A cataract is a common condition that causes a clouding of the eye's lens, and affects millions of people each year, including more than half of all Americans over the age of 65. The goal of refractive lens exchange is to restore distance and near vision with greatly reduced dependence on glasses. When the eyelid is affecting vision, an oculoplastic surgeon can help by correcting the anatomic deformity. The overall goal of any cosmetic surgery is to make our patients feels more confident and to correct multiple issues that can occur with the body.
Services
The mission of Central Florida Eye Specialists and Laser Center is to practice ophthalmology with conscience and humility. We pledge to treat our patients with compassion, respect and impartial care. We hold sacred the trust of our patients and we strive to help every individual to achieve the highest level of health, comfort and function of their vision.
At Central Florida Eye Specialists, one of the conditions we see and treat most often is cataracts. Our highly-trained and skilled surgeons are some of the most experienced in the field, and that's why more and more patients trust their cataract treatment to us. We're proud that hundreds of patients every year trust us to find solutions to their cataract problems and we are one of the few practices chosen as a center of excellence where other physicians visit to learn the most modern cataract surgery techniques.
We are born with a flexible lens inside the eye that is able to focus light on the retina and give us vision. As we grow, the eye and the lens change thus forcing most people to wear glasses for the best vision. As we get older, the lens loses flexibility, and we lose the ability to focus on near objects which require the use of reading or bifocal glasses.
Oculoplastic surgeons are experts in eyelid, orbit and lacrimal surgery. An oculoplastic surgeon is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has completed further fellowship training in plastic surgery. This field of medicine is devoted to treating problems of the eyelids, eye socket, and lacrimal system.

My first time here and probably last. I entered a waiting room with 15 people waiting, and a receptionist who wanted to take my personal history verbally in front of everyone. When I refused to answer questions in public, she proceeded to read me a disclaimer and had me sign blindly without seeing what I was signing. 40 minutes after my appt. I am finally taken back where again an assistant proceeds to take my history verbally.
This all could have been accomplished much more quickly and efficiently if they had just let me fill out the history. She took my glasses to check the prescription but apparently didn't know what she was seeing because she didn't realize I had no-line bifocals. I finally saw the doctor for maybe 5 minutes. I have no faith that this was a worthwhile exam.

* THIS REVIEW IS JUST FOR THEIR PHONE SYSTEM (so far)* Good luck trying to reach this office via phone. I've been trying to call them to schedule an appointment for a family member for the last 2 days from 11AM-12PM & then again from 1PM - closing. Yesterday (Wednesday).called them at 12PM.got the message saying they are open on Monday-Friday from 8AM-12PM & then again from 1-4PM. Called back several times from 1PM +.same message. Ok.perhaps they got off early.
I'll try again tomorrow. Today (Thursday), I tried calling from 11AM-12PM, same message (no problem, perhaps they are busy & turned on the messaging machine early). I've been on the phone every 5-10 mins trying to call them from 1PM til now (3:46 PM), still same message: "Our office hours are.please call back during those hours." Wow, how hard is it to reach them?
I'm seriously considering just driving there as they are only 10mins away. I'm sure the doctors & staff are great people like other reviewers say.provided you can get thru their telephone system to actually make an appointment to visit the office. Seems like their messaging machine has been on the whole day--I guess I'll have to try tomorrow (Friday).
I tried calling again a few times in the morning on Friday, but got answering machine again, so I just drove there after lunch & saw that they had a "closed today" sign in front. Perhaps they've been closed for the last few days due to some unforeseen circumstances? Anything is possible during these Covid times. I'll try again next week. *Update* - after 1 week, I was finally able to reach them & the lady I spoke to was super polite & friendly. Adding 1 star as I was finally able to get through the phone system to reach a real human. *2nd Update * : After encountering the friendly staff & doctors, I'm updating the review to 5*.
The friendliness, professionalism, and overall loving nature of the doctors & nurses just surpasses everything & makes all the headaches trying to reach them worth it. Btw, seems there is an option to leave a message now (during office hrs) & an option to call the doctor on call for emergencies, so their phone system has improved as well. If you need any eye exam or eye surgery. Do not hesitate to call them, you won't regret it. Oh, and if you can't reach them by phone, just drive there.

If it were not so sad I would have to laugh from two posts 6 and 8 months ago about the phone system. I called Tuesday morning at 11:45 about a problem. They told me the triage nurse checked her voice mail every 30 minutes. Almost 5 hours later she called back at 3:57. I called her back at 3:58 and they had already shut the phone system down for the day!
I figured she would call back on Wednesday which she did not. I called back Thursday morning and talked to the office about the problem but they couldn't care less. I am happy with the doctor but the office problem continues. Dr Scruggs did surgery for entropion correction. He did a superb job. Give stars for him but their office practices still need a lot of work.

I really, really like this place. The doctors are excellent. THE PHONE SERVICE STINKS. Every time I call between 0800 and 0830 the message is: The office is currently closed, normal business hours are 0800-1200. This is normal for the phone support staff. This review is for phone staff's indifference to this issue, who's response to this issue is "We are busy, and only three of us here", tough. What does it take to switch the phone to message used when open, at 0800 rather than 0830, answer: SECONDS, results: customer satisfaction goes up!

I am so disgusted with this office. My last appointment with them for my exams was Nov. 2017. As I always do, I made my appointments for the following year (2018) at check out. Within weeks of my Nov. 2017 appointment they called me to reschedule my appointments that was set for Nov. 2018. Then in 2018 they called to reschedule again. Long story short throughout 2018 they continually needed to change my appointment/s.
After numerous times of the office rescheduling me for one reason or another my most recent rescheduled appointments were for 1/11/2019 for a field of vision test and another appointment on 1/17/2019 for my eye exam. On 1/9/2019 I received a call from them needing to change my 1/17/2019 appointment yet again and this morning 1/10/2019 they called to change my 1/11/2019 appointment yet again.
Enough is enough. I am done with this. I told them that I will no longer be a patient of theirs. The response was "fine, if that is what you want to do, " in a very nasty tone. They do not even deserve that one star but I have no choice.

I had a great experience at Central Florida Eye Specialist & Laster Center. Dr Barber was recommended by another Doctor and I'm trilled with the results. Not to say he worked a miracle, but close to it with issues I had with my vision I. There are many good surgeons out there, but I was lucky to find a great one!

Arrived this morning at 7:50 for my 8:00 vision field test. This is a 10 minute test done by a technician. The technician was not there, the machine had not been turned on. I finally was called back for my 8 am appointment at 8:40, even though I was the only patient in the office. I work for a living and my time is valuable also. No respect for the patient's time!
