I don't know any young women who have had a good experience at this emergency room. I have never been taken seriously, and on one occasion sent home while having seizures because they "aren't a big deal" (direct quote from the doctor). My sister recently went in for a severe allergic reaction to shellfish and the same doctor refused to give her an epipen.
Most recently, a pregnant friend saw the SAME doctor for severe pain and premature contractions, and was told that "pregnancy is painful" and sent home with no help after informing him that she does not plan to deliver at this hospital. He replied by asking her why she came to this hospital, knowing that she was transported there by ambulance. Dr. Hielpern needs to face consequences for his actions before someone dies due to his negligence.

Good experience. staff are mostly local, positive, and helpful. Dr Hammond in ER did a great job of taking time for full workup and going out of his way to communicate with me to help coordinate the care of a patient. You will never find everything and every test or service in a small or medium sized hospital, but there are some very talented people here and overall good attitudes in my experience.

Dr Hammond in the ER basically mocked me for going there. I had IBS and was having the worst abdominal pain that day when I went in. After hearing it was "just IBS" he mocked me for being there, he said he could do nothing to help, and I should just go home, take a shower and relax. I'd avoid this doctor AT ALL COSTS. By the way I was billed $150 simply for vitals taken.

The emergency room personnel are RUDE, Incompetent, unprofessional. Go to Santa Fe or Espanola! Dr Hammond, Chris Hammond, hung up on me 2 times after basically over dosing an 8 month old baby. The receptionist is RUDE and there needs to be al little more oversight. Malpractice is the norm as is rudeness. No wonder no one goes to the hospital in Los Alamos.

I went to Los Alamos medical center, earlier this week. I've had a problem for 5 years & after going to about 14 different doctors in Albuquerque & not receiving the care I needed, I had to go to los Alamos. The doctor in dermatology gave me a diagnosis & cleared up problem in a matter of 3 days. I will forever be grateful.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. I don't even want to start relating my first - and hopefully last! - experience here. Unless you're in an ambulance, go ANYWHERE else! Edit. Giving another star because, as usual, the actual medical professionals were just fine. it's the office/support personnel that's the real problem. Just miserable.

If I could give this medical center zero stars I would. They do everything in their power to keep their patients sick. I've been repeatedly hung up on and denied medical help. Surgical referrals have been rejected repeatedly and I have waited days for a simple call back. This is no place to go if you require ACTUAL medical help.

It was a horrible experience all around. I used to go here for Dr. Power, who was great, but she left. Do NOT go here for urgent care. They will charge you like you're in the ER and your bill will literally be 10 times what it would be at Trinity Urgent Care for the same thing. Also, I got a really bad nurse practitioner once when I went to their urgent care.
I had been around my sister who had pneumonia, and I caught whatever she had. Same symptoms a couple weeks later. Instead of giving me something to help (like my sister got from her doctor), the NP told me it was "allergies" (I don't have allergies here in January, only in the spring) and basically told me to get lost. Ridiculous. Will never, ever come back.

Super disorganized. They have been confused each time I have checked in, having trouble understanding or verifying that I had an appointment. This time, they thought I had been there the previous month, when I hadn't been there for over a year. They lost my order for routine screenings from my general practioner and couldn't find his information despite me giving it to them several times and also giving them a URL to their web site.

About a year ago I was admitted to the ER here after suffering my first seizure the doctor on staff never saw me and despite this misdiagnosed my seizure as a panic attack. I then struggled for almost the entire following year to get a proper diagnosis of what was really going. Ironically this whole experience has given me anxiety problems. I was admitted to this ER again this year where yet again my SVT and heart arrhythmia were misdiagnosed as just another panic attack after being admitted again a very good doctor who works in this ER found the arrhythmia and transferred me to Albuquerque to see an inpatient cardiologist.
There are many rude nurses. There are also alot of really good nurses. One of the times I was in for seizures I pressed the nurse call button during what seemed like a pretty docile time with not alot going on cause I didn't feel right and it took them a full 5 minutes to get to me. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of good staff here but going here for something life threatening is like playing russian roulette.
