There are different types of cataracts, but the most common cataract is age-related. As we get older, the natural lens inside our eye becomes cloudy causing blurred vision, which cannot be corrected by glasses.

Dr. Shriver performed PRK on my astigmatism eye and Lasik on my other in December 2021. To go from wearing glasses and contacts for the last 33 years to not having to wear either has been AMAZING! The process from consultation to the procedure was easy and convenient. Dr. Shriver and his team are TOP NOTCH!

I needed an assessment immediately for a serious eye problem. I drive a significant distance to see Dr. Yap. He is an excellent, intelligent, and compassionate professional. Since Dr. Yap wasn't available, I was seen by Dr. Shriver. I have never met ANY doctor who was so condescending and nasty. He actually refused to send me to the specialist I needed.
I specifically asked the front desk to note I would never see him again under any circumstances. It is obvious why he was the only doctor in the practice available on short notice.

I had cataract surgery on both eyes with Dr. Shriver. I can honestly tell you that this was by far my best experience ever. Dr. Shriver and his Team are the most professional, companionate, and caring people I have ever met. the surgery was easy and fast and most importantly my vision is perfect. Dr. Shriver called me personally when I got home after my surgery to see how I was doing. Thank you Dr. Shriver and team for everything. I will return to Dr. Shriver every year from now on for check ups and monitoring my vision health.

I had PRK surgery 5 weeks ago with Dr. Shriver and my vision is already 20/20! I wore glasses for the last 40 years due to an astigmatism and severe near-sightedness. I was not sure that I would even be a candidate for laser eye correction, so that was why I hesitated getting a consultation earlier. The staff, especially Katherine and Dr. Shriver, explained the process, recovery and financial payment options thoroughly.
I was not a candidate for LASIK, so PRK was recommended. Dr. Shriver was very transparent with me, informing that the recovery was slower than with LASIK. My advice is to trust Dr. Shriver and the healing process. After one week my vision was 20/25 (before surgery it was -9.0). It did fluctuate however, week 2 and 3 post-op. By week 4, my vision was perfect! My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner!

Unwilling to help you unless you buy from them. They wanted too much money for the lens for the new glasses I needed. So I got a pair from a mail order place with the prescription they gave me. When I got the glasses something wasn't right. So I went to the store and found out that the glasses were made to the prescription but measurements were off. But they wouldn't tell what measurement was off. I was told they couldn't give out the information I needed to correct the problem I was having. The eye exam was good.

I think Dr. Mascarenhas is wonderful and I would give her MORE than 5 stars if I could. And frankly she's the reason I keep coming. I am very unhappy that this medical office, unlike any other that I go to, will not assure me that everyone is vaccinated. Every other doctors office that I go to has assured me that everyone is vaccinated. As a patient coming to your office--with people up close to my face during an eye examination--I felt very nervous, given that I'm 71.
I asked my tech and luckily she was vaccinated so that I didn't have to ask for someone else. I believe all medical offices have a responsibility to assure their patients that anyone the patient comes into contact with is vaccinated--and now boostered. In my opinion, it's not enough to say that you don't require vaccinations among your staff because you might lose someone to another office.
Which is more important: the safety of your patients or some difficulty in managing your office? I really hope that you revise this policy before I have to come back for another appointment. Dr. Mascarenhas is a wonderful doctor--so personable and lovely and clearly an excellent clinician. If it were not for her, given your vaccination policy, I would have found another office.

I've been a patient of Dr. Mascarenhas for several years. I trusted her not only for my basic ongoing eye care, but also to perform Cataract and laser surgeries in both eyes. I trust her completely. Aside from her total competent professionalism, she has a great personality and truly cares for the wellbeing of her patients, taking the time to explain care options clearly and unrushed. She exemplifies what how a Doctor should be!

I first came to Middlesex Eye Physicians with an eye emergency in 2012. I was seen by Dr. Raji who immediately made an appointment with a retinal specialist so I could be seen the same day. Since then she has treated me successfully for cataracts -- including cataract surgery-- and elevated intraocular pressure. She is approachable, answers all my questions, and is also extremely personable.

All positive things to say about Dr Yap. He is timely, kind, and knowledgeable. He is even good at explaining things in lay terms. I feel confident with him as my eye doctor : The entire team was super nice! Especially the place where you choose your glasses. I had an issue with picking up and they went out of their way to ensure I was able to get my glasses on my day off including bringing them to another location. I believe the lady's name was Iris. She went above and beyond for me. 10/10 service!

This is my 2nd review of this practice I had a wonderful experience with doctor Yap today. Hes clearly very knowledgeable. He is also patient and kind and made sure all of my questions were answered and I understood everything we went over. He took all the time we need during my appointment and even said he would call my PCP to discuss my underlying health issue to keep her in the loop. Further, one of the staff, Stacey, walked me right next door to the vascular center for an immediate procedure rather than getting on the phone with the office.
This sped up my progress in getting answers to what is quickly becoming my journey to recovery of an autoimmune disease. I walked away feeling much more confident not only about the practice but about my prognosis. Thank God for these angels.

I brought my broken glasses in today to see if they could be fixed or if they were under warranty. It turns out, I needed new frames but the warrant had expired recently. They were nice enough to still honor that for me, which I greatly appreciate considering I have an 11 month old and struggle financially a bit. They also called to let me know the ones I chose were on back order and I said I could wait but the girl said she ordered me two colors so I didn't have to go without and when the black ones came in, I could switch. This is all really great customer service. Even before today, they've been very friendly and great. 10/10 I highly recommend!

