I underwent surgery at Stamford hospital and had the pleasure of recovering on the 10th floor. My amazing, compassionate, supportive nurses (Dawn, Lauren, Winston and my aides). I kept trying to figure out how they managed to make me feel like their only patient. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. This all started with the incomparable Dr. Bonheur. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

As a lifelong resident of Stamford I have watched the hospital system undergo a complete metamorphosis in the past 50+ years. They boast about how good they are and cajole 'best ratings on this and that' but the reality is that yes, the facilities are new and plush but the quality of care has diminished dramatically. They have swallowed almost all medical care into enormous hospital systems across the country and so there is no longer any independence or personalized care.
What good is a Patient Bill of Rights that can be changed at the whim of the corporation? Every single person in the system toes the same 'line' and you get 'cookie-cutter care' at best. The nursing staff is good but administration (from caseworker straight up to the top) is terrible. If you are scheduling elective surgery or any non-emergency care where you can choose a hospital that may be further away I'd urge you to consider other options.

I had laparoscopic surgery for five incisional hernias on Friday. I was given no pain medication in recovery other than a muscle relaxant, despite being in excruciating pain. I had to actually plead with the nurse to give me something to control the pain, which she did at the last possible minute. Even though I was clearly in very rough shape and a good deal of pain they rushed to get me out of there. Unfortunately, that was only the BEGINNING of my bad experience.
The surgeon's office had called in a prescription for Oxy to my local pharmacy, to be picked up when I returned home. When I explained to the nurse that I couldn't take Oxy (because of a prior bad reaction) they revised the script and made it for Dialudid. When my husband went to pick up the script at CVS, however, it was for Oxi, because the hospital had not cancelled the original prescription.
By now it was 8:30pm, I had no pain medication, and was in terrible pain. The next morning I called the on-call surgeon to get the prescription corrected and was told there was "nothing he could do" and I should just take the Oxi. I then spoke with a nurse from the Stamford PACU (who was lovely and tried to be helpful) and she connected me with a surgical resident, who called the CVS to correct the script.
I offered to return the Oxy because I had not taken any and would not be taking it. Then the pharmacy, realizing I had already picked up the Oxy, called my surgeon's office and the on-call surgeon told them to cancel the order for the Dialudid! When I called the hospital back I was told there was nothing that could be done because I had picked up the Oxy, even if I was willing to return the pills.
I was in so much pain through all of this and truly stunned at the ridiculous game of telephone, and the attitude of not one but multiple surgeons that I should "just take the Oxi", despite being very clear that I had a prior negative reaction to that particular med. My husband called the PACU nurse again and eventually they were able to call in a script for Dialudid.
It easily took 8 phone calls and HOURS to get this resolved, while I was in excruciating pain. I will never go back to Stamford Hospital for ANY procedure, or test. I have cancelled all upcoming appointments with physicians at Stamford and re-booked appointments at a different health system. This was a stunning example of physicians not listening to their patient, not communicating with each other, and taking a very cavalier attitude about pain management.

Worst ER ever. I waited 5 hours to see the doctor! No one cares about you! All you hear that they are busy! If you are so busy, hire more staff! Front desk employee should be fired! She has an attitude like she is doing you a favor! WTF happened to customer service here? If you can, go to Greenwich or Norwalk Hospitals

I am writing this review on behalf of my grandma who had an exceptional experience at Stamford Hospital. She was recently in with my grandfather who had taken a fall, and the team made a very scary situation so much more manageable. She wanted to specifically mention Dr. Lanacone who had the most incredible bedside manner and took such great care of them.
He constantly checked in and made sure they were comfortable, and explained every test and part of the process so they could understand. I cannot overstate how much we appreciated his care, and I had to let everyone know there is such wonderful team at Stamford Hospital! We would recommend it wholeheartedly!

