I'm proud to announce that Mid Coast Hospital has set as policy the nurture and encouragement of quality nursing and nursing environments, and recognizes the connection between nursing, the healing process, and patient outcome, says Rep. Peter Kent D-Woolwich. As we continue to see H1N1 spread, it is not surprising to see an increase in severity, said Dr. Dora Anne Mills, manager of the Maine CDC.

It's a mixed bag. Praises for the Palliative Care Team, oncologist Dr Haney and the nursing staff of the med/surg unit (rooms 210 and 234). It took awhile to conclude my sister was terminally ill and through it all these staff were compassionate and both listened to my sister and family and helped us understand options. Case management is another matter.
They told us she didn't qualify for hospice and later that there were no available beds. We had to wait over the weekend. On Monday we pleaded with Palliative Care to send a hospice referral anyway, she was accepted within 2 hours to Gosnell House in Scarborough. The hospice told us they ALWAYS have open beds. In these days of covid overcrowding we would hope Case Management was more effective in making referrals and discharging to appropriate level of care. Discharge planning also failed in my sister's prior hospital discharge from pulmonology.
She was almost completely dependent yet was sent home alone without home care or plans for support despite the fact that the family specifically requested it from Dr Keaney and from discharge planning, saying it wasn't medically necessary. When my out of town niece asked for resources so she could hire care, discharge planning told her to call 211! No surprise she was readmitted days later after great struggle at home.

Doctor was great I've never had an issue with any of the staff but their billing department is a total joke! I had an ER visit didn't have insurance at the time in 2018 they said no worries we'll send you a bill which is fine I had a service rendered they deserve to be paid, except the bill never came I called and was told I didn't have one so I let it go and now in 2021 it pops up on my dads SSN as a collection account.
Apparently they still had my family's info from when we lived at NASB and instead of using my updated info I provided them they tried to bill tricare and send the bill to the old Navy Housing unit we lived in from 2007 had my dad as my guarantor even though I'm 27 and my info showed my age. It took 3 months to finally get it pulled off his SSN and into payments with me only to discover that there was another bill they submitted to my current insurance with the same faulty information which the declined coverage that I now have to pay because it's past the 3 month window to appeal. Total joke and would have to be an emergency before I went back because there's no telling how much they'll screw my credit and me not know it.

Just got off the phone with the most rude "nurse" I think I have ever talked with. No answers, no compassion. I typically like to post positive experiences only, but this truly deserves -stars if possible. I had a medical question that also relates closely to my employment and seeing patients of my own today, however after talking with her I understand now why I have the empathy I have towards people I see.
Just be kind - that is all you have to do, you never know what someone else may be going through. I hope you don't treat everyone you speak with today the same way you treated me

I wish this review could be more praise than criticism because of how wonderful my first emergency room stay was. Alice P. was the crisis worker who assessed me during my first stay and she was amazing and I have nothing but respect for her. The nurses were kind and respectful of me. Staff communicated well with me, my guardian, and my therapist. My second stay on the other hand was wildly different.
Both crisis workers I spoke with during this stay were incompetent and horrid. The first was horrible at listened and often spoke through me rather than to me. The second was ignorant and ignored what I was saying & my safety. She also never ended up communicating with my therapist who she had called once but never responded to after my therapist called her twice.
My personal belief is that she knew my therapist would have told her not to discharge me, but that's just a theory. Anyway yeah she didn't care about my safety, didn't listen to me, and honestly it always felt like her goal was to send me home rather than get me help. Nurses were okay, the one nurse I knew from my first stay was super nice and accommodating, & security was helpful and kind.
The doctor I spoke to continuously tried to pressure me to start on medication after I had already communicated I didn't want to and wouldn't accept medication from someone who didn't understand all of my disorders. Staff ignored the fact that I had very clearly stated I was not safe to go home. In response to me communicating I had intent to commit suicide but no method they prescribed me zoloft (that I had already turned down multiple times) and sent me home.
You can connect the dots on why that was insanely stupid. Luckily I can't take pills or else this would have ended much worse than a bad review. I was continuously spoken over, gaslit, and not listened to. My words were constantly twisted whenever I spoke to the doctor. I basically spent every conversation with him feeling as if I was crazy for having a sense of bodily autonomy.
He also spent about 5 minutes trying to convince me that my therapist isn't helpful to me because I was in the emergency room which is such an ignorant argument. I really think this doctor was just very ignorant about mental health and shouldn't of been allowed to speak to a suicidal person. In conclusion my second stay at the midcoast emergency department was traumatic.
The only thing they did successfully during my stay was convince me to never reach out for help again. If you need to go somewhere for suicidal intent, go somewhere else. Trying to get help is not worth getting traumatized further in the process.

