In 1903, Drake University built a medical school at 406 Center Street in Des Moines. The building was utilized for nine years, and then it stood empty until 1915. Two physicians and a private investor purchased the building and established a miners' hospital. After extensive remodeling, the facility was incorporated under the laws of Iowa in 1916 as the Miners' and Industrial Workers' Hospital.

Our primary doctor is awesome, my orthopedic doctor is awesome, the couple times I've been to the urgent care and ER have been ok. BUT it ends there. My boyfriend sees a mental health and neurologist and those departments are HORRIBLE! The mental health department does not call back when a patient calls because a medication is not working and the manager does not call back when leaving messages.

Same with the neurologist. He has not slept a full night in 2 months and has an on going migraine. Neither department returns his calls. I have referred him to my neurologist cause they call back within an hour or so and I'm about to refer him to a new med dr too! This is ridiculous and should not be happening.

I've frequented a lot of urgent cares lately and I can confidently say that broadlawns is the best I've been to. I've been going there lately because we currently don't have insurance and it's the cheapest ppl lace near me but even when we do have insurance I'm going to keep going here. I've been there twice and both times I was seen immediately (after checking in of course). wait times are phenomenal compared to the usual 2-3 hours I'm used to waiting in other urgent cares. staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. both diagnosis they gave me were right (which is also somewhat rare at other urgent cares) and they actually listened to any concerns I had instead of immediately brushing me off. I've been very upset at the healthcare system lately but broadlawns gives me hope

Patient Advocate is rude and hasn't acknowledged documentation or responded back to us. My wife received poor care at Broadlawns Dental Clinic and there is no excuse for it. Broadlawns Dental will not send a Release of Medical Records form to our email. They said she would have to come in person and sign forms. WHY, so they can intimidate her again and shred papers in front of her again. 04/01/2022 Rating: -10 We requested in writing from Broadlawns Dental to reimburse my wife for errors made by Dr. Harvey. Crown that was made at this clinic for my wife has never stayed on.

What we requested for reimbursement was money we were out because of this Dental Clinics errors. They're claiming that they followed the plan of care. After we complained to the cliinc about the errors made, the Office Manager Ashley was very rude to my wife and refused to give the doctors notes my wife requested. Instead she gave my wife a paper with her prior appointments.

After this happened my wife was very uncomfortable to go back to this clinic. Broadlawns is calling the reimbursement, compensation. It's not compensation! All we asked for was the out of pocket costs we had to pay, no more. Our insurance will not cover my wife's crown that she needs until December 2022 because of repetitive claims for the same crown they made incorrectly.

My wife's current Dentist verified the crowns base should have been made more square than round. The amount we asked to be reimbursed for was only $971.64. This is nothing compared to all the problems my wife was put through for they're negligence and how rudely she was treated after questioning what they were doing. Ashley in the office shredded papers right in front of my wife in the clinic when she made request for doctors notes.

The records that the Dental insurance has and the documents we have prove that this clinic was negligent. These same records were sent to Broadlawns. They can't admit they were wrong and were not going to stop fighting because they are wrong and we will keep fighting for the good of anyone that goes to this clinic. So much for putting the PATIENT FIRST!

They're plan of care were errors, one after another. The repetitive claims were due to Broadlawns and now my wife has no insurance to cover Broadlawns ERRORS. The apology from Broadlawns rings HALLOW! We contacted Medical Records and Dental Clinic at Broadlawns requesting medical records. Medical Records said we would have to go to Dental Clinic for dental records. Dental Clinic said my wife would have to come into clinic and sign for records in person. WHY?

This can be done using email, fax or USPS. My wife is FEARFUL TO come into that clinic due to the BAD BEHAVIOR of their office manager. THEY INTIMIDATED her and now their ignoring how she was TREATED AND all THE MEDIACAL ERRORS they made with her teeth! John Jensen

The ER here was amazing. The admissions people were friendly, fast and efficient, the nursing staff was very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and supportive. Services were timely and the Doctor on call was all the above. I have been to Mercy and that name says it all, horrible place to go to in an emergency. This hospital was a great example of healthcare services that people need.

My only issue is with the public safety car parking under awning directly in front of the emergency room doors. Making it impossible to utilize the awning when dropping off or picking up and inclement weather. Also parking along the fire lane so when you do pick up or drop off your in the outside Lane and just makes it further to walk also having to walk around their vehicle as an obstacle.

I just find it odd that they don't have their own parking space or that they wouldn't park elsewhere. Unless I'm missing something it seems to be an issue of laziness on their staff behalf I don't know I could be wrong

Everyone that I talked to was rude and all seemed like they didn't want to be there. This place did not feel very professional and people kept talking to me like I was stupid. Sat in the waiting room for an hour, just to go to the back room and continue to sit there for another 30 minutes, while the doctor was doing I don't even know what. I would not recommend coming here. Just my personal opinion.

I can't say enough about what a positive experience we had at the ER here. They treated my brother like an actual person instead of just trying to get rid of him because he didn't have insurance like Mercy did. The staff was friendly, helpful, and quick. The doctor on duty did a wonderful job explaining things to us.

