Services
A Mental Health Therapist is a person who helps people find comfort, joy and hope in the face of life's difficulties. Interventions are offered to help the person cope with and resolve anxiety and depression from loss of a loved one, conflict in a relationship or adjustment to divorce, and other problems that affect a person's well being.
A psychiatrist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of mental, behavioral and neurodevelopmental disorders. These disorders include depression, anxiety, bi-polar, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders and other mental health problems. The practice of psychiatry involves the diagnosis and treatment of mental health and emotional problems.
A neurologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the central nervous system, including the peripheral and autonomic nervous systems. These disorders include epilepsy, stroke, dementia, multiple sclerosis, migraines, radiculopathy, neuropathy, brain injuries, Parkinson's disease and other neurological disorders.
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that evaluates the electrical activity in your brain. This activity shows up as wavy lines on an EEG recording. An EEG can determine changes in brain activity that may be useful in diagnosing brain disorders, especially epilepsy. Wash and dry your hair the night before or the day of the test, but don't use any conditioners, hair creams, sprays or styling gels. Hair products can make it harder for the sticky patches that hold the electrodes to adhere to your scalp.

For a place that offers psych help, maybe they should consider evaluating the rude front desk lady. So rude from the second you walk in, before you've even opened your mouth, that you know exactly what's coming your way. She was rude to the people who came in after us as well, so it doesn't appear to be a personal problem with us, but a personality issue.
I should have taken advice from other past clients that I know personally, who have taken their care elsewhere. There was a discrepancy with an office policy, which despite never being an issue anywhere in the last 7 years, was an issue here. It's completely understandable for a company to uphold a policy, but does not need to be dealt with so rudely. Considering she was rude before the policy issue even came up, I have to assume that this is just the customer service that is offered.
Perhaps they don't like to see referrals from chiefs. Or maybe this is the office's culture and they hire people who are like this as it seems other reviewers have complaints of front desk staff over the years. I highly doubt they care if they lose people, but I felt compelled to say it anyways. This does not make me trust the kind of care that will be received and we will be finding another provider. There is a way to treat people and this was not it. I'm actually embarrassed for their office.

At first I submitted a glowing report for Dr Martino's office but after the extremely RUDE treatment by the front desk assistant, who I could tell was stonewalling me, I had to find another provider. I have seen Dr Martino on and off for 30 years. I was not given an appointment because the woman on the front desk said that I needed a referral. I explained that I had two insurances and finally said that I would pay out of pocket.
No appointment granted. The lesson I learned is that when you are in dire straights, sometimes the provider and his staff are not there to help you. Even after I secured a referral, they would not give me an appointment.

Not a review about counseling/therapy or neurology - I have no information in that area. HOWEVER, at Fairbanks PSYCHIATRIC and Neurological clinic, you should be diagnosed with your mental illness beforehand because the psychiatrists won't diagnose you. Fun fact about being diagnosed with a mental illness: it determines your treatment and medication! One would think that there would be awareness of the fragility of patients (i.e. suicidal or those inflicting self harm) but, nope.

The rude gal at the front no longer works there. It's got much better as far as customer service and treating humans like individuals with different needs. Dr. Thurston-Hicks has always been my doctor and has been attentive and actually has a back and forth communication and listens to the needs of the patient. Dr. Hicks even returns calls from her patients.
The prior comments are true about the receptionist who would, 99% of the time answer the phone very rudely, cold and short as if we were interrupting her or bothering her, but they are making a 360°. The reception staffing changeover has been a good look for the company! Give them a chance. I recommend it. Reviews are there for not only the customers/patients but for the business to improve with public insight. Don't let the past of prior employees deter you from letting them help you. Good luck

If I could give a minus I would. I would never advice anyone to go there. As a professional and working family this office is the most unprofessional office I have ever seen. Actually I wasn't able to see. All I needed was for her to go over my current meds and see if any of them would be causing a health issue I am going through. Instead we ended up being accused of looking for drugs. Unbelievable.
Never meet the women. Never walked into that office and every appt made was messed up then blamed on me. I was told I could never make another appt. I cant beleive that if she or he had seen issues with me getting in they would atleast call and find out what was going on before lashing out on people and refusing service. I cant take any controlled substances.
I am allergic and have never been on anything that would be addictive. Nor am I now. Nor is any member of my family. I cant beleive I am even writing this. I have never left a poor review on anyone.

I carefully researched counselors in the area and made an appointment with one of the counselors here. When I arrived on time for the appointment, I was told it was with some neurologist. I told them very clearly that I had specifically made the appointment with one of the counselors because of her training and background. All the receptionist could say was "I guess we'll put your name back on the list." I never heard from them again.
This behavior is unconscionable---what if I had been an individual in great distress? I'm disappointed and frustrated by their disorganization. The irony here is finding a qualified professional to listen---and they couldn't even listen to what appointment I requested.

Dr. Foelsch is one of the best neurologists I have ever seen and having been born with a neurological disorder I have seen plenty! He is always friendly yet professional. He provides extra information to help maintain my incident-free status, as well as other health-related nuggets. My prescriptions are always provided to the pharmacy in time for refilling.
As for the front desk staff there is certainly room for improvement. There seems to be a different person each time I go. Granted it is only once per year, but it seems they should last longer. I cannot recommend any other staff as I do not interact with them.

Do not see dr Hicks for anything you will wind up with 7 years going to her and in worse condition all she does is make faces and noises she doesn't say a thing you will wind up figuring out stuff for yourself she is a petty human being and I sincerely hope she knows she is the filth under most people's shoes. She does not do anything but push pills on you and she will not even remember anything from the last talk you've had.
You have been warned. Any mental health should most likely be handled in anchorage as everyone here must have a fake license because they are complete crooks and idiots. If I could give negative stars I would.

I have multiple sclerosis, I canceled my appointment within the aloted time (48) hours due do I just received a new job and didn't want to look bad by leaving for an appointment. Instead of offering to reschedule the woman just said "ok". My wife called back multiple times to reschedule the appointment but no one would ever call her back. Finely after the 5th try they answered the refused to see me because I had canceled the one appointment.
Never in my life have I heard of a doctor of this low of caliber. I would NEVER recommend anyone seeing this neurologist. There is hope though as there is a neurologist that comes up from anchorage that people with neurological diseases can see so that way you don't have to be forced to use this clinic.

I visited with Dr. Foelsch, after I collapsed unexplainably, to have my EEG interpreted, and to sort out the root cause of my accident. Dr. Foelsch did not provide any additional information to that my primary care physician had provided (or I could research myself via google). My questions were answered with poor bedside manner, as well as a guarded demeanor. Dr. Foelsch had not opened my file, or looked at my results until I was in his office.
I felt as if I was visiting an office that had dropped out of the 60's. Overall, a poor experience, and having spoken with other community members (physicians included), have been told that I should have made a visit to Anchorage. Still paying on my brief, unprofessional, and expensive ($770) office visit.
