Bastian Voice Institute: Richardson Brent Earl We provide the highest quality medical, surgical, and behavioral care and consideration for persons with voice, swallowing, and airway disorders. Our primary concern is patient care, supported by ongoing educational activities and research projects. Cancer in the larynx is a malignant growth or tumor caused by abnormal and uncontrolled cell division.

R-CPD occurs when the upper esophageal sphincter loses its ability to relax in order to release the "bubble" of air. SD is a non-life-threatening neurological disorder in which the muscles of the larynx involuntarily spasm and interfere with the voice.

We are located in Downers Grove, in the Highland Landmark III building, mile north of Good Samaritan Hospital and just south of highway 88, on the northeast corner of the intersection of Highland Avenue and 31st Street. Our building is tall and greenish with "Dupage Medical Group" written on the top and, as seen from Highland Avenue.
My name is Elizabeth and I've just recently discovered a lot of your info on R-CPD! It's something I've suffered with my whole life and I'm so excited to know there's a name and treatment for it. I live in TN and haven't been able to find any doctors near me that know what the condition is or will take me seriously when I speak on my struggle with it.

I had to give 1 star and i did not want to do that if I could do a negative star I would. I was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer in July called chondrosarcoma of the cricoid cartilage. Saw Dr Richardson in August. First appointment was on a Thursday which went very well we thought. Very professional and informative. The next appointment was the following Tuesday to go over the ct scan that was taken in the hospital. Got there at 315 appointment was for 330. Did not see him until 5pm for him to tell us the same info that he gave us the previous appointment!

Since i was the last appointment they could have at least called me to and tell me to come later since they were running behind. At this time he also told us we needed to learn how to take out my trach and clean it and this needed to be done weekly. Well according to the other Drs I have seen since then this is totally INCORRECT! He wanted us to come back for the dr assistant to show us how to do this.

Well the prescription that he gave me to get a new trach did not have something on it that was needed for the insurance to pay for it. My home medical supply company had tried to reach out to the office to get the info that was needed 4xs and they never got back to them the script was then voided. I called the office myself in the am the girl that answered the phone assured me she would take care of it.

At 3pm in the afternoon there was still nothing faxed. Dr Richardson said the surgery i would have to remove most of the mass would be out patient and would only be 20 minutes. I thought i was being pushed to the side and the major thing here was money. There is more to this but it is just too much. I have since gone to Loyola for a 2nd opinion. I have seen 3 Drs along with John Hopkins pathology report and all of them said the whole mass needs to be removed otherwise it will grow back. And the Dr had the pathology report so he knew. I do not recommend anyone to go here at all!

If you are a singer, either professional or (like me) semi-professional, there can be no doubt that the MDs at Bastian are the absolute best to treat medical problems for vocalists. I am a journalist by profession, but I have been a lead-singer in a music band ever since high school (40 years ago). When I developed hoarseness in my voice that just did not go away, my primary care physician referred me to a (general) Ear-Nose-Throat doctor, who recommended surgery to remove the polyp seen on one of my vocal cords.

I wanted a second opinion, and sought out Bastian, which specializes in treating singers --and is part of the United Health Care network. The doctor (and surgeon) who treated me, Dr. Rebecca Hoesli, was simply fantastic! She had treated many professional vocalists previously (including opera singers) and did a wonderful job with my diagnosis (--I had what's called "overdoer syndrome") and surgery --which was 100% successful!

I'm now back to singing in my band at clubs and everyone tells me my range and vocal quality is even better than before my injury. I should also thank the Vocologist who performed my post-op speech therapy, Linda Dykstra, who identified what I'd been doing wrong previously, and who helped me re-learn how to sing properly. Bastian Voice Institute is wonderful, and I highly, highly recommend them. (Also, as a side note, I should say that their Waiting Room is the most pleasant, comfortable waiting room of ANY medical facility I've ever been in, for my entire life! Subdued lighting, ultra-comfortable chairs, couture light fixture lamps and wall art, and pleasant classical guitar music playing in the background. Best waiting room ever!)

I took my daughter to the Bastian Voice Institute to be treated for her lifelong struggle with retrograde crycopharangeus dysfunction (R-CPD). This is a very rare condition, and very few doctors in the country are aware of it. We chose to go travel here from Colorado because Dr. Bastian pioneered the treatment for this condition. From beginning to end, our experience was excellent.

The office staff was very helpful and welcoming, Dr. Hoesli took the time to listen and understand our concerns, and the staff at the day surgery center was also great. It's a little unnerving to travel halfway across the country for medical treatment during a pandemic, but our experience was nothing less than wonderful. I would highly recommend the Bastian Voice Institute, and Dr. Hoesli, to anyone.

