What is a cataract? A cataract is a vision impairment resulting from a cloudiness of the lens in the eye that prevents light from being focused clearly. Cataracts typically form naturally with age, but can be caused by trauma to the eye, medications like steroids, diabetes and exposure to ultraviolet light.
The cornea is the clear front surface of the eye situated directly in front of the iris and pupil. The cornea allows light to enter the eye as well as providing 65% to 75% of the eye's focusing power. Most refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism) are a result of less than optimal curvature or symmetry of the cornea.

I come to Columbia eye clinic once a year. But on the day of June the 8th they seem to be a little behind. I have never had to wait two hours to be seen. I was good and frustrated. But the overall picture is they are very good and the doctor is very nice that I see. So I would give them a rate of five-star.

It was an extraordinary experience. The procedure was done on time and I was out of the surgery suite in under an hour. Everyone involved was friendly, courteous, and very professional. Dr. Crosswell's surgery was completely painless, absolutely no discomfort whatsoever and I could see an incredible difference in my vision by that afternoon.

I thank God every day for Dr. Barker. He has fought with me for 6 years to keep my eyesight. He knows what he is doing. I trust him completely. I am not overly fond of injections in my eye, but if Dr. Barker told me to cut my head off, I would do it. That is how much faith I have in him. Also, a shout out to his staff. They too are awesome. They treat me like their family. I love them all.

I had to be seen quickly on Monday due to a problem in my eye. The receptionist made me an appointment and asked if I could come in and just be there and wait beforehand. Of course I could, so I went to the Pickens Street office where I was seen in less than an hour by Dr. Cain himself. I so appreciate all of the doctors and staff at Columbia Eye Clinic and recommend them highly.

I had a problem with my vision and called Columbia Eye Clinic; they provided me with an appointment that day with Dr. Barker. I found him to be pleasant, knowledgeable, and knew immediately what my problem was (ocular migraine). This put me at ease and I am thankful that they fit me into his schedule.

I highly recommend Dr Huey. He is a good doctor who listens to your concerns and explains everything very well. Many doctors don't listen when you're explaining a concern, so I really appreciate that Dr. Huey listens well. On one occasion Dr. Huey went above and beyond the call of duty for me after someone made a mistake and didn't register me for a test I needed.
Without going into detail, Dr Huey straightened out the mess. He didn't have someone else do it, but he did it himself. To me that shows dedication and concern that is rare in many doctors. Sometimes you do have a long wait until you're called to the examination room, but the wait is worth it when you have a good doctor.

My prescription was so inaccurate that I could actually see better with my glasses off. I has a recheck of the glasses to confirm that they were made according to the the prescription. I had to get a new prescription to buy a second pair of glasses which were not covered by my insurance. I was given a refraction at no charge but no mention was made of making new lenses for me at no charge. I paid for new lenses out of pocket.

My wife failed an eye exam during her annual physical (her annual eye exam was earlier this year). When she called to get seen, she was told that March was the earliest available appointment. We are left with two options, find another ophthalmologist or my wife will not be able to drive. I'm very disappointed that the lady that my wife spoke with was unwilling to work with us to get an appointment sooner than 4 months. Update: My wife called Columbia Eye Clinic again trying to talk with the office manager to see if there was any way to get an earlier appointment.
On the third call (after being transferred to the HR manager and then the Finance manager), the young lady listened to my wife's issue and was able to get her an appointment in about 6 weeks.

I have been going to Columbia Eye Clinic for years. My primary doctor there is Garner Wild. She is terrific! Great sense of humor, a little sarcastic and SO good at what she does! My last visit was for my final cataract surgery. I can't begin to tell you what a JOY it is to see! I have worn glasses/contacts since I was 13 years old. To see the world today through my own eyes is amazing! Thank you Dr Wild! Y'all go see her!
