We are proud that so many in our region trust us with their care. Whether it's routine checkups, emergency room visits for a minor mishap, or something much more serious, thousands turn to SVMC each year. Our partnerships set us apart. You'll see partnership in the efforts of our nursing staff, whose focus on better patient experiences has earned national recognition with the Magnet nursing designation. You'll see it in our affiliation with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, giving patients access to hundreds of specialists without leaving home for care.

The nurses that handle triage calls are consistently kind and helpful. Five stars to them. SVMC and SVMC Northshire have some spectacular doctors. Five stars for them. Here's the one-star that brings this whole evaluation down: the music (a short loop with a banging noise throughout) that plays while waiting on the phone (which is often for 10 minutes or more) is absolutely horrendous.
If someone were anxious when calling SVMC, they would be going mad by the time they were able to talk to someone. I have mentioned this to several people, but nobody seems to know what to do about it. I can only speculate that the sound file is intentionally annoying so callers will hang up (which I've done more than once). Who sold them on this particular thrashing-machine music? I don't know, nor do I know how else to complain that might actually get it changed.

A few days ago I had the unfortunate privilege of getting my first kidney stone. I'm one who avoids the doctor's at all costs. unless it's a true emergency. Long story short, I took a trip to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and wow. I couldn't have asked for a more caring, patient staff. They did everything in their power to make sure I was comfortable.
I ended up having to stay over night and once they were able to get some of my pain under control, I was able to feel comfortable for a bit and rest! They listened, explained everything so I could fully understand, and they genuinely seemed like they actually cared and took pride in their job! I don't usually leave reviews, I'm just beyond thankful of all the staff that had helped me that night. Thank you all so much.

The way they do, (or don't do), triage is crazy. First come, first serve.unless they think you are a quick problem then they take you ahead of serious stuff. Making people suffering wait even longer. Expect to take 3+ hours on a short wait time. Watched a kid no more than 5 wheeze and cry cause he couldn't breath or walk for an hour before his parents lost it and insisted he be taken immediately.
Then it still took 10 minutes. I know they busy, the nurses are kind, the staff is friendly. They need leadership and some kind of humane system that makes sense. Me, I waited 3 hrs and 45 min. and left not being able to be seen.

Here with my daughter and granddaughter and they will not allow me to be in the back with her to help with the baby. Hospital policy quoted. Well- maybe it's time hospital policies remember who pays to keep their doors open. Not to mention the lack of concern for our baby who's having an allergic reaction! Next time we will go to Samaritan. This is the second very bad experience from triage we have had this year. First one was for my daughter, now this.

Went to palliative care as per primary doc. Took the meds to relieve the pain. 12/20 returned to palliative care was told there is no oncologist on board at this time? The doc I saw was awesome. But as usual the hospital failed me. So I'm looking for an oncologist. I have read your generic response no need there is no chance I'm ever gonna call and I expect the same from the so called hospital

This is for my most recent visit to the ER. I have had fine experiences here (which is why it's 2 stars), but this last was extremely disappointing. When it involves your child, it just hits you differently. We went to the ER back in October because my son fell and hurt his clavicle. He was nauseous and in a lot of pain. We waited for a long while to get in.which I figured it was busy.
They took us for x-rays while waiting. They gave him acetaminophen after bringing him back to a room. When they came back to check on the pain level, he expressed that he was still in a lot of pain. He was basically shut down from the amount of pain he was in. They ignored it and gave him nothing else. They said the x-rays were fine and said it was muscular.that he would need to use it and move it and got us ready for discharge.
He was still nauseous and they literally handed us a puke bag for the road.nothing to ease the nausea. WELL, if that wasn't disappointing enough, I brought him to the orthopedic a couple of weeks later because it wasn't improving. They re-x-rayed and said that the ER NEVER X-RAYED HIS CLAVICLE, only his shoulder (and they cancelled the clavicle x-ray).
So they wouldn't have been able to see the fracture that was there! So all of the advice they gave was the complete opposite of what he should have been doing. He could have hurt it further because of their negligence. So not only did we leave there with him nauseous and in pain, we left there with incomplete and wrong information. NOT IMPRESSED!
