The people here are wonderful and very kind. You can't ask for kinder people that know their jobs, Doctors and Front Office staff alike. I absolutely recommend this place. Just DON'T BE LATE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT. Show up early and Remember its on Flatbush Avenue Extension, not Flatbush Avenue. Lol ooops

Hi! I was referred to Callen-Lorde by my former PCP before moving to NYC in February. I was really looking forward to getting care here as it's stated purpose is to provide a safe and supportive space for queer folx to get their healthcare needs addressed. While the attendants and doctors themselves have been lovely to interact with, the communication, or complete lack thereof, especially when it comes to prescription refills, has been truly horrific.
I've been a patient with Callen-Lorde for two months and have already run out of multiple prescriptions multiple times, one of which was PrEP. I've done a lot on my end to try and ensure that they are refilled on time (messaging through the portal a week in advance, calling multiple times to check and make sure my messages had gotten through after not getting any response online), but still the lack of communication persists and I've run out.
It's worth noting that prior to my time as a patient at Callen-Lorde I'd never had an issue refilling either of the prescriptions that I need on a monthly basis. Even the process of trying to get my prescription redirected to a non-Callen-Lorde pharmacy has been an ordeal as it has involved trying to get into contact with the appropriate folks at Callen-Lorde, which at this point has become a process that I dread because it is typically a dead end.
To say that I'm disappointed with the care is a huge understatement, as it has gotten to a point where my basic needs, despite the staff being very kind, have remained unmet. Though CL talks a big game in terms of it's foundation as a space for queer folks by queer folks, my experience has been anything but affirming and relaxing. I've begun to do research into other queer-positive health care facilities and will update this review with those resources once I have more information so that others know where else they can turn. Thank you for your time!

The healthcare is great and all, the people there are helpful and affirming, but they don't answer the phone and they don't return calls when you leave a message. This causes huge problems and gaps in my treatment there because it's impossible to get in contact with them. A couple friends of mine also go here, they've noted they plan their whole day around calling Callen-Lorde, it's so impossible to reach them.

It's a nightmare trying to speak to someone on the phone. You call and you have to leave a message because no one ever answers. Then they send you a VoiceMail (without actually calling) saying to call them back You try to call back, and you have to leave another VoiceMail Then they send you a VoiceMail (without actually calling) saying to call them back You try to call back, and you have to leave another VoiceMail Then they send you a VoiceMail (without actually calling) saying to call them back ITS AN ENDLESS CYCLE.
The call center needs to be better managed. People's health is serious business. Please stop playing with me and let me speak to someone! The in-person service is good and I really like Dr. Sandling.
