, never got a call back. I have moved on to a better provider. If you are considering mazzoni. Consider some place else

Please for the love of god, skip over Mazzoni. Our healthcare system is trash, I know, but I would rather do the full runaround in the cishet world than ever deal with the negligent and careless service I received here. I was a Medicaid patient almost 7 years ago I think and when my Medicaid ran out, I stopped being a patient because i couldn't afford it, hence the Medicaid in the first place.
At the end of LAST YEAR (2021), I received a bill from a collections agency saying that Mazzoni had filed a claim that I owed them. In 2020. Close to a literal decade after being a patient. I live in Jersey now and when I had my first appointment with my new primary care doctor, I got an STI screening. Upon receiving my results, both my doctor and myself were confused by a positive test.
After some research, conversations, and more doctors appointments, I found out that Mazzoni gave me an "incomplete" round of treatment for a particular STI, according to the employee at the department of health who called me to go over my options. The stigma behind STIs is already heavy enough without an establishment like Mazzoni making literally everything worse by taking shortcuts, and Philadelphia's queer community suffers for it.

Very inconsistent. Great therapists and friendly doctors, horrible staff with billing errors that they are unwilling to fix, as well as ignoring portal communication and calls from my pharmacist. I am still dealing with an error they made 2 years ago and they ignore my phone calls and messages through the portal, and when they do respond, it's often with a "what did you want?" attitude.

Awful. Just awful. While I like my doctor, everyone else here is worthless. They will force you to come in for a visit just to refill your prescriptions. They probably just want your copay. Do yourself a favor and go to a real medical provider. I've absolutely hit the limit of my patience with them.

Never refills my medication on time. I have been on and off hormones 3 times this point because of this, and was told about refills that were not made or were for completely different medication unrelated to hormones. The people are nice, but I cant keep doing this on and off hormones thing, it's damaging me emotionally.

I would NEVER recommend this sad excuse for a practice to anyone. They don't care about their patients. They don't return phone calls, even if they're urgent. They don't care. It would take over a week before I'd ever hear anything. Even if it's medication related, they will not get back to you in time. I'm so fed up with this place and am immediately going somewhere else.

This is the most disorganized medical care ever. There seems to be a pass the buck attitude, I had labs drawn that they forgot to refrigerate so they were useless, it is almost impossible to get through them and the online portal sucks. There are nice people their but it is always chaotic and staff changes constantly. With doctors.

Went to this place a couple yrs ago so I'm not sure if staff is the same but I must say my experience here was wonderful. all the staff was kind and helpful and my doctor was AMAZING & went above & beyond for me. He came all the way back to the center after my appt almost missing his flight to reissue a medicine I had thrown up & gave me his personal phone number just in case I had any complications again, also they ordered free pizza for everyone in the waiting room during my visit! Care was affordable & prompt as well. I'd definitely go back /recommend to friends

If you'd asked me last year, this would have been 4 or 5 stars. In the last three months, Mazzoni has become one of the worst providers. The only reason why they got 2 was because that staff that remains there is caring and professional. Those who remain. They seem to have lost many of their doctors and staff. The place is empty most of the time.
It takes 5 months to see my new doctor and two weeks to do a STI test! Two weeks? Whoever is running this place should be fired and blacklisted from running a similar place in the future. I'm resigned to getting my primary care at an Urgent Clinic until I find a new provider.

This place is awful with regard to getting appointments, even if you have a serious health condition. The original provider I had was decent because he knew me for years and would respond to my messages. When he left they stuck me with a provider who insists that she have a receptionist in the room during her visits with you, ostensibly because she has hearing difficulty, yet during the three visits I had with her she never demonstrated any difficulty with hearing whatsoever.
So much for dignity, privacy, and adherence to HIPPA regulations. Providers leave constantly and there is little regard for continuity of care or appropriate follow up, expect to wait three months for your next provider. Even getting the appropriate blood work you need to monitor a health condition is extremely difficult; medication is often prescribed without the follow up blood work needed to see if it's working.
You literally just have to get referrals to specialists if you want your health care taken seriously, and if you have more than one health condition, get referrals to a specialist who handles each one. If you value your health, don't rely on this place to take care of you.

I had to go there to get some work done, and I was absolutely Blown away at the friendliness, respect and high quality of customer service. I wanted to especially congratulate them on their recent hire Nurse Sasha. She was very respectful and courteous and has a great bedside manner. She is rising star!

Shout out to Becky Altman! She is the best PCP I've ever had. This place rocks: it's everything you could want in a PCP. My NP takes a lot of time to hear what's going on with me personally as well as lets me ask a ton of questions. Because of her care, she has figured out lurking issues and also collaboratively developed some really effective treatment plans with me. Also, Becky is knowledgeable about insurance (surprisingly rare for PCPs), which has helped my wallet a lot.
The administrative staff and infrastructure are also really good and thoughtful. Mazzoni's online platform is great, and the team is highly responsive. I also love the way you get called into your check-up room once you're there. The buzzing disc system (like what restaurants use) helps protect people's privacy. Finally, the clinic is such an inclusive environment.
I appreciate that they have their values hung on the wall of the center. The only things I wish Mazzoni had were more appointments (maybe on the weekend?) available and an answering service so you could call and make appointments outside of when staff are taking calls at the clinic. In short, everything about this place is caring and helpful. My PCP has gone above and beyond. P.S. they were great in helping me navigate insurance, too!

