My aunts feeding tube has filled with blood, they called at 10:30am to advise my other aunt that they were transporting her to the hospital, it 1:38pm and we called back to find out where she is, still at the facility waiting on an ambulance. UNACCEPTABLE. No one cares, no communication. I wish I could give negative five zeros. We are working on getting her moved to another facility

My Dad is in the Cedar unit. It tears my heart out that he is in a nursing home. The staff in this dementia unit are outstanding. They are dedicated, professional, show compassion and empathy. I applaud Volanda, Joe, Barb, Luis, Denise, Sam and the many others that I do not know by name. You are the complete opposite of your upper management, where when you call.leave messages ( of course) you don't even get a acknowledgement that you called or when meetings are arranged and no one shows. But you know the team in the Cedar Unit make up for the lacking in upper management. So Bravo to the Cedar Unit!

Horrifying! If you care about your loved ones, DO NOT put them in this facility! My dad developed a nosebleed and they could not control it for 2 hours, then decided to send him to the ER. Where they called and lied and said it was 45 mins. He hemorrhaged and was unresponsive from losing so much blood they performed CPR at the hospital to bring him back.
Completely unacceptable. Prior to this, he got COVID there, because their lack of following proper protocols allowed patients and staff to get it. Not strict about visitors checking in and visitors where allowed in patients rooms without masks. This facility should be shut down, just awful!

My mom needed some physical therapy after a 2 week stay in the hospital. So we read some reviews on the acute rehab facilities and decided on Bartley healthcare in Jackson. We heard a few good things about the place and it wasnt far from our home. She was admitted end January 2022 and stayed for 5 weeks which was 5 weeks too long. So my first impression of the place was a positive one.
Most of the nursing staff seemed professional with a caring heart for the patients. But I sensed they worked extremely hard with long hours because it showed in some of their attitudes when asked them for help with my mom. But what was disturbing was hearing patients screaming to be changed, fed or just needed some pain relief, and the call lights flashing in many rooms in the section.
These nurses were working hard, always on their feet, running to try to catch up and administering the correct meds to patients, but they were very short staffed as many other businesses were at this time due to the pandemic, What was more disturbing to me was that it seemed as the acute area shared the section with the memory unit as there were several patients hanging out in the hallways and common area where there was a tv, beverages and where they ate their meals.
Unfortunately most with different levels of dementia, as some were screaming things, others not fully dressed or just staring into space but in my opinion did not belong sharing the acute area. The facility is old, run down and just not well kept but what can I expect from a place which is not a state of the art new facility. The rooms were kept fairly clean which was a surprise since I rarely saw any cleaning staff which was odd since we were still battling a pandemic and many healthcare facilities just came out of being in a lock down due to the rapid increase of covid 19.
But staffing was a problem everywhere during these times so everyone did their best. Now the Physical therapy department and its activities which is the sole purpose for being a patient in the acute area at Bartley. The only positive thing I can say is the staff is very nice. The PT quarters is quite small but they do have enough equipment for the needs of the patients.
But to have scheduled pt everyday was a real problem unless you are constantly asking the dept for some time during the day. So the day comes and goes without any exercises for your loved one who is there to regain her strength in order to be independent again. They blame their fallouts on medicare, therapist calling in sick, it was too crowded and on and on.
But the days where you're lucky enough to get therapy is really a huge letdown. The exercises are honestly a joke and are pointless for the patient esp. after 2 weeks of these moves. The PT dept has occupational and physical therapy. The occupational therapist is a young women who tries and motivates the patients in a positive way which helps getting the patient to do the tasks.
Without her I would have taken my mom elsewhere after 2 weeks since the other therapist were really below par. There is really no schedule or a routine this department uses in order to be successful and for the patients to get excited about their physical therapy time. They have no concept of time since they tell the patient they will bring them at a certain hour but again that hour comes and goes and if they do manage to come by its usually hours later and a rushed session.
So the patient comes back to the room feeling depressed and futureless in their recovery. But hopefully things may change for the department and they will be a real player in the acute pt world, Next are the meals. I think food at a food shelter would be an improvement. Besides looking awful the taste was even worse. The y have 1 menu plan for everyone regardless of their dietary restrictions and many seniors have health issues and meals play an important role in getting themselves healthy enough to go home and not back in the hospital.
Regardless if its diabetic, low sodium, iron rich or soft foods, the chefs need to pay attention to this. Yes if needed you can alter the menu slightly. For instance one dinner was hotdogs but I found it hard to figure out how to make a hot dog low sodium, soft, dietetic etc. I did find out they do serve baked tilapia with lemon each day but who can eat that every night.
Some of the salads came with prepackaged dressings where the package had all the nutrition stated on the package and it was not a healthy choice. I spoke with the dietician a few times who seemed proud of the food choices they are serving and got very defensive to my asking for a healthier type of menu. So finally after many weeks of this horrific experience for my mom and watching her getting more depressed each day, I checked her out and brought her to another acute rehab facility which was the right choice.