I had a hernia repair from Dr Mason and tubal from Dr Shalhaney yesterday. I am so grateful that they were able to do both surgery at once, whereas Maine general wouldn't even consider it. My surgery went well, other than the pain of course. I have to say my nurse Jon was absolutely thorough, very very kind, and personable absolutely amazing. My anesthesiologist nurse such a great personality I wish I could remember her name, and Terra whom just started there who helped me get to the bathroom and to my vehicle what a great new addition to the team! Every single one of you are amazing! Thank you for making this surgery easier for me!

I went to Midcoast for a hernia repair and my nurse Lara was amazing. She was personable, compassionate and easy to talk to which made my experience better than I expected. This was my first surgery so as you can imagine it was unnerving for me but Lara put me at ease by keeping me apprised on what she was doing plus what I could expect from the surgery. I couldn't have done it without her and for that I'm very grateful and thankful for her. Lara, thank you and I wish you all the best.

My son has had an on going health problem since February this year. We have gone to so many doctors that I couldn't tell you the number. My son has constant pain. When the pain gets to much to bare, doctors tell him to go to the ER. They give him a Ultrasound or a cat scan, and find nothing. You would think that after all this time they would give him a MRI.
He has great insurance, so the excuse to not help is mind boggling. On top of that they speak down to my son, whose asking for help. We even spoke to their patient quality people, that didn't do a thing. So, if you need a hospital I would NEVER recommend them, unless you need stitches. IDK I'm at a lost for words, I've never felt so helpless

I'm visiting my mom. I'm from Wv. I went in the ER for my gallbladder. I 'm 10hrs away from home visiting so that wasn't good but I wouldn't change it. I went in Monday early after my second attack. They covered everything. I had the best care by the sweetest people. I wouldn't have had the same treatment at home. Thank you for taking such good care of me. I appreciate all of you

I had a 4-day stay, admitted from the ER. From the git-go, staff were knowledgeable, thorough, professional and personable. They could have easily discharged me with "heartburn" but waited for additional testing and time lapse for indicators to hit my blood stream. As tests confirmed suspicions, I was admitted to the hospital. There, without exception, all staff was available, courteous, knowledgeable, professional and caring.
From the doctors, nurses, right down to the dude who brought my meals, I give all an A+. I was treated with empathy and respect and everything was fully explained to me. Special call-out to the Hospitalist, Dr Goodman who was my "tour guide", advocate and available for a much needed pep talk. Also to my cardiologist, Dr Jablonski who so personably explained the situation to me and even drew pictures.
I could see these guys really cared and it humbled me. Nurses were very responsive and caring, angels really. Overall a great experience out of an experience one would like to never have.

I have have been a patient of Mid Coast for over 10 years. I have seen a steady decline in their care and respect. My recent interaction with Mid Coast Hospital has made me decide to leave them. The front desk staff were very rude and short with me. I was immediately greeted with "put on a new mask". The most disturbing part of the visit was my 45 minute wait.
After my cold greeting and long wait, I had to get lab work. No one instructed me the process. I went to the lab door then returned to the front desk. The response was "Well, you need to come to me if you want that", in a harsh tone. Hard to give personal feedback when your company statement considers anyone that does not respond to staffs requests to be considered 'aggressive'.
This is their actual policy. I guess it is time to find a different provider. I just wanted to leave this here for anyone else interested in starting a relationship with them.

