I am so surprised at the level of rudeness from the staff. One hand literally doesn't know that the other is doing here. My wife has been there for the past week and everyday there has been some kind of issue with her care and it all comes down to proper communication which doesn't happen here. For the duration of my wife's stay we were granted permission from the hospital staff to stay there.
However one security guard seemed to have a problem with it and threw us out once again because the employees here don't communicate! Absolutely no stars. ever! In fact I have a better idea, shut it down! Don't reopen it until your staff can get their head out of their posteriors and work as a team all on the same page.

If your looking for a place to die, this is the hospital for you. Took my husband to the er tonight. He's been throwing up nonstop & had horrible head pain which he's been crying from for over 8 hours. His oxygen was low, but they didn't seem to care & sat him back out in the lobby. We waited in the er for over two hours & eventually just walked out.
The request button does absolutely nothing. I would hit he's in pain & nauseous every 10 minutes & no one ever came. Everytime he vomited he would have to run to the bathroom because no one ever brought him a bag. We waited patiently in the waiting room until we couldn't wait anymore. The best part is a patient in the lobby had ordered Uber eats to herself in the lobby, that tells you how long their waiting times are.
They don't put the more severe patients first, it's just in order who came in. So if you have a life threatening event happening don't come here. Ochsner is a much better & professional hospital. I really hope Ochsner buys you guys out, because you've been dropping the ball for years West Jeff.

This hospital saved my life some years back. I went to Oschner Hospital & was told I was having a miscarriage & to go home to let it pass. I felt worse the next morning & was rushed to West Jefferson Hospital in an ambulance. No more than 15 minutes later, I was in an ultrasound room. Doctor came & gave me my results. My right fallopian tube had done ruptured & my stomach was full of blood. It wasn't a miscarriage. It was an ectopic pregnancy. I had emergency surgery within 30 minutes. Thank you so much WJ.

I've been here since a little after 4 still waiting for my daughter to be seen in their pediatrics "children's". Side And it's now after 9 pm. NEVER WILL I EVER COME BACK HERE! I did better going to an urgent care, now I've waisted hours. Only getting a star because it wouldn't let me post without giving them one.

I got really ill while sitting outside on my porch on the evening of August 14th. I began sweating and vomiting. My husband called 911 and an ambulance from LCMC responded, stabilized me, and asked my husband where do you want me take her. My husband thought that since we live the Westbank that it would be closer. Well when I got dumped off at infamous West Jefferson hospital, I remember laying out in the hallway.
I had just had a cardiac pacemaker placed in on August 13. Well when I'm finally in a room this dr walks in slamming the door rudely. I told him I wanted to file a complaint. The Dr in the room threatened to throw me out if I didn't just leave. So he goes onto call this other dr mind you there was another dr in the room already, And what happens next is the real sinister act of the security guard, the nurse, and the Dr.
A tall, rude doctor (if you wanna call him that) grabs me manhandling me and slams my body in a wheelchair all the while the robo cop is laughing and I'm crying because I was post op with the cardiac pacemaker and he injured it. My husband was waiting outside in parking lot because pandemic not allowing any family. So as I'm being manhandled out to parking lot, my husband is clueless to what had just transpired.
I felt traumatized and I already suffer with PTSD. My husband then took me to Ochsner hospital on Jefferson HWY. I was stabilized at Ochsner and then once admitted I called the police. THE POLICE DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO INVESTIGATE THE MATTER. THEY DIDNT CARE EITHER. HEY BUT THERES A GOD ABOVE.

While I can't speak on the ER, the clinical care team(nurses, physicians and staff) are awesome. I had a wonderful experience after my surgery. However, the door greeters are becoming ruder by the day. The young ladies gave my mom and friend a hard time while coming to visit me after having major surgery. Why do loved ones have to go through a hassle when trying to visit a family member/friend? This protocol needs to be evaluated because it's becoming an inconvenience.

Want to thank Lt. Bell and Jonothan Liberto, of the Public Safety Department at West Jefferson Medical Center. I left my valuable computer in the basket behind the wheelchair I was pushing my Aunt in and they found and returned it to me safely. They were so helpful and didn't expect anything in return. Great to know there are honest and caring people in this world.

My grandfather died here and my step-dad. Negative experiences with those for my entire family, negligence would be the word to describe what happened, some refuse to go here because they don't trust the hospital. Though there are some very nice, good nurses and very good people working here, it's not all bad. Maybe it's just managed poorly. Understaffed most likely because it seems there isn't time for attention to detail.
The hospital itself is pretty nice though, the cafeteria is really nice, great hot food selection. Parking is never a problem that's nice. Finding where your loved one is can sometimes be tricky as it seems the information is hard to obtain.

