Dr. Stuart P. Sondheimer is a highly experienced eye surgeon and board-certified ophthalmologist that has been offering breakthrough treatment to patients for almost 40 years. Prior to surgery, such as LASIK or cataract surgery, Dr. Sondheimer personally meets with and carefully evaluates his patients to answer any questions and offer his expert opinion regarding which procedure is the best for them. This personalized care is continued throughout the procedure and follow-up visits, as Dr. Sondheimer conducts all post-surgical evaluations himself.
Corrective lenses have been the principle behind vision health for more than 400 years. When I received my medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1979, glasses and contact lenses were the predominant means of bringing refractive focus to your eyes. I thought the state of vision health science was about as good as it would get.
The macula focuses vision for the eyes to perform tasks such as reading and recognizing faces, according to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 12 million people over the age of 40 in the United States have some type of vision impairment, and around 7% of children have a diagnosed eye and vision condition.
Small incision cataract surgery, SICS, is a technique used to safely remove rock hard lenses. Commonly used in the developing world, ophthalmologists can make an external scleral incision, 6 to 8 mm wide, with a wider incision dissection into clear cornea and sclera. Small incision cataract surgery is a refinement of extra-capsular cataract extraction.

I visited Dr. Sondheimer with both of my parents. Dr. Sondheimer performed cataracts surgery for my dad. He is really passionate about his work and extremely knowledgeable. When performed detailed evaluation, he was patient to explain about condition, review all options and answered all our questions. I will try to keep this review short and focused. After 50+ years of wearing thick glasses (my recent prescription was -25 and no, it's not a typo) I came to Dr. Sondheimer for a cataract surgery and he obliged, exceeding all my expectations in the process. I now have 20/20 eyesight, relish the vivid color perception and improved night vision and find delight in the freedom from corrective glasses or contacts. (Ok, still need reading glasses, but who of my age doesn't?) The discomfort level during and after both left and right eye procedures can be described as negligible. Dr. Sondheimer and his team are supremely competent professionals, whom I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone considering this type of procedure.

Dr. Sondheimer recently treated the cataract in my right eye by replacing my clouded lens with a "toric" lens (the upgrade that would correct for my astigmatism and perhaps let me see distances without eyeglasses). Long story short: I had the surgery Monday afternoon, and Tuesday evening I was driving around - with absolute comfort and confidence! - with no glasses.
That was about ten days ago, and my vision has been stable and delightful. Since Dr. Sondheimer is independent, he was able to see me weeks earlier those employed by a large, impersonal, multi-layered medical group. In summary, I give Dr. Sondheimer the highest compliment I know how to give a technical expert: This Guy Really Knows What He's Doing!

I was having trouble seeing due to floaters in my eyes. So much so that it was affecting my driving and my ability to see my computer. I had resigned myself to having to undergo some kind of invasive surgery to correct the problem. Then I ran across Dr. Sondheimer. What an incredible stroke of luck for me. He was able to use modern technology to eliminate my floaters.
There was no invasive surgery of any kind. It was completely painless. In what felt like a matter of only a few minutes, I was able to see 100% better. I didn't realize how much sight I had lost until he restored it. It was an amazing experience. Dr. Sondheimer was great and his office staff was wonderful too. He is an exceptionally skilled doctor.

Dr. Sondheimer did a great job with my cataract surgery and toric lens replacement. It cured my life long astigmatism and driving without glasses. I really appreciate the work done by Dr. Sondheimer and his office staff. Dr. Sondheimer has treated me for floaters and cataracts, and my life has been improved forever with his help. The office staff is very friendly, efficient, and polite. Dr. Sondheimer is very thorough and takes his time with his patients. He's always answered any questions I've had and I sincerely feel he really cares about my vision, rather than making me feel like just another patient in his office.
