The practice of General and Forensic Psychiatry was established in 1998 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has since gained acceptance by legal professionals locally and nationwide. The practice is in large part clinical. Clinical services, including treatment and consultations, are provided for a range of psychiatric patients from adolescents to the elderly.
There are several acceptable approaches for performance of competency to stand trial evaluations including standardized methods such as Georgia Competency Test. Competency to stand trial evaluations can be ordered by the defense, the prosecution, or the courts. 896 (1975); Godinez v. Moran, 509 U.S. 389, 113 S.Ct.
These evaluations are usually requested by Insurance Companies, but can also be requested by defense attorneys. Review and summary of pertinent collateral information (medical and psychiatric records, accounts of acquaintances, co-workers, etc.). Relationship of present impairment to client's ability to work (in specific occupation and general or related fields).
These evaluations can be requested by the worker's compensation boards. In the cases when the administrative decision is appealed to the court, evaluations can be requested by the defense or plaintiff attorney. Evaluations reflect administrative practice guidelines, statutory definitions and case law in a given jurisdiction.