Sands unit is the worst mental health I have ever seen. They sadate the patients for days, so they don't bother you. Over medicate and the doctors don't spend more the 10 minutes with you. Total neglect and disregard for patients I am apauld I spent 21 days there and they force you to take anti phycodic medication for NO reason. The mental health Sands unit needs to be shut down permanently and immediately.

They violated your rights on a daily basis and disregard anything you tell them. They don't let you see a case worker or patient advocate until you are about to get discharged. I am disgusted. Shame on you Broadlawns.

Decided to bring my son to BMC main to the urgent care clinic. Right from checking in with Jamie to seeing Marisela (nurse) to seeing the doctor was excellent and exceptional care. I truly cannot express my appreciation. The overwhelming kindness and care that my son received here was truly above and beyond.

Very disappointed. I'm new to the Des Moines area and I was looking for a new gynecologist. I called Broadlawns on July 7th and made an appointment for July 22nd. I arrived at about 1:30 just to be told they had all of my information (name, address, birthday(, but no appointment. Mind you, I'd never been here before. So how else would they have my information aside from when I called to make the appointment?

I requested time off for work from this and it's not easy to see a doctor with my work schedule. A total waste of my time, and I was ultimately exposed to a bunch of sick people during a pandemic for absolutely no reason. I would give zero stars if I could.

Over the years I have not heard a lot of good things about Broadlawns. When my wonderful doctor, Bryan Folkers, said he was going there I could not believe it! Was I ever wrong! They are doing a lot of building. It is clean, new, and very nice. The professionals working there are friendly and helpful. It is easy to get to wherever you are going. like Lutheran. Not a huge maze like Mercy and Methodist. I would highly recommend this hospital.

This place has made major changes. The dental clinic is brand new and state-of-the-art. Moreover, Dr. Haven't is an incredible dentist. When we took our 2 year old daughter to the emergency room, the staff was impressive. They are so kind. They even have both our girls little stuffed bears. So many top notch doctors are going moving to practice here. And the new renovations look amazing.

Brought my cousin here for a dental appointment and at first glance the exterior and interior are very nice and new. You can tell they have put a lot of work into improving the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and experienced. For those on a budget I would definitely recommend this facility for Dental.

What ever you do, be careful of Dr. Timothy Rankin. Left my sister for almost 2 weeks with no surgery to set a seriously broken leg. I guess his schedule was so busy? In talking to her I had a very bad gut feeling and after 11 days of them doing nothing I begged her to go to another hospital after she fell again. By now the leg is more swollen. Come to find out she developed a blood clot in the leg which I predicted and was my urgency for her to go to a more qualified Doctor.

Apparently the new Doctors thought it was an emergency because surgery was performed next day after overnight stay, tests and getting some of the swelling down. She is doing better now and hopefully going home today. Not out of the woods yet with the blood clot so I hope Dr. Timothy Rankin has his malpractice insurance up to date BECAUSE if anything happens to her from this blood clot I'm coming after you with a lawsuit! SHAME on you for your treatment or lack there of for her. What is the matter with you? What is the Hippocratic oath. DO NO HARM! Forced to leave one star because I can't leave zero according to yelp!

My husband and I chose to start going to Broadlawns for medical care several years ago, because we felt that we got better care there than at Mercy or Methodist. For a while it was wonderful. Then, last November, my husband went to the emergency room, not feeling well. Although, they did not have a lot of traffic, they held us in the emergency room for eight hours even though they had told us that he seemed okay and he had been feeling good for hours.

Even one of the nurses said she didn't understand why. We recently had to go to the emergency room again for my husband who was dizzy and vomiting. We were held in that emergency room for eleven and a half hours! All they did was take blood and do a cat scan that didn't take that long. Every time the nurse, named Kyle, came in, he would say that he would be back in a half hour and he wouldn't come back for an hour and a half and otherwise there was no communication.

The doctor stopped in twice and said little. When they were finally ready to release my husband, the same nurse said he would be right back to take out the IV. He came back after another hour, but only after we complained twice. I feel like they were holding us there to get more insurance both times. Every time I left the room, all I saw was employees sitting around talking. Nobody seemed to have any work to do. I'm angry and disappointed. I don't think I want to ever go to Broadlawns again.

No one likes going to the doctor! Or do they. I have tried to stay away from them for years! But I must admit I have had nothing but great things to say about the facilities and staff at Broadlawns Medical Center! My wife has type 1 diabetes, so I try to go to as many of her appointments as possible and the staff, nurses, and doctors here are all top notch!

We love our family doc, he answer questions and takes time with us. They also call and remind you of appointments which is nice! They also seem to generally care about the care you get, and also the emotional side of being in the doctors office! I still do not like going, but I feel way more comfortable now, knowing what I'm walking into!

When I was growing up, the things I heard about Broadlawns were always negative and made me scared to visit there. I fell into a scary health situation some years back, and as I was low income at the time and without insurance, Broadlawns was my only option. I am glad to say 5 years later, I was wrong about my perception of Broadlawns. I feel like I am always treated with care and respect, and their staff is top notch.

I feel like with other hospitals and clinics in the metro, you become an afterthought and a dollar sign. Their focus is on finding a solution to what ails you, and they are never pushy or rude. Since I started going there, I have seen them update their walk in clinic, their emergency department and pharmacy. They are fairly up to date with the services and testing they offer. There are some specialties that they haven't come to offer yet, but they always seem to be expanding and making themselves better.
