Flints lead medical center. I was born at Hurley and it's been our main hospital for years. Most recently, my mother had a medical procedure performed here. The faculties are up to date but the operations were lacking. My mom sat in pre op for her surgery for almost two hours because they had an emergency else where. Terrible communication. They even put me thru hell looking for an insurance card for a 9 dollar prescription. The hospital has come a long way but still has some growing to do.

I have had several experiences at Hurley. From childrens ER visit, PEDS dept, myself in ICU, ER and child birth. I have nothing but great things to say about this hospital and its staff. Only that I hope they get the respect and recognition they deserve. I feel privileged to live close to such a great facility.

Wife went to ER. Everyone was super friendly and professional. Dr. N.Valentine was the 1st doctor to actually prescribe my wife something to help with heart rate and tremors. It's working! We are truly grateful for this as the 1st step in a lengthy recovery process, but it took lots of visits to other hospitals to get to this point. Thank you for taking my wife seriously and providing her with a treatment plan to follow. She is able to sleep better and it has alleviated alot of her symptoms. Just be prepared people it's a very long wait at hospitals be patient and things will work out.

I want to Thank everyone who treated my Nephew at the Burn Unit in March of this year, he came in burned from a bonfire. We didn't know if he would make it. He fought hard, we will always be indeaded to the doctors and surgeons and nurses and staff who cared for Bobby, we prayed like we have never prayed for him and for you all. He is doing wonderful. Thank You so much.

Don't come here if you're a single parent without family/friends. They won't see you if you have children with you. What kind of emergency room denies assisting a person with an emergency and turns them away to suffer without treatment because they have their child with them? The receptionist I had the misfortune of meeting also had a horrible attitude and kept repeating the that my son wasn't welcome there and I needed to find someone to come get him every time I told her I didn't HAVE anyone to come and get him. She also kept calling my son a girl/she/her just because he has long hair.

We took my son here for Jaundice in January. The admittance procedure took quite a while, and he was due to eat, since at that point he was breast fed and eating every 2-3 hours. We got up to our room and immediately they got him under the lights, but he was screaming because he was hungry, the doctor kept asking questions (I understand they need to but maybe let me feed him first).
I could barely focus on her because I was tired, overwhelmed, and with every passing second more and more angry that they wouldn't let me feed my son. Then they needed to get blood for his bilirubin levels. Of course, they decided to do this while I was trying to feed him. The nurse who took his blood was all over the place and left blood smeared all over his feet and legs.
We had to stay two nights because they wanted to monitor his blood sugar because it was low when he was admitted. Yes, because he was supposed to eat every 2-3 hours and he was going on 5 during the admittance process. No wonder his blood sugar was low, he had no food in his body! At another point, I was talking to a nurse about my output and she scared me s***less because she told me, a new mother of a 4 day old, "oh no, you should be producing WAY more than that!" We did have two AWESOME nurses that I loved and would have absolutely lost my sanity without them.
I also did like how the pediatric unit was decorated and the menu was full of great food that I was able to get as a breastfeeding mother. But the rest of the visit was less than stellar. I will not be returning for anything. We much prefer Genisys, as both myself and my husband have received awesome care there.

I gave birth at Hurley in February of 2020. I was admitted in the morning on 2/6, gave birth at 10:21 on 2/6 and I was discharged late night 2/7 approx 11pm. It was by far the worst experience that I've had in a hospital. (This is my 3rd birth, first two were at McLaren Lapeer) During my labor, I felt extremely neglected and didn't get that great midwife experience that I had hoped for.
I had my membranes stripped several times during the beginning stages. I only consented once.but still had it done. I felt extremely violated. My epidural had to be attempted 5 times and the anesthesiologist blamed me for her troubles and it still didn't end up working properly. (I've had two other epidurals placed with no issues on the first tries during my previous births) I got asked to try hands and knees laboring position several times even though I insisted I didn't want to every single time.
I was pressured into going on each side and I was so uncomfortable I couldn't get back to my back to birth like my two previous pregnancies. My induction medication was not administered properly or as I was told it was going to be. I was denied different pain relief options for no reason. I get to recovery and I was right outside the nurses station where they were incredibly loud the entire night.
So I didn't get to sleep until around 10am the next day for 1 hour. My bathroom didn't have anything but mesh underwear and I had to ask for everything I needed. I asked for a hat for my baby since a nurse took it off during the test and they never brought me one. They asked me to collect urine and not a single nurse came to check or even asked about so I just dumped it out.
I was told I was going to get medication for iron that I never received and the nurse seemed bothered that I asked her to check on it and she never came back anyways. I went several hours without seeing a single hospital staff besides food service. Then when I finally did see a cna she came in my room without introducing herself and started checking my vitals and left without saying a single word.
I got treated so badly that I desperately want to leave so I left in the middle of the night as stated above. The birth experience of my last child was the worst out of all 3 of my children and completely ruined by the birthing staff at Hurley Medical Center. I truly recommend going anywhere else but here for your birth.