Deep systemic issues with their systems and communication. I had hoped that seven months into the current pandemic that basic communication skills, sequences, information flow charting, and priority matrixes had been at least implemented if not perfectly tuned. Wow was I ever wrong. I have not seen such a failure to communicate in a mission critical operation in my entire life.
On top of that, during the time Zoom had a well publicized security flaw, I was requested to join a Zoom meeting. I offered to send them a link to a secure online meeting system (I work in IT), but they were unable to provide an email address to me "for security reasons". I will avoid this hospital as much as possible. BTW: Some of the doctors and staff are great.

When I found out my gramma was in the hospital, the first thing I told my dad was that she has great insurance she can go anywhere, why are you keeping her at midcoast? Boy, was I wrong. Happy nurses day to ALEX and ERIN for taking care of my gramma and myself and my family during her last hours, and then some. I asked 1000x if it was okay to touch her (her infection, etc) and never once did they make me feel stupid or ignorant for asking so many times. Instead, they came in multiple times, they responded to my families and mines's every need.
More Importantly, they responded to my grammas every need. From bringing a chaplain and food basket unannounced, to offering to bring me a cot knowing I was the one flying in from Miami, to never questioning the family for going in the "restricted/nurses only food area for drinks or sandwiches" to making sure my gramma passed in comfort. You gave us the comfort and space she and us needed.
I flew in one weekend, my grammas last weekend, and got blessed with Erin and Alex for their respective shifts the final few days. I work in the medical field in administration, and the service these two nurses provided, their empathy and care for their patients and their families, is beyond rare and incredible. The care my family, more importantly my gramma experienced, is something you can't teach. Erin and Alex, you two are angels.
You will always hold a special place in my heart for seeing how delicately and special you treated my family, me, and most importantly my grandmother during her final hours. On National Nurses Day, I couldn't think of 2 better nurses to thank. You both clearly found your calling, and thank you for listening and following it. Thank you forever. I have been an in-patient at MidCoast Hopsital twice. First time was for 12 days in 2016. I had very good care, housekeeping came every day and cleaned my room and bathroom, docs were great. Second visit was in Sept. 2017, when they save my life. Had a horrendous GI bleed and after transfusing me they had to send me to MMC where the surgeries were done.
I remember, especially, a CNA named Tammy. She worked evenings and I believe she was/is from Harpswell. Every night she would come see me and "tuck me in like a turtle" and talk with me. Great gal. The only minor complaint I had was that I had to wait in the ED for 6 hours before being taken to my room. I had been admitted almost immediately upon arriving. When asking one of the nurses on the floor they sent me to why the long wait, her response, "That is hospital protocol". Think that should be addressed.

Mid-Coast Hospital is a place to avoid if you possibly can. The nurses couldn't be less interested in what they are doing. One nursing assistant was excellent; the others were sloppy, lazy, and would be better off stocking shelves at Walgreen's. The place is filthy. I was there for four days and nothing was cleaned in that time. Toilets and sinks should be cleaned every day, but evidently these folks hadn't received the memo.
The floor was never washed and full of detritus on the day that I left. Disgusting. The furniture appeared as though it had been retrieved from the dump -- possibly it was. The food was totally inedible. I couldn't get out of this place fast enough.

If I could I would give Mid coast hospital zero stars. Staff needs some serious training in patient confidentiality, time maintence, and overall professionalism! While waiting over an hour for my 9 am appointment with imaging, myself and everyone else waiting heard all about several patients where I could tell you there name, phone number, address, age, birthdate, and diagnosis.
After being guaranteed by several employees while making my appointment that I would be done with my testing in plenty of time for my appointment with my doctor scheduled for 2hrs and 45 min after my appt. with imaging, I just had reschedule my doctors appointment because I was informed by imaging staff there is no way I'll make my appointment.
Due to be taking back an hour late, if they had been running on time ( wich I have personally NEVER seen) I would have had plenty of time to make it. This is not my first time having these same recurring issues but it will be my last at Mid Coast NO patient confidentiality at all, no sense to make an appointment and if you do still plan on waiting for 45 minuets or longer. I could understand if this happened once in awhile but every time shows some serious lacking in many departments at Mid Coast Hospital.

We have had our children here and I also know several people that work here at Mid coast! It's a great hospital and they care for you and show it, in how they treat you! I like that the hospital still feels like a small hospital where you feel like your home and yet the help and assistance and technology of a larger hospital. I highly recommend midcoast! Keep it up folks!:
