STL Vision is the new name for a great practice that has been serving the Saint Louis Area as a laser eye center for more than 35 years. Originally founded in 1978 by Drs. Joan and Flavius Pernoud, the practice has been at its current location since 1990. While many things have changed during this time, our commitment to our patients has not.
Our CUSTOM CONTACT LENS SERVICE blends seamlessly into your visit here at STL Vision. Whether you are new to contacts or a long-time wearer, our team will help find the best lens to enhance your lifestyle and optimize your vision, all while checking to make sure the fit is correct to keep your eyes feeling great and in good health!
In the event that you need to cancel your appointment, kindly provide 24 hours notice. Your consideration in this matter will allow us to accommodate other patients who could benefit from an appointment. All co-payments and deductibles are due at the time of service. This includes payment for any surgical procedures, which is usually taken care of in advance.
In the case of an eye emergency you may reach the doctor on call by calling 314-351-0101. The call service will contact your doctor who will call you back. Non-emergent questions or routine medication refills are better handled during normal clinic hours. Vision insurance or vision plans may be purchased independently or offered as an added befit to complement your medical insurance similar to a dental plan. Vision insurance covers "routine checks" and often has defined benefits towards glasses and/or contacts.

My appointment was at 4pm. A young lady took me back to a room and took my information about why I was there, looked at my eyes, then put eye drops in my eyes and said the doctor would be in soon. After sitting in the room for awhile i kept hearing women laughing and having a good time, then it suddenly got quiet. After being in the room 40 minutes l thought they left and forgot me. I went out into the hall and started asking if anyone was there. Finally after 45 minutes the doctor finally showed up. NOT COOL!

Dr. Schell and his staff are so wonderful! They were flexible with my schedule when it came to making my appointment. I had a chalazion on my upper lid that I was dying to get rid of, and Dr. Schell was able to remove it the same day as my initial appointment. His surgical assistant was friendly and knowledgeable, and made me feel at ease throughout the entirety of my procedure. Thank you STL Vision!

Dr. Schell and his team are PHENOMENAL! Everyone in the office is incredibly kind and welcoming and the entire staff put you at ease. I had a fantastic experience all around - from the tech, to Emily Pike the optometrist to Dr Schell himself - everyone was exceedingly knowledgeable, professional, thorough, spends a lot of time with you to make sure all of your questions are answered, and very compassionate.
I am a physician myself - a dermatologist. My vision are my livelihood, and I have complete confidence and trust Dr. Schell as he is the best. Plus, I found a new pair of fabulous sunglasses in their extensive and beautiful optical shop. They are going to put prescription lenses in for me. I can't wait till they're ready! A huge thank you to Dr. Schell and all of the staff. It was a 100% A+++ visit. I HIGHLY recommend.

I had a very rare condition and after countless tests with many Dr's (over a 2 year period) I came in for a routine eye exam and Dr. Schell was the ONLY DOCTOR IN ST. LOUIS that was able to correctly diagnose and understand my condition (Idiopathic Intracranial Hytertension- a/k/a Pseudotumor Cerebri). Prior to Dr. Schell I had seen neurologists & neuro-ophthalmologists (who should have been able to diagnose me).
I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Schell's thorough examination and intuition. After my diagnosis I was then able to seek out neurologists at the UCSF medical center, underwent stent surgery, and was cured!

Our daughter was having blurred vision and headaches. She saw her primary care doctor several times as well as an Urgent Care doctor. Instructions were to go out for walks and not to read too much - told to a very active senior in her last 2 months of high school. Luckily, my niece is a neuroscientist. She insisted that blurred vision is a neuroligical issue and that we had to push her primary care doctor to do more.
He referred us to the ER to have testing done. After ruling out MS and other issues, the neurologists came into her room with research from Wikipedia! They had no idea what was wrong with her. One doctor finally recommended that an ophthalmologist see her. Dr. Schell saw her the next morning at 9am and by 10am we were in the neurologist's office after the two doctors had conferred. Dr. Schell had diagnosed my daughter with Pseudo-tumor almost immediately after evaluating her and her X-rays. Fluid causing pressure on her eyes and brain was removed by her neurologist. Had Dr. Schell not have been so knowledgeable and talented, she could have lost her eyesight. We are forever grateful for his care.

I am 77 yrs old. Cataract in rt eye. Dr. Schell told me he could get my 20/25 vision in that eye back to 20/20. Went in for procedure on 12/28/17. Everyone there is knowledgeable and courteous. Procedure took only 10 minutes. No pain at all. Went back this morning(12/29/17) for first checkup. 20/20 vision in rt eye. FANTASTIC. Dr. Schell is the best.

Working with STL Vision was the best vision experience I have had in the more than 10 years of wearing glasses. Dr. Schell was friendly, professional, and for the first time explained exactly what was going on with my eyes. I was considering surgery and he took the time to explain why that would not be my best option. I now have prescription sunglasses for distance and regular glasses for computer work. I have never seen better! I highly recommend going to STL vision.