If I could give this place negative 10 that would be my rating please do not put your loved ones in this place for sub acute rehab This is in response to the owner of the facility if you are so concerned about the patients maybe instead of having me contact your administrator Laura you should stand up and contact me. I'm sure they have my number and remember who I am

Was there today visiting a friend and all you hear are the aide's yelling at the residents for no reason whatsoever. Can you say ABUSE? This place has always been one of the worst facilities ever and I don't know why it hasn't been shut down. Nurses aren't in charge. The aides are. Take it from me who has first hand experience from working there through agency and the place hasn't changed.
It's only gotten worse. I feel bad for the residents that have to put up with the lousy care and the abuse they have to go through. This place needs to be shut down. They don't care about you or your needs

My husband had a terrible accident at home and he needed a lot of care and attention. We decided to go with bartley due to its incredible reputation within our community. The staff was wonderful, my husband did almost 3 weeks of therapeutic rehabilitation and it was decided between the family that the care myself and our family could provide was not enough to tend to his needs.
We transitioned him over to the assisted living facility next door and are very pleased with the move. I visit him often and come to their Friday afternoon jubilee programs. Thank you for taking care of my husband.

When you send somebody in your family to a place like this, all that you hope is that they're surrounded by a staff that is extremely caring and takes their job seriously - this is NOT that place. I feel somewhat more justified in seeing similar reviews/experiences, but it doesn't make it any easier on the people here or their families. Staff here are very rude to families and negligent to the patients of the nursing home. Pre-COVID this place was a nightmare, now it's a literal prison where they make it incredibly difficult to visit your loved ones.
Even if you are vaccinated, you get 30 minutes to see a family member and they literally ya k them away. They continue to shut down particular wings of the nursing home when there are COVID cases, with over-extending that shut down and not following CDC reopening guidelines. People here lack common sense and respect, and if you call them, expect to get transferred multiple times or permanently wait on hold. Bartley is an absolute disgrace for people like myself that are already in pain over the position of their loved ones.

This place does not even deserve one star! Please don't bother responding with your generic answer of call this phone number so that we can discuss your concerns because nobody answers the phone. My 81-year-old mother had a hip replacement surgery and was admitted 8 o'clock at night. The next day they had her sitting in a wheelchair against doctors orders ringing the nurse bell for 1 1/2 hours to go to the bathroom and they left her there to defecate all over herself. UNACCEPTABLE!
Her medication's were all messed up. UNACCEPTABLE!. She wasn't bathe in eight days. Finally the day came for her to be showered they sent a male therapist in. UNACCEPTABLE! They gave her recycled socks with somebody else's name on them. UNACCEPTABLE. They verbally abused family members screaming in their faces. UNACCEPTABLE. Constantly telling patients and their family members that they are overworked, understaffed and underpaid is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL!
This facility should be closed and it's employees be given classes and retrained in ethics and what their responsibilities are as unit managers, social workers, directors of units, doctors or nurses or aides. If not then they should seriously consider career changes. Even the insurance nurse practitioner could not believe what transpired that she had to speak to the director of nursing! You should all be ashamed of yourselves and pray that your parents don't end up in your Bartley facility!

