Dr. David Grischkan, a hernia doctor and the medical director of the Hernia Center of Ohio, is a native of Canada. He trained at McGill University in Montreal and acquired extensive training in the Shouldice hernia technique. He was invited to the Cleveland Clinic in 1976 and left in 1979 to embark upon a teaching career and to help patients as a hernia doctor in his private surgical practice. In 1984, he founded the Hernia Center of Ohio as a center of excellence for hernias, devoting full-time to this specialty.
Over the last 10 years insurance companies have reduced their payments levels in many cases to less than 25% of what used to be standard payment while quadrupling premiums. Incisional hernias result from the breakdown of a previous surgical incision, generally caused by tension in the closure of the incision. The result is an unsightly bulge, which, if left alone, can lead to numerous complications, including bowel obstruction and strangulation. These hernias can reach massive proportions over time and consequently should be repaired when they are first diagnosed.

I am now in the process of researching a solution to my new problem with a groin hernia. Dr G. Took the time out of his practice to interview me, offer recommendations and give me a self pay price. No ups, no extras. If I go next month, he needs 10-14 day notice. I have to come from Arizona to Cleveland, Ohio. I feel confident and assured after this call.
He is a specialist in the Canadian Shouldice method of repair. No mesh, ever. The problem rate is estimated at less than 1 pct Shouldice Method and mesh problems run as high as 15 pct depending on why it went wrong. Simple rejection would be a problem. Multiple reasons are possible. Dr G has done over 20,000 repairs. His website is worth taking the time to read.
I still have to consult with the VA Medical system in Tucson before a decision can be made. But I m working on this, daily. Another point Famous bodybuilding Stars seek him out to repair their hernias. One came direct from Egypt.

Dr. Grischkan is from another era, in a good way. When I called the number for the office, he answered. He talked me through everything extremely thoroughly, made some jokes that were objectively bad but that I quite appreciated under the circumstances, and most importantly, provided the best hernia surgery available in this country as far as I can tell, without putting plastic in my body.
And at about half the price I was quoted by the mesh-slinging medical "complex" just down the street. I'm so grateful that I found him. I had to fly in and get a hotel to get this done, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I just hope he stays around long enough for my next hernia.

If you need hernia mesh removed, this is the best surgeon in the country! Many doctors say that you cannot have hernia mesh removed successfully, but that is not true. Dr. Grischkan removed defective hernia mesh on 2 hernias that gave me pain for 12 years. The mesh removal surgery was a complete success! All of the pain that I was experiencing for 12 years is now gone! Words are not enough to express how truly thankful I am. I am blessed to have found such a hernia expert.