Worst doctors ever, how hard is it to treat someone with respect like another human being. Hurley doctors are rude and I honestly feel like they do not give a crap about their patients. Rude long wait for any kind of service, and then they just wanna shuffle you out, I've never felt such apathy from a hospital. I wish I could remember his name but they had one truly genuine staff member there who was very nice, and seemed to care everybody else treats you like cattle.

Terrible customer service, you wait hours upon hours only to have rushed service when you finally do see a doctor. Attempted to take my daughter in at 3:30am and the lobby was full of slumped over, half unconscious addicts. My daughter is 13 and couldn't even stand up as she was having sevier abdominal pains and the hospital will treat the addicts (one stating his foot hurt though he was stumbling around) before seeing a child crying in pain.
Unfortunately when my husband broke his back we had to go here. Same thing with waiting as the addicts are seen before actually emergencies. Spent TEN.yes, TEN hours at this facility and was in the presence of a medical professional totalling almost an hour. So basically 9 hours of wait time for an emergency. They said he had 4 fractures in his back but when we saw the specialist he had 11! How do you miss that many?!?! 0 out of 5 starts if I could

If I could give this hospital 0 stars I would. My dad sat in the ER for 3 going on 4 hours. He was never even taken to get his blood pressure looked at when he came in. The nurses were told he had recently had multiple seizures. Vomited and was unable to move well as when we found him he hadn't been out of bed in a week. They allowed MULTIPLE people to be seen to have the BASIC EXAM when you walk in that they didn't do for him.
They then left him sitting there while taking other people in the back telling us "they had absolutely no rooms." Also telling us we were capable of taking him anywhere else. He had a SEIZURE in the waiting room on my baby sisters lap and they FINALLY took him to the back saying "we have to make sure he's seizing" NURSES DO NOT CARE. THEY ARE NOT POLITE. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL. Despite someone yelling watching him seize the nurse did not get out of the chair until the SECURITY GUARD went to help. Then he finally got up to assist.

I've had to go to Hurley Urgent Care Burton several times now and I will keep going back. The office/front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. They handle check in quickly and efficiently. My wait time to be checked in and then called back to the exam room has always been minimal. The medical assistant Ty is wonderful. She handles taking vitals and charting quickly yet she is also thorough.
I like that she tells you what your vitals are as she takes them She's friendly and easy to talk to and shows genuine empathy for how you are feeling. Being an urgent care you rarely see the same dr. but I have been happy with all that have seen me except one. I didn't dislike his personality or method and i felt he was competent. What I didn't like was the feeling that he was rushing thru my exam.
Then he was so antsy that I felt too uncomfortable to ask any questions. However if you have a tree full of delicious apples there's bound to be at least one rotten one. You just don't let that one ruin all the good ones. So I will continue to go here if I need urgent care and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

This is a terrible facility. My son came in due to depression. He was not suicidal or harm to self or others, did not have suicidal ideations. He does have a h/o depression and is 22 years old and receiving professional treatment for 19 years. He was stressed due to college demands. A social work student came in and did an assessment. Later followed up by her "supervising" social worker, Jenni. Jenni indicated he needed immediate outpatient treatment.
We asked what our options were. She said there were no options. We asked what would be done in outpatient treatment and she replied it was up to the doctor's discretion. We told her we did not think it was necessary as we had therapists and psychiatrists that we were established with and that we would follow up the next morning. She then stated "you know we could admit him if the doctor decides to do so and I will give the Dr. my recommendation." within 30 minutes she arrived with our RN who stated the doctor certified that he needed to be inpatient.
We asked what our other options were and she stated there were no other options. The doctor never even looked at or talked to my son. Again, he has a longstanding h/o depression and he was not in crisis, not suicidal and he did not want to be admitted. We were told this was only option. Not even seen by an MD.

