It is the will and ambition of our patients who ultimately make their weight loss possible. Treating the whole person is a critical part of the care given to my patients. Dr. Simper performed his first bariatric procedures in 1984 at Wilford Hall Medical Center, in Texas. Currently, he performs laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and duodenal switch.
Dr. Douglas Greer was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah, where he graduated with a degree in Biology. He continued his education at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Greer then completed a general surgery residency at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California.
You will receive a confirmation e-mail with information about the next steps by mail or e-mail within 5-7 business days. We will contact your insurance company to determine if you have a weight loss surgery benefit available through your health insurance plan. We will gather any documentation and/or tests that your insurance company may require prior to surgery.
What is recovery like after surgery? First off, everyone is different in their response to pain and healing rate. Based on the many weight loss surgery and general surgery procedures we have performed at RMAP we have seen patterns that hold for most people. Please realize that these are generalized expectations and some of them may not represent precisely what you will experience.

Outstanding experience since visit #1. They really care about you, clarify what to expect, provide lots of informational materials and classes to ensure you know what you are obligating yourself to. Dr. Greer was my surgeon, super nice, professional and caring. My surgery went extremely well, post op days were way better than I expected them to be. Today is day 5 and I am at work feeling great. I know there's more positivity coming for my journey and I cannot wait. Best decision ever! I highly recommend RMAP.

Dr. Simper's negligence and ego caused the death of my mother. She went to him for reconstructive work on a previous surgery she had done. Dr. Simper promised her that he would not continue with his surgery if, once he got in there, he discovered the damage previously done was too profound. He did not keep that promise. Instead he continued to operate even after knowing it was extremely risky and negligent to do so, causing even more internal damage to my mother.
Less than 24 hours after surgery my mother suffered multiple complications (sepsis, fluid buildup in the lungs, etc.) which left her barely clinging onto life in the ICU. My mom spent three months in the ICU battling complication after complication, additional surgeries and procedures before finally passing away. I attempted to file a wrongful death/medical malpractice lawsuit against Dr. Simper. However, the law firm (G Eric Nielson & Associates) declined to proceed because the state of UT puts a cap on the amount of financial recovery in these types of cases.
So basically, because they weren't going to make enough money on the case, they decided not to pursue it. I also know for a fact that, five months after my mom passed away, another one of Dr. Simper's patients died after having surgery performed by him. DO NOT GO TO DR SIMPER! He is not competent or qualified to be operating on patients.

Called my insurance to make sure that it is good their and verified with their website takes it. Was told to take 2 hour seminar which I did. Only to be told sorry we take your insurance but we don't take it for that surgery. Very poor communication since some employees say they take it and some say they don't. Who wants the hassle.

I had gastric bypass surgery with Dr McKinlay on 7/29/2020 RMAP gave me the preparation I needed and followed me for a year to make sure that I had the resources needed and that my questions were answered. Now I am 100 pounds lighter. It is easier to shop for clothes and I no longer have high blood pressure. It is easier to move around.

I started my journey in January. Had my first visit in April & my claim was denied (as expected & communicated to me in the beginning) when I received a phone call from RMAP that I was denied Christina had no clue as to anything going on with my case and that this was to be expected and that we planned on appealing. She didn't read my notes before calling, I had to inform her of the plan.
It wasn't until I said something, and she looked back. I spoke with Kaitlyn days after and she assured me that Christina would help me with my appeal and that she was great at them. 2 weeks pass, I decide to reach out and Christina notifies me that "she doesn't do appeals for my insurance & the patient is supposed to." I've reached out 2-3 times, sat on hold for 30+ minutes.
No communication. How does a patient file an appeal without any of the documentation the office holds? I honestly don't even know where to begin. Frustrated is an understatement. At this point I'm ready to take my business elsewhere. Reading reviews I shouldn't be surprised apparently this is how they run their business. I just hoped for a different/better outcome.

Surgery went great the only issue is I needed extra time off of work due to complications and they said one thing to my face saying don't worry we will work with you and then tells my short term disability people that I am fine to go back. The Farlay guy is the worse too I am never going back to this office again would not recommend if they have Farlay still working with them.

This company is a joke. They do not follow through with what has been relayed to you. Will never deal with this company again. And the way Farley and Becky and Lissa speak to their patients is unacceptable. Very demeaning and they have this attitude that they're better than you. Especially Farley he needs to be fired. I also have only seen my surgeon one time since my surgery and I have had 5 appointments.
They have regularly rescheduled my appointments on me without notice. One time I made the hour long trip there only to be called 10 minutes prior to my appointment and told that they couldn't see me. They have no care in the world for your time and to be quite frank don't care about you. They provide provide ton of conflicting information from person to person.
Then when someone makes a mistake they will blame it on you and say you benefitted so you should not care that the mistake was made. They will not own the mistake they make and make things right. They will try to blame you and demean you and pressure you into letting it go. They also shared my health information with people who were not authorized over the phone. It literally could have been anyone and they had no concern and just gave the information out. Completely illegal and a joke. If I could give negative stars I would.

I had a sleeve gastrectomy in October. I chose Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians because they came recommended and they offered the most information and guidance pre surgery. Well before my first appointment I attended their information session and spoke to office staff who are extremely professional and helpful over the phone. I was private pay and out patient. I had my surgery at 7am and was home by 5pm. This surgery was life changing. I used Dr. Paulk.

If you have Medicaid be warned that you are on the bottom of the totem pole and they don't care for you as much as people who have private insurance. I started my paperwork in June and finished all my insurance qualifications in sept.(4 month supervised diet, labs, psychological evaluation, etc.) They told me the soonest I could get an appointment for just a surgical consult with the doctor was 6 months from when I finished all my insurance stuff.
It was not ideal but I was fine with it because I'm sure they were backed up from covid but I just got an email yesterday saying that they are no longer accepting Medicaid and I need to find another bariatric surgery center. I did all that work and spent 7 months for nothing and I'm very frustrated.

Rocky Mountain is amazing. They helped change my life. I had my VSG last year in June and have been very impressed by the staff and Dr. McKinlay. I am so grateful I was able to use Rocky Mountain as my doctors office. The classes they offer before surgery are very informative and they are there to answer any questions you may have. Madi is the BEST, she is always so excited for you and it is genuine. Lissa is wonderful as well. Thank you, thank you, thank you for helping me change my life.

I am so glad that I made the leap of faith and went to Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians and requested information about weight loss surgery. I had my gastric bypass (Ruen Y) done in November 2017, the work done by Dr. Rod McKinley, and 145 pounds later I am a walking billboard for the success of the work!