Horrible service. I went in there due to depression and anxiety. The guards come and go thru my stuff which has never happened before. As he's taking out my stuff I keep saying can I see what you're doing because I've had stuff taken from me before in this hospital. Then they said they're gonna lock my stuff up in a locker. They counted 73.00, I came home with 27.00.
And the Patient Relations Person Meghan basically accused me of lying. And get this, they stole my Xanax too because I have horrible anxiety. Stamford hospital will sweep it under the rug. She claims she spoke to the ppl who were in the room with me and they all said no, I mean damn Meghan, did u expect them to say yes we did it. Please stay away from his horrid, wretched hospital.
Even the security guards are rude and suspect AF. I have to now file a police report because of this. The tech Chi Chi didn't even write down on the form that my medication was in my bag because the thieving ass bitch knew she planned on stealing it. How is it that you write down everything that's in my bag but my medication. Thief! And Stamford hospital, shame on you for covering this up. There's cameras all over that damn hospital and you mean to tell me that the locker room where they place ppls belongings is the only place with no camera. That's a thieves paradise, but Karma is a bitch Ms Chi Chi, u and that dusty ass ashy ass security guard.
I can only imagine how many ppl you've done this too. I hope you choke on that same medication you stole from me and expire bitch! And patient relations, I don't appreciate you accusing me of making this up! I've spoken to higher ups and my story never changed. Shame on you! You're just as bad as that thief is. Go to Norwalk or Greenwich folks, Stamford only hires thieves. Chi Chi you're a pill popping disgusting thieving ass bitch and I Hope that your karma is SWIFT.

Horrible experience with the Blood Draw Station on Long Ridge Road. I called in the morning to make sure they received my doctor's fax for bloodwork and was told they were too busy to check. I ended up calling again from work and was told to stop by, however when I went in at 4:53pm the woman told me I was too late despite their hours being listed as 8-5.
Apparently if you need to have bloodwork, you have to get there at 4:30 or they won't see you, which should be on the door and on the website so you don't waste your time. Huge disappointment and poor service, don't go here.

I went to Stamford Hospital for a pulmonology appointment. I gave my insurance and paid my copay, they then told me to have a chest X-ray before my appointment. I had not yet met with a doctor and they made no mention of additional charges beyond the co-pay. 3 weeks later I get two separate bills from two separate Stamford Health businesses, one for over $400.
I made calls to both and received no explanation or help from the billing departments, both of whom referred me to the doctor's office. After being told that I need to speak to billing I explained the situation. The "gentleman" I spoke to said he would ask his supervisor. Then without coming back on the line he transferred me back to billing so I could hold for another half hour. If you can get medical treatment anywhere else I recommend it.

Stamford Hospital needs to work on everything with how they are handling the administration of the Covid Vaccines. After hearing about Stamford Hospital administering vaccines my sister and I scheduled appointments for my mother and father this past Sunday with out issue. She is 73 and my father 90. Upon registration, my mother was told that she did not meet the age requirement of 75.
I initially did not protest and asked my mother to wait in the car as I didn't want her exposed. I then asked if there was any way they could administer for my mother as well because she is older and has pre existing condition as a diabetic. The registration lady was nice enough to let me know that they did not make the final say on exceptions and that the nurse may be able to make an exception, and it be okay to bring my mother upstairs to try.
So I called my mom to come back in and we went upstairs. We were greeted by two nurses administering the vaccines and I explained the situation. She says she will try speak with someone to get an approval and would be right back while they got started on my father. (I am also translating for my parents who are Chinese, while this is all going on.) Then the nurse brings another managing nurse back to tell me in a very rude fashion, that they would not be making an exception for my mother today and she doesn't care if she has pre existing conditions.
I asked her why and what determines an exception? And she just starts waving her hands in my face telling me to just stop. And at this point I had done nothing other than question her. So I asked her to please get me a supervisor or someone who can explain to me when exceptions are made, because I was sent up her by the registration lady and was told it is possible.
She leaves abruptly and says "I'm not dealing with this". I go back to my father to translate his medications to the nurse and am pulled back out of the room by the managing nurse who returned with another staff member. They pull me to the side and proceed to threaten me with fines up to $10,000 for lying about my mothers age on the appointment, which is not true, because all of her information was entered to make the appointment.
But that's besides the point. Rather than professionally trying to deescalate the situation, or even just asking me to leave, this Karen escalates the entire situation and brings one of her colleagues over to try and intimidate me because I'm asking questions about who gets an exception to get the vaccine. Of course this set me off. Trying to intimidate me into silence? Seriously?
They escalated the situation and then had me escorted out by security. No joke, my parents are frightened and confused at this point. This was completely unnecessary because I wasn't even refusing to leave. We were actually on our way out when security got there. My anger comes from the fact that they told me to bring my mother all the way there, exposing herself in the process.
I had already conceded at registration and the lady told me to bring her back upstairs and ask, so I went back. Its a circus in there. I know many people that have made appointments, not met the criteria and received the vaccine, I still don't know why exceptions are made. I guarantee is you go through their vaccine records, it will be littered with people well below the age of 75 and are not essential workers. Maybe there is a shortage in vaccines because you have nurses like her, giving vaccines out to people at her own discretion instead of people who actually need it.