Let me preface this by saying that I love the Mazzoni center and love my PCP. That being said, since this move, the care has been ridiculously sub-par. I had an appointment scheduled for this Friday and it was conveniently cancelled and reschedule for AUGUST 11th! This comes on the heels of my fiance, who sees the same PCP, not being able to get an appointment for an urgent matter until August 28th!
This is absolutely uncalled for -- if our PCP is booked that far, then stop booking her! Existing patients need to be able to see their PCP in a more timely matter. This is so absurd. Let's not mention the fact that I was hung up on while RESCHEDULING my appointment and that my fiance also faced rude and incompetent front-desk staff. If this continues, I'll consider seeing treatment elsewhere.

I feel so comfortable with the Mazzoni Center. I, and many others, am incredibly lucky and grateful that these services exist. Going through all sorts of life challenges can be painful and frightening when you know you're assumed to be a certain way. Here, there are no assumptions. They know who they're working with, and they are sensitive without the need to pry for information.
If you're in need of gynecology and you're not a woman, for example, they know exactly how to handle your needs while prioritizing respect for your identity. My biggest concern is the physical space in which the Mazzoni Center clinic exists. I feel sort of exposed in the waiting room. I hope that they someday have the funds to upgrade to a larger, more private space.
If you visit during youth drop-in hours rather than making an appointment, you will probably wait a very long time to see someone. This is completely understandable, in my opinion. They'll advise you regarding what time you should show up if you call. Occasionally, I've noticed lapses in communication; I have been kept waiting in the exam room before with no one around and no idea how much longer I would have to wait.
This is not a common issue, and I find that, overall, I receive more attentive service here than at any other clinic I've visited. Be aware that the doctor you want to speak with may not always be available over the phone. Don't be afraid to leave messages with reception. You'll always receive quick assistance.

See FB group "Harmed By Mazzoni Center" if you've been mistreated by this Clinic. My partner and I experienced mistreatment, HIPAA violations, libel/slander, discrimination, many other problems, and were eventually kicked out/refused treatment due to mistakes made by their own staff that made us a potential liability to them.

The best most friendly most wonderful health center going. Very friendly.lgbt health center. I have been coming for over 15 years things just constantly improve as does the doctors and nurse practitioners. Very loving and caring environment.very professional.a little difficult to get in at times, conveniently, but they do manage to always try to get you in. I always try to remember they are serving a vibrant huge community. And doing a great job at it. So I need to be patient.in trying to get an appointment.

I love Mazzoni! I've been going here for about a year after not being super happy with Jefferson Internal Medicine. Mazzoni picked up on some health problems that other doctors missed. I typically see Max, and I have never been as happy with a healthcare provider as I am with him. I feel comfortable talking to him and he is a great listener. My only con is that they don't have weekend hours and it can be hard to get a convenient appointment time. That said, they do squeeze people in as best as they can for sick visits.

Pros: I've been a patient her for years. When I first found them, I was without insurance but they still provided excellent care. Additionally, the staff was not judgemental and very friendly. They put me at ease. I was with Dr. Borgia, who I adored until she left to go to another practice. : Cons: No weekend hours

So I've been going to mazzoni for several years. First, the positives. The medical staff is phenomenal. They are clearly the heart of the operation, and do everything to make you feel comfortable and welcome. This is a huge win, especially when they're targeting lgbtq folks like myself. Downside: billing and support staff. It's gone up and down over the years, but never have I consistently been billed correctly.
The check out staff often asks for the wrong copay for the service (ie any copay for a free wellness visit, no copay for labs, etc). Currently, we're trying to get mazzoni and jefferson to sort out all the billing from my wife's recent visit, all because they're submitting incorrect diagnosis or reason codes. And it's not like we have a small no name insurance plan that they're not familiar with. We're having a rough time even getting staff to return our messages through the portal about the bills and still pending test results that we're told would take 3 hours to be sent over.
So overall, medical staff is great, and I go because they take a holistic approach to health. But billing and support staff is inconsistent at best, incompetent at worst. I'm lucky enough to work in insurance and be quite savvy, but this could be a deal breaker for a lot of folks who don't know their plans, and get stuck paying for services that are covered.
So if they fully want to have that patient centered medical home type feel, they need to get their books in order and get a handle on billing, office staff (wait room can be a nightmare, no clear sign in sheet, office staff hidden from view so they don't even see you come in), and all the other day to day persons

Subsequent visits have been quick (blood testing and family planning consultations; no more than a few minutes of waiting in either waiting or exam room for either) and pleasant. Dr. Borgia was even willing to wait for my fiance since he was running late to our fertility appointment as he had required personal matters to attend to. My only quip is maybe the administrative side is a little understaffed. I was on hold with a recording telling me I had 7 callers ahead of me when I was calling to ask a question. Still grateful for discovering them.

I have to say that I found this place deplorable.from the way the staff treats you to the way they never call you back to the fact that you can't even get a simple prescription filled. I am glad I left this place for good. I switched to Penn and the care there is much better. Furthermore if you sincerely value your health don't go here - period. I received poor medical care and a wrong diagnosis and went to another doctor and received the correct diagnosis and treatment. Avoid.

Hmmm - it's hard to review a doctor's office. It's not like we can compare the taste of minted tongue depressors or the warmth of the doc's exam fingers. Well, we could, let's try. Things I love: Doctors and nursing staff are great. Nurses drawing blood are great. Counseling staff is great. Lots of greatness. Rooms are comfy and magazine selections does not suck. noise generators in each room to keep conversations quiet are also great. Things I do not love: I show up early and still am taken back late. Annoying.
No clear check in area when you walk in, windows at counter are closed so you wander around looking lost if you don't knock to get someone's attention. Online portal service SUCKS. I have NEVER received a response to an appointment request generated here or a question asked here. It's useless and I ignore it. In short, the staff and care levels are really exceptional. The implementation and business portion, as with many doctor's offices, leaves a lot to be desired.