I had be seeing the same eye Dr. in East Lyme for years and he'd never listen to me about my inability to see through my floaters. I decided to research an alternative and found Dr. Raji. She recognized my issues immediately and prescribed the right course of treatment and referred me to a retina specialist who confirmed her diagnosis. They performed bilateral Pars Plano Vitrectomy which was life changing. I was able to see clearly for the first time in 5 years. I need not complain or beg for help any longer. You can trust your vision to Dr. Raji.

Life changing. Like many, I was nervous and anxious about eye surgery. Entire experience from initial consult to cataract surgery was professional and assuring. Dr. Raji took the time to explain everything in a way that made me feel so comfortable. After surgery in just one eye, I saw things and colors that I don't recall ever seeing. Have not worn my glasses in several weeks. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, my other eye surgery has to wait. Cannot imagine what it will be like to have 2 good eyes. Dr. Raji and staff are the best! I am so thankful to everyone at Middlesex Eye.

New patient here and so far, I've been impressed with both the eye care and the opticians. I was treated for a 'clogged tear duct' with topical antibiotics, and practical tips to treat and prevent further instances. I subsequently wanted new glasses, with an existing prescription from another optician. They have the latest styles (the larger frame which works best with my face shape), and very good opticians.
The previous place that I went to fitted my glasses by bending it inward, which created a bit of pain after several hours of wearing their glasses. Here, they fitted my new (and stylish) frames by curving it around my ears. The optician that worked with me was very caring, and even cleaned my old glasses, and gave a free bottle of eyeglasses cleaner. All in all, I am sold on this place and will get my next eye exam and future pairs of glasses here.

Dr Yap was great. He has cared for me, as well as my child and he interacted with her perfectly. The office was running behind, it was a long wait and long appointment. The assistant was patient with my child. Age appropriate, competent care for my child. As well as continued excellent adult care for myself.

This review is regarding Dr. Raji Mulukutla. I'm not going to drag this on and make it long. Also, I'm sure there will be a response from her office after this review. The response will be all lies. But I know what I know, and this is the truth. I have never had a problem with any other doctor regarding fillers. I've had 2 previous doctors who had done fillers on me and had ZERO problem.
Also I am not a person to complain, but when I see wrong doing, I must speak up. With that being said, the last time I had fillers with Dr. Raji she had told me I had some leftover. It had already cost me almost $900. I wrote it in my iPhone notes so I knew for sure the cost, date and price. I called back to get the remainder of it, and her office assistant told me there was nothing left, after driving over an hour to the office under the impression I was getting the remaider of my filler. THIS WAS A COMPLETE LIE.
I KNOW I HAD FILLER LEFT OVER. DO NOT TRUST THIS DOCTOR, I BEG OF YOU. SHE WILL ROB YOU. They make you believe you have nothing left over so you go ahead and buy another $900 worth of fillers. And most people will not question a doctor, or feel too embarrassed to, I myself would have never questioned either. But I had taken notes, so I DO KNOW. Make sure to take notes of EVERYTHING. Doctors are people too, and they can scam just like any other person.
And that is the truth. This office will try to say that they don't hold a tube for more than a certain time, or try to deny I had any filler left. It's a lie, I looked at my notes, so I know that I did.

About a year ago we relocated to Connecticut. I wear glasses and have become accustomed to my silhouettes. Unfortunately, they are prone to metal fatigue and will suddenly snap, making them unusable. This has happened twice in 2013, so I found this establishment which was able to repair them. Since I needed a new prescription, I decided to make an appointment here. (It is only located a few hundred meters from my work.) Also, the optometrist I was scheduled with was recommended by two coworkers.
We just got new health insurance though the ACA, though with a high deductible. Unfortunately I was informed that the clinic did not take any plans from the CT exchange. Oh, well! I'd do private pay as I have done many a times. I compared the exam with others I have had at optometrist offices. For the last 10 years or so, I went to a doc in Alameda, CA. There, I had to go through several machine exams, one of which was perimetry, a visual field test which also tests for glaucoma.
The optometrist would then test my distance and near vision to determine the best corrective lenses. Now here, I went directly into the exam room. The optometrist was VERY nice. My chief complaint was with reading. He did an eye pressure exam as well as a thorough fundoscopic exam. He was even concerned about some narrow drainage channels despite my never ever having had problems with dilation.
He checked my distant vision but not my near vision. Instead he decided to just crank up my reading lenses a notch. Essentially I was quite content with the exam although it was not as comprehensive as I was used to. But then came the surprise. In the past I had paid between $80 and $120 for an exam. After just looking up average fees, I found some $150 ones.
I was charged $345! I have not yet received my new glasses. They will cost $900+. But that I expected. I hope the reading part is correct. My biggest problem is the cost as related to the service. When you have to pay more than twice as much for the same (or even fewer) services, the overall rating drops. Perhaps when one has a complicated ophthalmologic disorder, it is worth it. But for a routine vision exam the fee was a little over the top.

More stars for Dr Raji. I have only had glasses a few years and my first pair was a horror story - i took my prescription to an eyeglass place that had a frame i liked and what i got back was glasses with lenses that were put in upside down. talk about headaches and stange visions. Now I always come to Dr Raji and get my glasses from their eyeglass store in the lobby. I trust these people with my eyes!