The one-start rating is for the ER. My mother has been to the ER several times in the last 2 years. There are a few good nurses, however, there are some HORRIBLE nurses that need to be removed. What makes this worse is the lack of cell phone service and ability for family to stay in the ER with loved ones. This opens the opportunity for nurses to abuse and mistreat patients.
Even if other nurses or doctors witness or hear of the mistreatment, no one is willing to address it. Going forward, I will either send my mother to a different hospital or sue when she is mistreated again. I am tired of it and there is no excuse. We have been to other floors for multiple days and everyone was so nice. **BEWARE LEAVING YOUR ELDERLY PARENTS ALONE IN THE ER!**

The actual medical staff wasprofessional. They took very good care of me however the kitchen staff showed no common courtesy at all bywalking in the room to bring a dinner tray without warning while I'm trying to use The urinal and that was very embarrassing and humiliating for me as I'm sure more so for female patients in the same situation. would not in immediately walking One time I was on the bedside toilet and someone from the kitchen walked in onI me.
I understand my privacy is not as it would be at home but I believe common sense and courtesy should still fall into play. It was very embarrassing not to mention humiliateing for me to say the least. I complained about it but it continued to happen so obviously nothing was done about it. But medically the hospital staffwas excellent. Being a patient in the hospital and having to rely on others doesn't mean every employee at the hospital needs to see you naked or in a compromising position

I went to the Emergency Room on 7/23/2021. 1)The receptionist asked everyone that entered to remove their mask and wear the hospital mask, I refused to remove my mask and asked if I could wear theirs over mine and it was allowed, but why would anyone ask you to take your protection off knowing that COVID-19 could be lurking next to you. 2)The ER restroom was out of order! WHY?
The waiting room was practically full and that was strictly patients because anyone that was accompanied had to either wait outside or leave! Fully understandable, except some of the patients claimed they were waiting over 8 hours and there wasn't a nurse in the area monitoring these ER patients, only the receptionist who was probably not qualified and the intake clerk and security. 3) I was allowed under management approval through the Receptionist to have my son who was under 18 but not under 15 to stay with me the entire time, but under the condition he must be with me at all times.
But later on when nature called I was asked to leave him in the waiting room and he could not go to the triage area for bathroom use. I refused to leave my son that far behind closed doors in a waiting area that included possible Mental Patients, and a couple acted in that manner! So the receptionist basically insulted me by stating "she would never bring her child with her to the ER!", she just insulted me, I asked her to not insult me as a mother because she was fully informed of my situation and requested the approval for the accommodation through her superior.
Then she states that "the area in the back was full of COVID-19 cases and they couldn't risk him going back there for bathroom use", hello, the entire area is a possible COVID-19 hotspot! To make this somewhat a shorter story, Security walked us to the Atrium Facilities for use and I couldn't take sitting in those chairs any longer after being there 3-4 hours, after the 2nd triage and analysis I thanked them and left!
But let me add, before getting the approval for my son to stay with me in the ER, the Receptionist stated that my son was old enough to stay outside, huh, who is she to make such statements to anyone?!

If you have a real emergency I would not advise you to go here at all me and my daughter was in a car accident and I just wanted to make sure she was ok because my shoulder and lower back started to hurt. We where left sitting in a hallway for an hour and 30 minutes! I'm not saying we where more important then other patients but what the point of have a pediatric side when the kids are going to have to wait just as long as the adults, and I was there for me and my daughter to be checked out and I requested for her to go first then I would be seen after.
I left at that point I felt like if anything was seriously wrong she would've been dead because no one even took my blood pressure or anything I literally am so upset rite now I really felt like we didn't matter to no one there walking back a forward, but someone was there to tell other waiting parents(that came after us) to keep the kids off the floor.
They are going to have someone die in the emergency room waiting to be seen one day it's sad to say but I really feel like it's going to happen they just take your name and tell you sit down!

While I understand that we are in a national crisis, my husband had a stroke yesterday while we were in Mississippi. I asked for him to be transferred to West Jefferson. I have not seen my husband since we left Hancock Hospital yesterday. They have not allowed me to see him or ask the doctors any questions. I was not allowed to tell him goodbye yet, the people behind me (more than one) was allowed to walk right in. I'm losing it not knowing what is happening. No one from the hospital has spoken to me. Absolutely no compassion for family members at this hospital.

I am quite disappointed at the comment made by the claimed medical professional Dr. LINDSEY YORK. My sister took my one year old nephew there today, 06/27/19 due to a few concerns with his stomach virus, he was prescribed medicine. However, the medicine did not have much of an effect on relieving the issue. As she was making an observation, she made a remark: "This child is a walking advertisement of child abuse." My sister was left in awe at what was said.
What I am more concerned about is the why behind the comment. The child is NOT malnourished, abused, or isolated away from loved ones. She made this comment based on a few scratches that he got from playing around with other children his age. He's a happy child who loves to play, learn, eat, and share. This was very unprofessional and I do hope that West Jeff makes an advancement on fixing this issue.

