First appointment was OK. Second appointment for contact lens fitting was great! Mandy worked to find contacts that fit better and was able to improve my vision from the initial appointment of 20/40 to 20/20 in both eyes. Very happy. 5 stars for Mandy. Left rating of 4 stars as initial visit was adequate but not exceptional.

Over several years of visits I'm always impressed with the professionalism shown to me each time. My last visit no exception. I'm a patient of Dr. Sims but do see Dr. Lim et al at times. It is a pleasure to be greeted with a smile and processed thru another efficient appointment. Thank you a lot. Hugh Cochran

At the risk of writing a novel. I was diagnosed with glaucoma in 1977. Over a year ago I was told that the medications were no longer enough and was referred to Dr. Sims. Dr. Sims did some tests and gave me some options but to be honest I was reluctant and decided to continue medications and hope for the best. A year or so passed and I went to my original doctor to ask for a new prescription for glasses.
He did a full eye exam and again said I should see Doctor Sims. "She is the top glaucoma expert. Your glaucoma is too severe to rely simply on medication." Soon I was seen again by Dr. Sims and thankfully she agreed to do surgery. This surgery was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Every moment of the process was absolutely amazing. The facility has the most cutting edge equipment and the staff made me feel so comfortable and relaxed it had me questioning why on earth I had put this off.
A few days later they took me back for surgery and it was like being at a day spa. They put pillows under my head, pillows under my knees, and brought heated towels to place under each arm. I have never been so comfortable. Dr. Sims did two procedures on my right eye and talked me as things went along. She told me everything was going perfect and that she was switching equipment to do the second procedure.
Soon I was back at home wondering what it would be like when the eyepatch was removed. Tears welled up when the patch came off the very next day and I was able to make out an eye chart sitting across the room! The pressure in my right eye was now measuring just 8. It has been almost a week now and I am wondering if this is a dream. I am so grateful to Dr. Sims and her wonderful staff.
I could write for days in praise and thanks. I am looking forward to having surgery on my left eye. It is correctable to 20/400 at this point and I know the vision is mostly lost but am hoping to get totally off medications for the last part of my life. I am so very grateful

I had a great experience with Drs. Fine, Hoffman, and Sims. I was able to quickly get into the office for my annual eye exam. I was sent a link to complete the majority of my registration online. When I arrived I was greeted with a smile. I was promptly brought back and seen by a technician who was very knowledgeable and did very thorough testing.
After being dilated I was brought back to see Dr. Sims. She came in, examined my eyes, gave me my prescription for glasses and I was ready to go. While being very detailed in my exam, this office was very efficient. This is great for someone like me who lives a busy life. They also do a great job sticking to the CDC guidelines for social distancing. I will be a forever patient!

Wish I had read the reviews before booking an appointment. The historical reviews here are accurate. Whilst the staff is very 'nice' and friendly, they are wholly inefficient and ultimately unhelpful. They required (per policy, apparently, whatever that means) that I come in 3 times for a contact lens prescription. Never over multiple years of wearing contact lenses and going to multiple offices have I had to ever go back to be checked. Trials are provided at the time of check up, measurements are taken and maybe you wear for a week or 2 to make sure all is good before you place a full order.
They refused to give me a trial pair with the new prescription insisting that their policy is that I wear a brand with the old prescription first (why?) how am I supposed to assess if my sight is compromised. Sigh.taking my business elsewhere Also side note, they dilated my eyes and told me that I should be careful driving. They did not tell me that before the appointment.
It was a bright sunny day and even with sunglasses I had great difficulty seeing after the appointment for several hours. It was frankly dangerous for me to drive home. Seems like a policy issue to not warn of this before the appointment or at time of application.

Very friendly staff. Dr. Sims came in my room, didn't say HELLO. I mentioned I was there due to my double vision. Dr. Sims told me to continue to use the meds for my generative. And that my eye sight had not changed since the last visit. I have not been in for years, to my remembrance. I asked about my double vision and was told the prescription would take care of it. i asked how bad it was.
Again was handed and told the prescription would fix the problem. Dr. Sims got up and walked out. I called the office and explained my concern, and asked someone to call me to explain my complaint. No one has called.

