By now, it is likely that you, a family member, friend or coworker has experienced the most advanced, state-of-the-art eye care now available right here in Panama City. Although The Eye Center of North Florida may seem like a relatively new company, its roots go back to 1936. The Eye Center of North Florida was formed in 1999 following the merger of the Newberry Eye Clinic and the Gulf Coast Eye Clinic, two of the oldest, most established and trusted eye care practices in the Florida panhandle. The Newberry group, founded by Dr. Grant Newberry, had a long history of providing comprehensive optometric services and was located at 470 Harrison Avenue.
The Eye Center of North Florida was formed in 1999 following the merger of the Newberry Eye Clinic and the Gulf Coast Eye Clinic, two of the oldest, most established, and trusted eye care practices in the Florida panhandle. The two groups worked together to care for patient needs in Panama City. It was decided to build an Eye Center that had all the optometric and ophthalmologic specialties under one roof to truly provide comprehensive eye care to the community. It would allow the individual physicians to develop their specialties, foster participation in research and development of ocular disease and surgery, and consolidate the combined practice experience of the group to better serve the specific needs of each patient.
Anthony L. Aker, O.D. received his B.S. degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1977 and his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Tennessee in 1981. He is a member of the Bay County Optometric Society, Florida Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association.

I have been a patient at the eye center for a few years, mostly normal stuff but I have had a couple procedures by Dr Garland, who is very exceptional doctor and a man of great character. When a surgery didn't have a proper outcome he repeated in a different manner at HIS expense! Also recently I scratched my cornea working I'm the yard ans was in extreme pain, so I just went there and asked if they could see me in which they did quickly as they could see the pain I was in. THEY WERE WONDERFUL. Saw Dr. Llisa can't remember her last name, but she was so concerned, helpful and got me some medication that started to ease the pain. WOULD highly recommend! They make appointments then allow walk ins after 1.5 hours past my appointment and watching others complain about being the 2 hours. I walked out. They called my wife and ask her to cancel her appointment also because of over booking. If you have all day and don't mind giving your money to someone who doesn't value your time may possibly be a good doctor.

Scared. Scared of losing more money. Scared on still not getting answers. Scared of being RUSHED through, scared of being locked into another contract to "give it 10 days" I'm a patient that has seen numerous other Dr.'s OVER THE YEARS.it's been hell. They SWORE to me. they would do everything possible in testing, considering my medical history.no.

And I pick up the glasses and I couldn't see out of them. Can't get anyone on the phone, I was gladly back out and went straight in. "We ask you give it 2 weeks" they already knew the fear I was in. NOT NEW. The Rx did NOT change that much. I laid my head down to just cry and pray and THANK GOD Harry came out and now I'm to see another Dr. there. this will be the 6th or 7th optometrist I've seen in Bay County, God only knows the number of frames and lenses.

I need and want answers, not to be tricked into losing another few hundred dollars minimum then given the bum rush out. My appoithent is tomorrow, I pray for answers an they lay off my money and pay attention to MY WORDS. I'm old enough to know I should be able to see. I pray for better results and a better review. I have PTSD so bad from various eye centers treating me so badly, I pray I make it. I had to literally lay my head down and CRY To even get a RECHECK appointment scheduled before the 2 week trial. SCARED.

I have been coming to this eye center for 6 years now. I have the most difficult time with the women answering the phone. It has taken me over 3 weeks to get any assistance from them. They are lacking in customer service skills. I have been nothing but polite on the phone, and get nothing but attitude in return.

People kept telling me that lasik would be "the best money I've ever spent." I always thought highly of The Eye Center and they were the only ones I'd trust with this procedure. It's turned out beyond my greatest imaginings! I've never seen in such clarity, such vivid detail, such crisp brightness! No contact or glasses could compare to the stunning contrast of perfect vision!

I cried! I'm so happy! I hear my vision will only improve from here! I can't even imagine it being better than this! And the way they treated me with such kindness and care! I was afraid but they put my mind at ease. I'll never be able to thank them enough! Thank you Dr. Fisher and all the amazing staff! From the bottom of my heart!

I'm glad they take my insurance. It's been a long time since my last exam. I love that there is an optical shop there too.

My background: I had a TBI a few years ago which caused severe light sensitivity, a small deficit in one eye and convergence issues along with quick fatigue. I've spent almost a year going to Optometrists in my area with them giving me the wrong glasses every single time. I finally had enough and searched out someone who has more experience in my needs, aka prism.

I had to drive 3 hours to this location but it was worth it. I had one exam which went really well. I appreciate the waiting room for patients being dimly lit. The prescription didn't take long to come in, which was also nice since I didn't have any backup glasses at the time. I made another trip there to pick up my glasses and yes, unfortunately, they were not something that I could work with.

Similar issues as the previous Optometrist where they were giving me glasses for wicked near sightedness but after 2 weeks of really trying, they still did not work. When I called the Optical Department and left a message about the issues, a Darlene Sapp contacted me back. From that second, I was in the right hands. Ms. Darlene was my advocate. From helping me get my glasses there without making multiple 3 hour trips back and forth to fighting for the right tint/color in my glasses, she was and is my person!

It did take a while but I now have glasses that WORK for me. I wear them anytime my eyes are open and I have not had any issues. Ms. Darlene called me many times, over the course of helping me, to update me on what was happening with my glasses. She fought harder for me than anyone ever has, honestly. Darlene Sapp is the reason I will continue to go here for my future eye care needs.

I just can't say enough good things about this facility and the people who work there. We've received better than satisfactory treatment during every encounter, which has included eye exams, purchase of glasses, and a surgical procedure. Every single person we've encountered has been friendly and professional. The facility is clean and well maintained. We feel totally confident trusting them with our vision.

Always excellent, thorough care. The most comprehensive eye exams that I have ever received. Dr Pyne is terrific: professional, personable, intelligent, thorough and caring.