Going on 4 Hrs waiting on being seen. While the male nurse that checked us in was as nice as can be. The wait is unacceptable. Lady across from me is saying she has been here 6 hrs waiting. I brought my mother in because she fell. She is 85 years old and keeps asking to go home. She is hungry, thirsty and tired. I had to take my husband to Ochsner ER the other night, with 5 people in waiting room and we were in the back in 15 min. What is their problem Here? I am given no stars.

My wife was hospitalized last month. Had an operation, ran low grade fever for five days after the operation. Returned to hospital emergency room, catscan showed infection. Looked up surgeon that did operation found out he has a high rate of infection. Look up your doctor before any operation. Now the Hospital! West Jefferson Hospital is not the good hospital it was years ago.
My wife and I, our opinion. Staff slow at everything from asking them to get you water. to checking out of the hospital. One thing that showed right away WJ was not the same hosp. No welcome package, like bath soap, toothpaste, shampoo and other things you normally get at hospitals. When she did get those things, it was not sealed. We had to ask the hospital for these things. It may seem that I'm being petty but when we are paying THOUSANDS of dollars everyone should expect a good hospital stay. The good part my wife is doing well.

Anyone can have a different experience in the hospital in which it can host many things, from surgeries, to MD visits, to having babies, and even enjoying the cafeteria. WJMC has maintained their right to be the best hospital on the West Bank since there aren't many others around. I have been here for almost everything and have never had a bad experience thus far.
I have had many family members give birth, enjoyed many items prepared in the cafeteria and even had MD visits for check ups or blood work. You will always find workers cleaning the halls or waiting areas. The ER usually stays busy which many people may write negative things about due to bad experiences. Hospitals will always have its ups and downs, but so far WJMC has been providing me with more ups!

Came into the emergency room for another issue, but while registering with one of the nurses I sat directly in front of her and in the trash directly in front of me was a shirt covered in blood. The only question in my mind was "I wonder how many people have seen this". I am no medical professional by all means but I wash my own behind. I know this is not sanitary.

After diagnosis of Basal Cell Carcinoma a Surgery was schedule. The people I encountered in what for most of us is an unnerving situation, did their very best to comfort me as they moved me through the process. All said and done the procedure was a success! But more-so than my story is the story of my late wife who had contracted pancreatic cancer.
I literally lived in that building for 5 months before my wife was sent home on hospice. What I have to say is that given the medical system we live with, the doctors and the hospital renewed my faith in the hypocritical oath. You see my wife was one that fell through the cracks as it pertains to insurance, so between the doctors and hospital they still found a way to give her excellent care.
In the end my wife lost her battle with cancer but I am grateful for all parties involved for giving their best to explore every avenue and give her dignity as she face her demise

I've been a guest her on several occasions. For surgeries, and several ER visits. Unlike some of the other reviewers I've never had to experience a 6 hour wait in the emergency room. But I did make sure to have my insurance card available. The nurses and the Drs in the ER were caring enough to want to relieve my pain while I waited for admission.
However there is a big difference in nursing staff. As mentioned by other reviewers some nurses are lazy and in my opinion undertrained. There needs to be more supervision by Sr. Nurses. Hand washing is an issue. I saw several instances of this before my dressing change. Several times they forgot to flush out the pic line in my arm after drawing blood, thus it got clogged.
This is not pleasant. And I had to beg for the pic line to be inserted, to keep the blood drawing techs away from me. The blood techs are grossly undertrained. Straight out of nursing school and haw no clue on how and where to draw blood that's beneficial to the patient. I actually refused for one of the techs to take blood from me. It was that bad.
I ended up leaving the hospital with my arms so bruised and battered my friends thought I had been in a car wreck. But thru it all there were nurses and Staff that did go above and beyond to help me. They even liked coming in my room and talking to me to get to know me and I appreciated their company.

Overall it is a major facility in the making. They currently have Cerner as their EHR which is severely limiting them in the aspect of documentation. I heard many of the nurses complain that there was no way to back chart and that they had to be 'on time' for all med administration. Sigh and welcome to a subpar EHR. My baby brother is a patient here and has been for sometime.
Over the years he has been an inpatient for various and sundry ailments and continued to choose this hospital when he called an ambulance. I am pleased with the care they provide him and he is most difficult patient there is known to man. He is a major complainant. The staff has been very up front with me concerning his care and I am pleased with their professionalism and acumen of the system. I hope to work with this hospital as they start their segue to EPIC. For the right fees of course.