We went to Fine Hoffman and Sims because we had seen their TV commercials portraying them as the leading ophthalmologists. Unfortunately, our experience has not been good. Dr. Hoffman was very arrogant and cold. He walked in, plainly introduced himself, examined me, very impatiently answered or dismissed my questions, then he was out of the room. The front desk staff members also appear incompetent.
They always seemed so busy. The wait time was very long before and after checking in. Whoever helped me check in got my insurance wrong. I had to call later to correct it. When we received their bills, I had to call four times to pay the bill. Because every time I called, they would put me on hold - first time, they hang me up; second time and third times they put me on hold forever - over 10 minutes and I hang up. Fourth time I finally told them I just want to pay the bills. They seem so ancient that you can only mail the payment or call them to pay.

I just moved to the Florence a little over a year ago. I thought it might be more convenient to have an Opthamologist close to where I live. It's a bit of a drive to Eugene for short appointments. I knew no one locally for medical referrals. The technician was great. Very personable, answered questions, efficient and knowledgeable, so she gets all 3 of the stars but deserves more. Dr. Hoffman probably said less than 10 words to me the whole time, even when I tried to ask a question or two.
I felt like I was on a conveyor belt and he seemed bored or distracted. But I didn't feel any connection, nor obviously did he to me. Hey, I am a person sitting in front of you. I felt more like a "number" to count down on his schedule. Maybe he just had a bad day or maybe he is man of very few words. His pictures show him smiling broadly. I didn't even recognize him from the photo.

I had an occlusion in my eye a couple of years ago. They should have referred me to a retinal specialist for imaging back then, but Dr. Hoffman chose a "wait and see" approach. I started getting giant floaters last October. He said they'd go away, but they didn't. In early April, I awoke one morning and could not see out of that eye at all, Again, he took me off my blood thinners and said we should wait for it to clear.
He shrugged off any questions about it. Week after week, it didn't get much better. I finally had enough. I asked him for a prognosis of how long would my vision be impaired. This made him angry. He said that he was referring me to a retinal specialist so I could "go and complain to him." He made no attempt ay reasonable communication, but had a surly attitude.
He said the specialist would want to aspirate my vitreous humor and that would be bad for the cataract there. The specialist I saw appeared concerned that no one had done any imaging of that eye since the occlusion. He was able to diagnose the bleeding and treat it right there in his office that day. It was a simple injection and takes a month to fully work. I could have had this treatment last year if I had been referred. Skip the flashy commercials and find a different place than this!

I had my eyelids done a few years ago and I couldn't be happier! The Doctors go above and beyond to make sure the aftercare is exceptional. I had a problem after surgery because of a previous eye issue and it made the eyelid surgery a bit more complicated but the care I received after hours was amazing! Dr Hoffman even left The Hult to meet me at his office at 10:30 that evening. Exceptionally carrying and committed staff as well! Thank you

I ended a 15 year professional relationship with Dr. Annette Chang Sims at Dr's Fine, Hoffman and Sims due to her abusive and trauma inducing treatment of me once I was diagnosed with cataracts and glaucoma last year. I still have trauma around how cold and uncaring she was and after such a long term relationship. The clinic was willing to lose my business and our long term relationship rather than address her behavior and have her apologize to me.
Her technicians said was quite 'normal' behavior for her, once she tells a patient they need surgery. She goes into 'surgery mode' they said and is very direct, impatient with any questions you might have or concerns. She seemed to get joy from making me feel dumb for asking questions. I was 49 years old and scared and she was not willing to answer any basic questions for me without giving snarky, rude and uncaring responses.
I was so upset I BAWLED in the parking lot twice before deciding this woman could not operate on me. I no longer trusted her to do her job based on her abusive behavior, actions and words towards me. I have since pulled my entire families eye care from her clinic and will NEVER do business with her again. I STILL a year later have a trauma response from how I was treated and how uncaring the clinic in general was over the experience. Please, do not subject yourself or your loved ones to her abuse.

So very disappointment to hear about the poor customer service from staff and billing staff. It absolutely deterred me from scheduling appointment for possible Cataract Surgery. My friend was manipulated into scheduling an appointment before it was required and now has a huge bill because it was performed 6 weeks too early. She was told that they see too many patients to worry about an individuals insurance requirements.

