Forty years ago few people knew the word hospice; fewer still recognized its potential to alleviate suffering. But one woman held a vision of what this philosophy of care could mean to her community. This nurse, Elizabeth "Betty" Bulen, invited three of her friends, Betty Benz, Ann Elizabeth Warren, and Kay Elizabeth Austin, to work with her in establishing an organization of compassionate volunteers devoted to offering hospice care and palliative care to the terminally ill and their families. To strengthen this vision, Betty Bulen and Betty Benz visited St. Christopher's Hospice in London.

**Update: Finally heard from the Hospice and they are making sure my issues are addressed. So that is good news and much appreciated. Upped my review from one star to a 4. Might have gotten a 5 if I had never had the problems in the first place.** Hospice services were fine while my mother was alive and in hospital. I give them one star for their after death care.

A few weeks after my mom's death THEY called ME to offer counseling. I declined, but then my dad died suddenly and I knew I needed help. I called them, left a message and they never called back. I called again and talked to someone. They said they'd call next week to follow up and set something up. THEY NEVER CALLED. I have given up on them and trying to get the help I need.

The team from Elizabeth Hospice in San Diego was so helpful and supportive for us with my 91 year old mother. She was very stubborn about doing things her way and they helped me to accept that and worked with her. They provided emotional support for her and for our family. I had no idea what to do but they guided us thru everything from the time they began to the end.

The team from Elizabeth Hospice in San Diego that supported us was very caring and compassionate. I cannot say enough about how much I appreciated their help thru this difficult time.

This Hospice in San Diego deserves more respect. My Mom passed in Sep. 2012, Elizabeth Hospice was very accommodating with everything I needed for my Mom. I cared for her myself every day and Elizabeth Hospice was scheduled twice a week, however I only needed them once to help with bathing. Everybody was very nice and respectful, they gave me Meds if I needed them for my Mom, which I only gave her when she showed some signs of discomfort.

I would HIGHLY recommend this San Diego Hospice. I know when there is a crisis with a family member everyone is uptight, but Elizabeth Hospice deserves a great review! Thank you Elizabeth Hospice for all your caring!

All of the counselors at The Elizabeth Hospice are understanding, compassionate and patient. They recognize that everyone grieves at their own pace. Complicated grief sometimes requires intensive care. Little by little, I am becoming unstuck. Along with the love and support of my family and friends, I credit my counselor and The Elizabeth Hospice with saving my life.

I have enrolled my various loved ones in several hospice groups over the years, and can say from experience that the Elizabeth Hospice has been the very best. The care provided to my Mom, the compassion exhibited and communication was above and beyond my expectations. My Mom passed in November 2020 and 7 months later I am still receiving thoughtful follow up calls with concern for my grieving process. I recommend The Elizabeth Hospice with my whole heart.