Probably the worst Hospital, wait is unbelievable. Finally left after waiting three hours and the only thing they did was take blood pressure and made sure that had my insurance. Oh and I love that when you talk to the staff it seems that they are doing me a favor. Between life and death I would rather die at my house than go there. At least at home I would get better attention from my dog than the hospital staff at this hospital.

It's always strange reviewing something like a hospital. Quite often, hospitals are personal places that people choose because their doctor works there or simply because it's close to home. In the last few months, I had two family members admitted here for two different reasons. I'm not going to go into vivid detail about our experience with West Jeff.
What I will say is that my loved ones ended up here because we were told that this is where they would receive the best treatment, and I didn't always find this to be the case. We've had experience with both West Jeff and Ochsner, and all the way around we preferred Ochsner. Things just seems to be run better over there. I will say this- when a 95 year old woman is discharged at 6 pm, it is inexcusable for an ambulance to not become available until 9 pm and leave her waiting that entire time.
That MIGHT be fine for a 30 year old who is admitted for a broken leg, but when a woman has been admitted for dehydration and just being 95, there is really no excuse. Elderly people depend on a schedule in order to keep them functioning. Meals and sleep must happen at a certain time, and when you feel like the hospital doesn't respect that, it's a little off putting.

Hmmm, what to say what to say. Well I been very blessed that I have not needed to be here in the case of an emergency. I have had two children delivered here without issues and I come here for regular check ups and refills of my crazy pills. Lotsa parking. Don't even bother with the original parking lot on the street level unless you are really lazy or like circling for hours.
Head straight to the parking garage and try and get on the 2nd level. Take the stairs, not elevator and do your thang. Im happy that there is a place like this close by my home and hope I never need to come here because something bad has happened to me. Thank you

I usually dread going to the doctors office, but this place wasn't half bad. The wait time in the lobby wasn't very long at all. Which is really surprising given the fact that most times waiting can take forever. The staff members were very friendly, and knowledgeable. My visit to the hospital went way better than expected. The next time I am in need of medical care I will keep this place open as an option. In short not a bad hospital at all.

I have been here several times to visit patients in the ER. Reasons to go: 1) Triage staff actually care. It is like any other ER in the fact that once you step in there, it will be a minimum of 6 hours. 2) They have TVs in the lobby. Reasons to avoid: 1) Cleanliness. ERs even if they are on the westbank should be pretty clean, right? *QUEASY STOMACHS SKIP TO #2* Found a bloody, pus-crusted gauze patch on the floor of the ER and I dared my buddy $5 to tongue-drag it.
He did not. 2) The ER doctors are overworked, tired, and their attitudes are not the best (arrogance mixed with sarcasm) affects the patients' and nurses' demeanors. Get a better rotation? 3) Their system at midnight to 6am needs some fine tuning. They were double-tapping on blood work and not efficient on priorities. Better management or maybe people on the bottom-end of the scale to understand what they are to do next?

I've had the unfortunate luck of having to visit the ER at West Jeff twice. On both visits, it took an excessively long time to see a doctor. I get that they need to prioritize, but when other hospitals (ie Ochsner) post their ER wait times online and West Jeff doesn't, I have a feeling it's because they KNOW they are slow. I went in once, being the patient myself, and waited 6 hours in the waiting room.
I then waited another hour in the room to even have a nurse come in and check on me. It was just short of 8 hours total before I saw a doctor. When he finally arrived, he was thorough, kind, and efficient. This is the only reason West Jeff gets 2 stars. It was a similar experience this most recent time, about a week ago. My almost 2 year old daughter injured her arm, so we took her to the ER.
It was a Saturday night so the pediatrician wasn't an option. We waited quite a while (not nearly as long as the 8 hour trip) to see a doctor. Once again, the doctor on duty was wonderful. Next time, I'll go online first and check out the ER wait times at other metro area hospitals. It may just be worth a trip across the river to the Eastbank, rather than waiting in West Jeff's waiting room.

West Jeff is the biggest hospital on the westbank. Located on the well named Medical Center Blvd., West Jeff houses an ER, full service hospital and medical offices. There are even meeting rooms where the occasional public meeting or presentation is held. The ER is busy. Plan to wait if you aren't critical. Once you get brought to a room you still should plan on a lengthy wait.
I don't think the waiting is unique to WJ, but is worth mentioning. On my most recent ER visit, the nurses were friendly and caring. The doctor was no-nonsense and knowledgeable, but not super personable. In the hospital pediatric area, the nurses are truly wonderful. While I fortunately have not had much experience with them, the experiences I have had were really great.
The hospital is old, and feels old. It is kept clean, but its age shows. Parking is a nightmare. Because the hospital is so busy the outside parking is very difficult. There is a parking garage, but it is on the opposite side from the ER and main entrance. This hospital does have a heliport. If you're on the westbank and need something fixed, chances are, you'll end up here.