Okay. I thought I did my update and realized I did not. I was here for 2 weeks, to recover from emergency abdominal surgery. Since it was January 2021, still height of Covid-19, the staff here, really stuck to guidelines. I was in a room that was kept clean, sanitized and comfortable. I had 3 different therapy/rehabilitation coaches and Becca was hands down fantastic.
She kept me positive and on the right track for recovery. My diet was limited, due to my surgery, so I really couldn't eat normal foods, but the dietitian designed a perfect meal plan for me, which helped. I did have 2 bad migraines hit me, I do suffer from them, but these were really difficult to plow through. Staff here, knew I was suffering and helped me through them. Obviously, I was not allowed visitors, but my son was able to drop off clothes and personal items for me, and them come by my window, so I could see him.
He was the only person of my family I could see in anyway, for the months time, that I was away from home, during all this, because my hubby, MIL & FIL all came down with Covid-19, and Mini-Me was taking care of them. I can't say enough good things about Bartley, I would most definitely choose them again, should I need rehabilitation care again.

This is the worst place I have ever dealt with. In my eyes they killed my mother. The staff is the worst. Social workers.extortionists, they were threatening, nasty, unhelpful and uncaring. The staff should be told that many guest speak Spanish and we understood every nasty, uncaring terrible thing they said to and about my mother and our family and friends.
I will be reporting them to the state and so will my mothers friends and family. The hospital was appalled with the staff in the office and with the care my mother received there. I will never understand how this place is still open.since our experience there I have heard nothing but terrible things about the staff and the way they treat the patients.
This is not a one star review it is a negative stars review. God help the staff if they are ever in the patients or families shoes.do unto others.need I say more.they should not be in business. The state is investigating this place on a regular basis. I will never ever forget the cruelty that happened. I hope the staff can sleep at night lol

Having worked as an RN at a local hospital, this facility was always regarded as "one of the best" in the area. Faced with making a decision to place my dad in a rehab facility as he recovered from surgery, this was our family's first choice. It was certainly clean and no fault there. I cannot speak more highly of the PT and OT staff there. absolute angels who loved their jobs and truly cared about dads progress. Unfortunately, I wish I could say the same for the nursing staff.
Though polite and friendly, their lack of nursing compassion and skills toward my dad was clearly lacking. Having had a serious medical setback while there, I had to be physically present (leave work and hurry over due to concerns relayed by already visiting family members) to assure appropriate care was provided (he had all the clinical signs of pulmonary embolism, however the nurse insisted he was fine, "maybe it's an infection starting".yes, he did have bilateral clots requiring additional treatment).
What a chore getting anyone to do anything about it! As a new ostomy patient as well there were at least two separate occasions where appropriate medical supplies were not afforded him, he was told he had to wait because they were "locked up" or the staff didn't have any left! (Not what you want your loved one to go through - especially with a new abdominal incision that could very easily have gotten infected).
My multiple efforts to discuss this with the director of nursing, nursing supervisor, and even the administrator fell on deaf ears as I am still awaiting a return to the numerous voicemails I left for them. Lastly, would've been a nice gesture to include my mother in discharge planning efforts. As dad's caregiver, expected to care for her previously independent husband, mom should have been included in the process. I wouldn't return nor would I recommend to others.

We made it through a terrible time thanks to the exceptional care and consideration provided by the Bartley staff. Everyone we encountered demonstrated a commitment to their work that gave us comfort. We knew our mother was well cared for and that we needn't worry: we did not need to be on alert, watching for errors or omissions. Rather, we could focus on being with our mother, knowing that her care was in excellent hands. We also agreed that the people who do this work are clearly called to it. They are special people who we admire and thank wholeheartedly.