My experience was much the same as a few others, tech performed 100%of my exam with Hoffman peeping in for the back of eye look. He did not confirm my rx He was preparing to immediately leave afterwards when I asked him what all the codes meant. I felt dismissed by his comment, "just things I saw in back of your eyes." I could go on but I think you'll get the picture. I'm vulnerable to loosing my eye sight and I do t think this facility are the ones I want. No compassion. Aside note the faculty is crowded and not that professional. It felt more like a factory

Methinks so. I'm mostly just disappointed. The service at the exam was good, prescriptions accurate, and the staff friendly. The trouble began with the bill. The young woman who checked my wife in seemed distracted (hey, we all have a bad day), and we feared she wasn't going to bill our primary AND secondary insurance. Sure enough, when we got the bill, only ONE insurance company had been contacted.
I called, spoke to someone, they said the second insurance would be billed and someone would call me back. The following month, got a bill, still no secondary insurance was billed. I called, spoke to Taylor, she said she'd see that it was billed properly, and someone would call. This month, good news, didn't get a bill, bad news, we got a note from a collection company!
My wife called and was told by Fine, Hoffman and Sims that "its out of our hands, now that it's gone to collection." I called the office, was transferred to "accounting" and it rang for several minutes and no one picked up, no voice mail. I called right back, it rang and rang, and I got the "we're closed now" message. Odd, since I'd just spoken to someone there.
I called back, the system hung up on me. I called again, was told it was "Jennifer" that I needed to talk to "and she's right here." Was then transferred to "Jennifer's" voice mail! I left a long and detailed message, with the details above, asked them to get us out of collection, and please dear lord bill the secondary insurance, and call my wife and let her know that you've done that. Hopeful, but not holding my breath. Exam great, prescriptions accurate, staff friendly, it's accounting that's the nightmare.

Dr. Sims and her staff are very helpful and friendly. I came to them last year after my previous eye doctor stopped conducting contact lens exams and I wish I had made the change sooner. They caught errors that my previous doctor had missed and were very knowledgeable and efficient. When I moved, they ensured that my contacts were shipped to me in just a few days. I definitely recommend seeing them!

I myself have been seen here and took my son. They were ok with me, not super impressed but once I took my son in. I'll NEVER be back. They were so rude with him, he was nervous and doing this for the first time and they didn't help make him more comfortable. They have no repartee with kids. They were actually kinda rude to him. If they were the only eye dr in Eugene/Springfield south of Portland I'd WALK to Portland before coming back here.

I have seen Dr Annette Sims twice, some time apart. The first time I saw her--after an assistant had run all the usual eye dilations and other tests--Dr. Sims came in with me, did not approach me, and sat down at the computer desk. She was rather abrupt, so I didn't feel I could ask many questions. Then she was gone. She couldn't have been in with me for more than 5 minutes.
The second time I saw her, my experience was even worse. She rushed in, and this time I had come prepared with a list of questions. Her body language was tense and she was again abrupt in her manner. I asked her all my questions at once, which she requested me to do rather than going over them one at a time. Some of her answers satisfied my questions, but some did not and seemed rather vague.
She seemed impatient to the point of almost being hostile, and it was clear she wanted to be out of there. Obviously, I will not be visiting her again. Twice was more than enough.

I was pretty disappointed by my visit. I originally went in for a routine glasses/contact exam and made a note that I needed the back of my eyes checked (a side effect of medication I was on). I have always had this done with every routine eye check but the receptionist told me I HAD to get a medical eye exam this time, which she said was like the routine but more in depth, and my vision coverage should cover it the same.
When I went back to the room they explained that I would not be getting a new script that day as for billing purposes it had to be done on different days. I never would have made the appointment with this place then and I would have gone to a regular optometrist because now I have a $65 copay for a medical visit and no new script either. To top it all off, although the assistant was very lovely, she did 90% of my exam. Dr. Sims rushed in, barely spoke to me, looked behind my eyes and left.
I didn't even have time to ask her any questions. I am not exaggerating when I say Dr. Sims was maybe in the exam room for a whole three minutes before sprinting out. I ended up canceling my follow-up appointment for a new script with Dr. Sims and I'm glad I did.

I've been to see Dr. Hoffman many times now, and had a laser procedure as well. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Hoffman and his staff. However, the very best part of this office is the front desk receptionist. She is always ready with a smile and a greeting that makes the visit pleasant. The check out staff is also very good. If you have to deal with eye problems, this is the place to go. Thanks, Dr. Hoffman.

These are the best medical professionals I've ever been in contact with! The office staff are wonderful folks along with Dr. Sims. They were so kind and thorough. The very best eye exam I'd ever received and they had amazing state of the art equipment. If you need a new eye doctor, these are the people to contact for sure. Thank you so much!
