What an amazing group. I have doctored with Mary Rotto for years. Recently I had surgery completed by Dr. Gessner. The nursing staff, doctors, and physician assistants were all caring and compassionate. Their knowledge and skills were top notch. Thanks for empowering so many women and their physical health.

I waited until I delivered to write this review, but with being new to Ames and Iowa, I searched for a qualified OB and many local women suggested this practice. At first, they seemed accommodating during this CVID time and bringing children to appointments, but that's where my praises end. Immediately Dr. Gessner diagnosed me as high risk (without even receiving my full history from my previous doctor).
She then proceeded to order unnecessary tests. When I declined some, I was met with disapproving looks. I got the feeling that these tests were not for my benefit but rather to cover herself. At one appointment I was told it would just be a check up and ultrasound, but when I got there they tried to get me to do another type of unnecessary invasive exam to which I declined.
Then was directly told in a very unprofessional tone from the doctor herself, "Well tell me what we're doing at this appointment then." At this same appointment, I was told I needed to take a certain STD test. I asked why and was told it was state law. Again not being from Iowa, I declined at that time. After I went home and researched and consulted my previous OB in another state, I found there is no such law for any state.
This was INFURIATING. After this incident, I never went back. Rudeness, unprofessionalism, and lying is what I experienced at this practice. Not to mention the constant berating for the CVID vaccine. I could continue with ways other situations were handled during my care, but I won't. If you want care where you are involved in the decisions for your own body, don't go here.

Staff is friendly enough. My major complaint with this office is how long the appointment takes and never being seen even remotely close to when your appointment is actually scheduled for. I've been here 2 times this month. The first time was a normal appointment and I was required to wait for a very long time before I was called back for my appointment.
I had to make a follow up appointment a few weeks later to get my blood pressure checked by a nurse. They assured me this appointment would take 5 minutes. For this follow up appointment, I made sure to show up 10 minutes early to ensure I was checked in before my appointment time. I waited an HOUR before I was finally called back (just to get my blood pressure taken).
Super frustrating. This appointment that was supposed to be quick and taken over my lunch break turned into an appointment that was over an hour long. There were also 5 different people that checked in for their appointments after me and got called back before me.

Dr. Allison is absolutely the very best. My daughter went to see her for a simple procedure that, that turned out not so simple. We had to see a surgeon, and Dr. Allison showed up on her day off to be there with my daughter and stayed through the whole thing with her, because of how nervous she was. This was more than I could ever ask of someone. Her kindness and caring nature is something everyone should strive for. Thank you.

Had the absolute best experience during my 9 months of pregnancy and post pregnancy. Friendly atmosphere and had amazing nurses. Dr. Gessner was very personable and caring. She never rushed my appointments, always answered questions thoroughly, and it was easy to see that she truly cared. Will definitely be going back to the Doran Clinic for my 2nd pregnancy! -Anna Hargrave

The staff are very professional and friendly. They work very hard and see a huge amount of patients each day. That being said, the administration is lacking. The doctors think that the staff have no life outside of the office and don't consider that employees need time off to care for a sick and dying parent. I have seen this happen a couple of times when an employee needed time off.
The office is also very outdated and old fashioned. A lot of time is spent running around looking for paper charts and doing clerical work on outdated equipment. From the outside looking in, it seems ideal. But not a good place to be if you have any thoughts of spending time with an ailing parent and need some personal time off. I would never set foot in the door again.

(Rebecca) Becky should not be working at the Clinic! Went to get my birth control implant taken out because it is expired. She spoke with me in the waiting area, that there is no reason to remove it. She proceeded to cancel my appointment against my knowing. I asked her and told her that since I have an appointment made, I want it removed. She threw a fit and I was not getting any where with her. I will never come back again.

I have been a patient of this clinic since the age of 16 (I am now 35). I have always had good experiences and wonderful nurses, doctors, PAs, and NPs. However, my most recent experience is evidence of the true extraordinary care that this clinic provides. During an exam, my doctor noticed some lumpy tissue on my breast. She said it was probably nothing, but thought I should most likely have a mammogram and an ultrasound (just to double check).
The mammogram and ultrasound didn't show much because my tissue is so dense. The people doing the ultrasound said I have fine tissue and nothing to worry about and sent me on my way. My doctor was not entirely satisfied. She called me to discuss the results and said she would like it if I would be willing to triple check the tissue with an MRI of my breast.
She even APOLOGIZED for being so paranoid. NOTHING is paranoid when it comes to health and I thanked her for her caring and thoroughness. She had even called to make sure my insurance would cover it before calling me. PLUS she scheduled the appointment for me. I have never experienced such caring from a doctor or her nurses before. This is an amazing facility with amazing staff.
