Dr. Nelson earned a degree in engineering prior to attending the University of Mississippi Medical Center. After completing a residency in ophthalmology at Wake Forest Eye Center in Winston-Salem, NC, he completed his fellowship training in cataract and lens implant surgery under Dr. Lynn McMahan. Dr. Nelson is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

The cornea both protects your eye and helps refract, or focus, light onto the back of your eye for clear vision. I've seen a few Eye Doctors since the onset of diabetes about 3 years ago and I must say I am glad I found Southern Eye Care. The Doctors and other staff are friendly and helpful and do not mind explaining to a nervous and sometimes bewildered person what is going on, why it is happening, and what will be done about it. I truly got the impression that they were trying to help, not just making a paycheck and I can't stress this enough: They were happy to take the time to explain what was happening at any given time. :

Dr. Griffith is AMAZING! I was nervous when I walked through the door for my consultation, but the staff was very welcoming and comforting. After meeting with Dr. Griffith I knew that I was in great hands. My experience was sent over the top when Dr. Griffith offered to pray with me prior to beginning my LASIK procedure, this put me at ease. Thanks for the wonderful work!
