Services
Because we understand the time constraints of the modern family, we have same day appointments available, and we offer convenient times to accommodate your needs. We urge you to receive Urgent Care at our office. When you receive your care here at Burnsville Family Physicians, you are provided with continuity of medical care as we have your full medical record available.
We have an automated telephone system. Our goal is to answer each incoming call, however, this is not always possible. If no one is available to take your call, they are helping another patient. In this case, you will be directed to our voice mail system. Please listen carefully to the message, as it does vary by the department you are calling.

This may be a long winded review and maybe an overly detailed review, but this is people's personal health we are talking about here so I'm taking this very seriously. First thing's first, the only reason I am putting 2 stars was because the lady at the front desk, and the awesome nurse who took my height, weight, and blood pressure, were awesome.
Some of the requests that I wanted to have checked were done so and I appreciated that. Everything else, however, was sub par and quite disappointing. One of the issues I wanted to talk about included some major physical and mental side effects I had experienced from prolonged mask use. The MD I was seeing, Kara E Pettigrew, asked me zero questions about any of these problems.
In fact she immediately brushed it off to me not wanting to wear a mask due to personal preference. She did not ask me what kind of side effects I had experienced, how many hours per day was I wearing a mask for, what type of activities I was doing when I had these side effects, what type of mask I was wearing, nothing. It felt like I was at home watching TV because she just said the same thing everybody else says, "Follow the CDC, masks are important". Okay, so I guess personal health isn't important anymore.
Let's all blindly follow the CDC and ignore everything else. The other issue I brought up was my lack of, or non existent, sex drive. I'm a 31 year old male. I eat great and workout daily. You'd think someone in that category who is having these issues would be somewhat alarming or at the very least something to talk about. Did we talk about it at all? No.
She just moved on to the next question. I took it upon myself and requested a testosterone test to be done along with the other blood work which she did approve, thankfully. So I give her credit for that. When it finally came time to remove my mask and check my throat and nasal passageways, well that took 1 second. I'm not exaggerating this, by the way.
The mask was off, she shined a light in my mouth, and the mask was back on in less than 1 second. Now, perhaps she is the most amazing doctor in the world and can check any person's throat and nose in less than a second. Maybe there was no reason to check those things and therefore she just pretended. I have no idea. But that struck me as very alarming and raised a huge red flag.
We continued on with the physical, some things were checked, some things were not. Blood was drawn for the tests, and I left. Fast forward, I received a phone call for my blood work results a few days later which only solidified my decision to write this review and to switch to a different provider/location. The phone call stated that they did not draw enough blood out of me in order to run some of the tests I had requested.
What a surprise. As I stated above some of my requests for things to have checked were granted. The nurse and front desk were awesome and did their job properly. For that I cannot and will not complain, and I feel horrible for not remembering their names so I may give them their credit. Everything else was not what I would consider quality care, at all.
I look forward to the robotic response of this review, similar to the robotic response I received from the Doctor about some of the issues I had. Goodbye and good luck. Thank you front desk and thank you Nurse.

My wife went in for a routine BioMetric Screening. My company offers a discount on premiums if done annually. I've done it for the last 10 years and have never been billed a cent for the screening. Because my Dr Office coded it correctly as a Preventive visit when ordering the lab work. At BFP, their Dr submitted it as a screening for a Disorder. My assumption is they didn't know how else to code it for Lab work so they just picked something to get it done.
Lack of education in my opinion. I'm strongly considering filing a Fraudulent complaint (Over Billing) with my company, which is the insurance company our insurance is with. My wife will not be going back here. I go to Fairview clinic, and they code it correctly. She will be going there from now on.

I was told in order to get a note for my husband's high risk health condition for work and me isolating it would require an office visit of myself. I felt taken advantage of. Multiple employees were aware of what I needed. Once I completed my visit the note I was given was vague and got returned immediately. Rathburn contacted me stating she wouldn't provide what I needed and laughed that everyone would not be working if she approved a note.
She was unprofessional and we won't be patients here moving forward. Everyone I spoke with including the doctor knew what I needed and still made me do an office visit I will now be charged for. Right away I should have been told they don't honor that note. Instead they took advantage and will now be charging me for a visit I didn't need at all. It's fraud. Beware.

I have been a patient at Burnsville Family Physicians for years - however, my last experience with Dr. Scherf was so terrible I will never return. Claire Rathburn was my primary, but when she was out on furlough due to COVID, I saw Dr. Scherf instead. The entire time I was there she was making extremely judgmental comments, and making me feel belittled and embarrassed. Was asking me questions that did not relate to why I was there for an appointment, and some were absolutely none of her business.
My family was made aware of the comments and they also will no longer be patients at BFP. Claire is great, the other staff I have had experiences with have been great, but Dr. Scherf needs to learn what's appropriate to say and what isn't. No patient should feel so uncomfortable that they are holding back tears due to being embarrassed by a provider who is supposed to care for them.

My family and I have been patients of the doctors and staff at Burnsville Family Physicians for over 20 years. We get thoughtful, responsive care each and every time we visit. They have helped us through some worrisome times and seemed to always have our backs when we needed them. I can't say enough about the good people of BFP.

If there was a "zero star" option, I'd have chosen that one. We became patients at BFP in the early '90's. Loved Dr Bershow and Dr Rhodes. As the years passed, we felt the level of care slip a bit, (along with a few other things) but had such a long-standing relationship with the clinic, that we felt it in our best interest to stay with a group who knew our family and our needs so well. This, despite several unbelievably unprofessional and/or sub-par experiences with their health care providers (inappropriate and degrading comments made by the staff on several occasions, outdated office and examination rooms, and apathetic-at-best support staff).
In 2016 my husband was hit by an impaired driver, which resulted in some injuries that required ongoing medical treatment. Unfortunately, the situation turned into an insurance battle between our automobile and health insurance agencies. We were diligent, as we had been FOR TWENTY-FIVE-PLUS YEARS to pay our copays, etc.but because of the insurance dispute, there was an outstanding balance of just over $200.00 that went into collections.
This relatively small balance (I don't even want to do the math to calculate how much we've paid to BFP over our family-of-seven's 25 years!) that wasn't even ours to pay, resulted in the clinic refusing to treat our family any longer! Bam! Just like that, in the blink of an eye, we lost our lifelong family doctor! Talk about adding insult to injury! Burnsville Family Physicians abandoned our family during a pretty crummy time, and should be ashamed of themselves.
Even if this is some pathetic example of a "rubber stamp decision" being made by an algorithm behind the closed business office doors, SOMEONE should have had the intelligence or empathy to see this as an extenuating-circumstance-situation, and made an exception. I don't like writing bad reviews. I understand the power they can hold, but I think that the public deserves to know what kind of operation they are dealing with, especially when their health is on the line.