If I could give less stars I would. The first time I came here when passing a kidney stone, I waited for four hours and they didn't even have my information when I went and inquired about how long it would be. They had an addict flailing around on the floor, weren't doing anything to assist or help the scene. There was puke all over the floor and no one cleaned it up, not even a caution sign.
The second time I had to come to Hurley was when I having a severe allergic reaction to pineapple. They didn't get me anything until I was turning purple, and my significant other screamed at them to save my life. Never again will I ever go here.

Worst experience They took my remote for my tv and refused to give it to me. They ignored my dietary restrictions. They changed my room EIGHT times in the span of two days. They tried to take away my room phone. If they did, I would be stuck in a room alone with no family, no tv and no phone. I practically starved because they kept bringing me food I couldn't eat and when I would politely request for other options, they insinuated that I should be happy with what I got.

My daughter came thru ER and ended up being admitted with a severe kidney infection. We initially went to genesis but since the we were told the wait time could be up to 8 hrs and we had a child with 103 fever who extremely lethargic and in pain we left and came to Hurley. That was a blessing in disguise. Our wait time was minimal from being triaged, to having a bed in ER and then a room in Peds.
The drs were friendly and thorough and the care she got was amazing. Not to mention the things they have for peds to keep them entertained during their stay. Visit from a therapy pet, game room and visiting art supplies. My daughter was actually a little sad to leave. The only small issues we had were that I don't love that Peds ER closes at 2am and we had to switch to regular ER and there was one intern/resident during the actual stay that had no idea what she was talking about and argued with me when I questioned the fact that she was contradicting what the DOCTOR had said during his visit.
However when I complained I was quickly put in touch with the dr and we did not see that intern/resident again. I was satisfied with it being handled quickly and efficiently. I see a lot of reviews complaining about panhandling and lack of security, however in my many visits to Hurley as a patient or a parent of a patient and as a visitor I have never been approached by nor seen a panhandler close by and if it was late or dark security was more than willing to walk me to my car which is more than I can say for Genesis!
And don't think just because one is flint and one is Grand Blanc that either is safe for a woman walking thru the parking lot alone in the middle of the night. Our family will only go to Hurley as we prefer Drs and nurses and all other health professionals who are not know their job and are good at while but being considerate and compassionate over a "pretty" hospital.

I had to take my son in to the pediatric E.R. Let's start with the positives: 1. We were back within 5 minutes 2. Hospital was very clean 3. Doctors were extremely nice and knowledgeable 4. Nurses were nice and caring until the IV incident. Negatives: 1. No 24 hour pharmacy in the hospital or surrounding area. They won't send you home with any medication.
Even though my son needed medication at 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. they let us go home knowing we couldn't get the script filled. 2. The nurses were unable to get an IV in my 2 year old. 4 Nurses and they claimed they didn't have an IV team. I later found out that was a lie. If you're dying or in immediate need of a doctor then I would go here. If you can wait 10 more minutes then I would drive to one of the other hospitals.

After experiencing the ER room, Hospital Room and Pediatric Rooms personally, I do not feet this Hospital is very clean, I and my granddaughter had to wait for a room to be cleaned, which was spot cleaning. I noticed stuff on the doctors computer screen, the tv/phone changer was dirty, floors, and attending doctors did not seem to concerned with cleanliness either, when handling equipment and putting used items in garbage, instead of used tongue depressors left on tables. Also, after taking my granddaughter to pediatric unit with high fever, I took her to her primary care doctor, due to her not getting better, and her primary was surprised that Hurley had not done a chest xray, nor drew blood, due to her symptoms. Hurley needs to step it up! Don't tell me your overworked, I've been there three times and each of these times there is alot of socializing going on, with nurses and janitorial, seem to have alot of time on there hands.