This hospital could care less about your questions or concerns, especially if it's for your own health. I have been to this hospital multiple times expected to be treated fairly but 80% of the staff here would try to avoid talking to you or giving you answers. I can't express how frustrating it is to be in this hospital and all it seems to want is your money, I already ended up in collections because of the amount of random charges they made for me. This hospital will make it difficult for you to get your answers and for you to leave without a huge bill hanging over you regardless of insurance.

I just want to highly recommend the crew in the non-invasive Nuclear Medicine Department; Kate Kobell, Mustapha, and James. My stress test was much less "stressful" because of their great clinical work. They were pleasant and welcoming. My anxiety about the test disappeared and that allowed me to focus on the treadmill. I would also suggest not watching YouTube before this procedure.
The video I saw made me almost cancel the test. Kate and Mustapha make a great pair and James encouraged me to do my best on the treadmill. Thank you again to a great team of Health Care Workers at Our city's hospital. Stamford Hospital.

A really great hospital! Located close to Downtown Stamford, this hospital is essential to the surrounding community. you can tell it's brand new and that there was a lot of thought put into the design of the floors. There is a conference room on each floor for the staff to use. A few rooms have extra private rooms for family to stay overnight in and keep youthe company.
The views from the windows overlooking the rest of Stamford are breathtaking. The entrances can be confusing as the Er entrance is on one side and the main entrance along with valet parking are on the other side. The cafeteria is actually the most confusing place to find I'm this hospital because it is located in what used to be the "old" hospital so unless you have been there many times before you can get lost.
The easiest place to get food while in the new hospital is from the cafe downstairs in the lobby, Freshii's, located right next to the gift shop. The staff is very friendly and patient and this is a great hospital to be a patient at!

Yesterday I was seen in the ER for potential appendicitis, the hospital staff was very efficient upon my arrival all procedures were taken for my safety as well as theirs. I had the pleasure of being treated by LP Vanie Mangal let me just say she was amazing from start to finish. I never had the pleasure of meeting the nurse assigned to me but Vanie Mangal made sure I was completely taken care of. Thank you Vanie Mangal you are truly 1 in a million

If you have a choice, pick another hospital. I lived a block away from the Stamford Hospital and when it came time to choose a place to give birth I drove 20 minutes farther to a different hospital because I was terrified that I would receive poor service at the Stamford Hospital. I went to the ER at the Stamford Hospital with stomach pains. It took a while but they finally thought that I might have an abnormal presentation of appendicitis.
They told me they were going to check it out laparoscopically and if they were right they would take out my appendix. The surgery itself went well but it took hours for me to get my question answered of "did I have appendicitis?" and "did they remove my appendix." Hours. Many nurses and many residents later they finally tracked someone down that knew what surgery had been performed on me.
Then I was discharged with the instructions to make an appointment to see my surgeon in a week's time to verify that I was doing okay and my stitches were healing. And also to discuss pain management. Great in theory, but I never got the name of my doctor and when I called to make an appointment per the hospital's instructions, I kept getting routed to a bunch of operating services.
I finally just gave up and went to my primary physician. My husband had his own issues with the Stamford Hospital that made us regret that we hadn't driven the 20 minutes to be seen at a different hospital. When giving us part of my husband's diagnosis, it was done as a "drive-by" by a resident that had thought the doctor had come it to talk to us already.
When he realized he was breaking news to us for the first time he apologized and ran out, leaving us bewildered and worried, waiting for hours for my husband's doctor to stop by and give us further information. It seems like they are just really bad at communication. Having three hospital stays at two different hospitals after my experience at the Stamford Hospital, I now realize just how important communication between hospital staff and their patients are and how much better other hospitals are at providing timely and accurate information.

