Vertebral discs are the spinal column's shock absorbers. The discs cushion the vertebral bones and allow the spine to twist and bend. Vertebral discs are composed of two main parts, a soft inner nucleus (nucleus pulposis) and a tough, fibrous outer wall (annulus fibrosis). As the herniation pushes out of the disc wall, disc material may press against the large nerve roots.
One cause of cervicalgia is gravity: your head can weigh ten pounds or more. Keeping your head erect for nearly every waking moment puts enormous stress on your neck muscles. The strain alone can cause muscle fatigue. Another cause stems from your neck's flexibility: Sudden movements can injure muscles that heal slowly due to the constant strain.
A Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection is a Pain Management procedure used for treating Cervical Radiculopathy or neck pain and radiating shoulder and arm pain.