I gave birth to my son here in 2007, I had no issues. So when I was expecting to have my daughter; I came here. Things have REALLY changed. My daughter ended up having to be here for over a week in ICU due to complications during my pregnancy so my husband and I of course stayed with her. There were multiple fights and arguments taken place in the parking lot, cops involved etc.
I did not feel comfortable being here but I had no choice now. I did not feel safe even walking to my car alone. Day or night. People now hang out in the parking lot bumping music, cruising around, and yelling at each other from across the parking lot. They are now lacking on service, and the place isn't that clean anymore like it used to be.

On 1/20/20/72 I had an in and out surgery. After the surgery I woke up assume I was in the recovery room in a daze people standing around assume was nurses. Struggling trying to come to my senses, I remember asking where i was and what happen. And remember one of the nurses say " she don't even know she had surgery". WOW! I was under anesthesia!
Why would you say something like that? You are a trained nurse don't you know this. Why didn't someone come to me and comfort me and tell me what was going on? instead, they was standing away like they didn't want to touch me. To my knowledge anesthesia leaves you confused and all afterwards. Well at least it left me confused. And when I started to feel pain one of the nurses threw a ice pack on my stomach as tho I wasn't already in enough pain, and walk away. Wow!
After that I woke up again in another room a nurse rushing me to get dressed she wasn't concerned about me standing or functioning on my own. I was barely awake. I stumbled in the bathroom fell trying to put on my clothes in a rush. I couldn't even remember the instructions she gave me, she was rushing so. WOW! terrible treatment! I hesitated so many times not to have this surgery done at Hurley.
I wanted to wait and have it done when I leave town but I believed that I was in good hands with Dr. Veena Kalra, Dr. TOO BAD CAN'T SAY THAT ABOUT HER ASSISTANCES! GOD FORBID IF I HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER SURGERY I WILL HAVE IT OUT OF STATE.

The treatment I received here recently was beyond bad. Finally had to leave AMA due to not being treated (for a traumatic injury (inc broken bones)) Disrespect at every level. 18 hours with no physician looking at my injuries. Surgeon refused to see me before surgery, nurse told me "I am off the clock" mid conversation and left the room! They tried to silence my demanding care by having security confront me twice. However, I was not cowed. Went to UM hosp after 18 hours here and was treated promptly and with respect. Hurley needs a major Culture adjustment.

I received terrible treatment during my visit here as a patient. My bill was screwed up later and I spoke to a very condescending woman (Loretta) from billing on the phone. The people in the ER didn't act appropriately or professionally toward me and this goes down as one of the most NEGATIVE experiences of my entire life, if not the most so.
I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. This is based on my PERSONAL CONSUMER EXPERIENCE as a patient. The ER isn't run either efficiently nor professionally as far as I'm concerned. I witnessed very disturbing and unprofessional behavior from the ER staff. The woman who drew my blood had no clue what she was doing, she left a HUMONGOUS bruise on my arm and scratched me with the edge of the needle. Hello?
When I complained, she completely just blew me off and claimed I am WHINY in a very loud voice. To top it all off, the diagnosis was wrong! Despite the recent upgrades, the parking lot for visitors and the parking structure are still not safe. I have been panhandled in the Hurley parking lot three times! Security was nowhere to be found, either.

Very good doctors and nurses. In the peds unit, if they come in while you are sleeping, they change your kids diaper but don't change his clothes or bedding if he spit up or made a mess. The cleanliness is very poor. IV carts haven't been cleaned in a while, the IV boxes have what look like snot smears on them. The benches by the window looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a month.
The public restrooms are decent, seem more clean than other areas. Just need maintenance in them, toilet paper holders falling off stall doors, one hinge broke on the door. Noticed that on the way to the cafeteria, there was a collection of spit on the windows that seemed to be collecting more and more without cleaning.

Cardiologist department: I had to take my daughter here to get a test done. First- I am not sure who was supposed to call me to give me all the info we needed to know ahead of time the hospital or her pediatrician but we never got a phone call stating when to arrive, that she can't eat 6 hours prior to the test, that she needed to be sedated for the test, etc I had to call and ask. Also- when we arrived to the appointment ontime (45 minutes before the appt to be sedated) they still hadn't gotten the rx from her ped. to get sedated so we had to make her wait to eat an extra hour and half before they got the rx and could take the test.
I wish that would have been done before the day we got there. Other than that the tech who helped us and the RN were very personable and friendly and the test itself was very short and easy. I just wish the beforehand stuff would have been done right!