Very disappointed with how my husband's most recent visit was handled. He's been here 3 times and provided decent care overall, but probably not worth the extra cost versus going to an ENT for him. However, during his last visit the doctor was running over an hour late and no one notified my husband, not even a phone call. We live 45 minutes away and he got there and had to wait.

Even while he was waiting no one came to let him know about the delay. I understand delays at doctor's offices, but have the courtesy to let the next patient know! Neither the office nor the doctor were apologetic. And on top of that the visit only lasted 5 minutes with nothing outstanding that you would think a place like this would provide. Due to the delay my husband hit traffic on the way home and was late picking up our kids from daycare, as I couldn't leave my work to get them.

I'm sure most people know that if you come past the last pick up time, the daycare will charge you extra. I complained to Bastian that now on top of their bill I have an added daycare bill. THEY DID NOT CARE! I asked if any discount could be applied to our out of pocket to offset the extra cost and I was given an excuse that insurance would find out so they could not do that.

I've had other doctor's offices give patient discount to out of pocket cost with no questions asked when the bill is a large amount. The clinic manager Kyle said he would talk to the doctor and get back to me. Instead of having the decency to call me back, I receive a letter in the mail saying they can't do anything about personal expenses. This place is only about the money in their own pockets. Find a place where people actually care about how hard other's work for their money.

I've worked in healthcare for over a decade. I've never met a physician as caring as Dr. Robert Bastian. I was moved to tears by how passionate he was about curing my rare condition (R-CPD.) He took the time to educate me and answer all of my questions. He did not rush me. He always had a smile on his face. The day of surgery, he met me with a grin and told me how excited he was to get me some relief.

Within 24 hours, I am belching for he first time in my life. His dedication to my rare, obscure disorder is incredible. He took the time to explain the outcome of the procedure to my driver. I am forever grateful for the wonderful, wonderful care I received here. I speak for everyone on r/noburp when I say "thank you Dr. Bastian for your dedication, compassion and warmth." Would never consider referring someone anywhere else. Of importance, office building is beautiful and office space is incredibly inviting, warm and clean. Cannot recommend enough.

From my first contact with Tiffany at the Bastian Voice Institute to inquire about scheduling an appointment for R-CPD, communication was handled flawlessly. All necessary paperwork was sent via email, and my consultative appointment and outpatient surgery were scheduled on back-to-back days to accommodate me since I would be coming from out of state. Costs were clearly disclosed up front, and my wait time on the day of the appointment was very minimal. Dr. Bastian is one of the very best doctors I have ever encountered.

He is extremely kind, patient, and compassionate. He listened, explained everything very well, and never seemed rushed to get to the next patient. For pioneering an effective treatment for R-CPD, he is my savior! I am so used to substandard medical care and being herded in and out as quickly as possible; my experience with the BVI showed me what it's like when patients are treated as humans instead of numbers.

Dr. Bastian is one of the only doctors in the world who is able to perform a procedure that can cure Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction, or the inability to burp. He is also continuing research and curing patients of this horrible condition that impacts their everyday life. Dr. Bastian's office and staff are extremely professional and after 2 visits I was completely cured of my condition. They truly changed my life and I am forever grateful for what they have done. If anyone is suffering from the inability to burp, he is your savior.

All the staff at every step was so professional. I felt so comfortable and understood and knew I was in good hands. From scheduling to procedure to follow-up. This clinic is simply amazing. I can burp now and my life is forever changed. I eat and drink what I want and when I want. I wear what I want. After all these years, I am finally feeling better.

It still feels too good to be true. Thank you Dr. B for everything you have done for me and so many others. Kyle, Carol, Melissa and all others, thank you so much. I have referred others with r-cpd symptoms and will continue to do so. I had such a wonderful experience with Bastian Voice Institute.

I learned of Dr. Bastian's office from /noburp on Reddit - if anyone reading this is from the same community, know that you've come to the right place. The morning of my procedure, I began reading some of the reviews and admittedly got a bit nervous. What I experienced with Dr. Bastian and his staff was as far from the negative reviews as possible.

I was met with outstanding hospitality, professionalism, and expertise at each step in my process. I am nearing one year out from my procedure and could not recommend it enough. Full recovery and turnaround from previous condition. Easily the best $600 I've ever spent.

I was treated by Dr. Bastian for a disorder with my esophagus. I have nothing but GREAT things about Dr. Bastian. After a short wait in his office, he greeted me and instantly made me feel at ease with his bedside manner and professionalism. He took the time to explain the disorder, the procedure, and answer all of my questions. He struck me as a doctor who truly cares about his patients. Yes, a very unpleasant test with a scope that goes in your nose and down your throat may be required, but Dr. Bastian made even this part of my visit as comfortable as possible for me. This procedure has been life changing, and I'm thankful I found him.