NOTE: This is for HSS Stamford only. My Mom needed to have a knee replaced, and turned to HSS at Stamford Hospital. They are "embedded" on the Fifth Floor, where everyone is focused on one thing: joint-related surgeries, such as for knees, hips, feet, etc. This makes for a perfect hospital experience. The waiting room, operations, recovery, nursing stations and hospital rooms are ALL on one floor.
This is brilliant and great for the patients. Also, everyone was amazingly nice, helpful, and extremely attentive. In fact, I have to say it was one of the best experiences I've had at a hospital. It was better than Barnes Jewish in St. Louis, Columbia-Presbyterian, NYU, Beth Israel, and others. This was definitely the best. But again, this is only for HSS Stamford. Also, the hospital is brand new, and the floor was less than half full--or so it seemed.

I drove a 7 year old to the ER today with what was obviously a serious break. Seeing him on the side walk I could tell he broke both bones in his foreman. Phone in hand I told his mother she should call 911 for an ambulance but that I could drive them there in less than 8 minutes. We were at the close point where an ambulance could double/triple the actual travel times But provide more care. she asked me to drive and I obliged.
We waited 20 minutes this was after I dropped them Off at the door and went to the PAID emergency room parking lot. Pay to park for emergencies. keeping it classy Stamford Hospital. So call it 25 minutes minimum. the kid was a trooper. The front desk attendant checked on us 3 times and apologized for the delay. When the nurse came out she said they had a room but needed to clean it?
Clean it? You have a 500 million dollar hospital and your out of rooms. out of emergency Rooms.out of pediatric emergency rooms?! She said it would only be a few minutes. You can't get this kid weighed and drugged in less than 30 minutes while the the only thing holding his hand on his body is skin and ligaments?!? It's fucking embarrassing. you should be ashamed. I'll drive them to Norwalk or Greenwich next time and get helped in a timely fashion. I'm embarrassed for you. not to mention paid parking for the emergency room. You are scumbags.

I had the occasion to be admitted here this past week for an overnight stay. The over-all treatment I received here was very good. Two issues though: 1). I came to the hospital for a cardiac issue yet, I'm not quite sure If I was ever seen by a Cardiologist (though I could be wrong). 2). Since I had driven myself to the hospital, I had to park here. When I was discharged, I discovered that I actually had to pay for my parking. Pay for parking while a patient at the hospital? Uh, NOPE!

This was my fourth visit to Stamford Hospital but my first to the new facility that was designed to provide a unique healing environment. I was very impressed with the new wing. The hospital has a more comforting welcoming atmosphere that benefits patients along with the staff. From what I had learned on my visit this beautiful building will support advanced care.
We were visiting our aging Aunt that had taken a spill in her home. She was in a private fairly large room in the new wing with a sizable flat screen TV. She looked very comfortable and was being closely attended by the hospital staff. My review is primarily focused in on the new facility and not as a patient. And from what I have learned as a visitor and from my Aunt's patient experience, I am quite impressed.

The newly built Stamford Hospital is phenomenal! We went in via the E/R from the Valet Parking ($4 ALL DAY) to the Triage it was the best care ever received! The entire staff was so attentive, caring and kind (yes, pretty unusual in my view). The rooms are gorgeous - I felt like I was going into a fancy hotel or resort (just looking for the pool and bar).
I live in Greenwich and trust me, I will never go there in case of an Emergency - the left me out in the hallway with food-poisoning/stomach virus - never did find what it was and a huge bill - that I will never pay in full! Stamford State-of-the-Art Hospital is an example of what all facilities should look like - help the patients to get better by having them heal in a beautiful upscale surrounding. THANK YOU STAMFORD HOSPITAL - appreciate your care for my mom!
