There are many potential causes of belly pain. Any pain that is severe or prolonged deserves a visit to the office. The information below is designed to help with suggestions for relief overnight for acute onset abdominal pain and to determine whether or not to seek emergency care for your child. A lot of families are figuring out what is the best option for school this fall for their kids. One option is homeschooling. Below is a list of online and local resources. There are also tons of non-online resources and curricula. My own kids (rising 6th, 9th and 12th) graders have primarily used non-online resources throughout their school years.
Recently we sat down and answered some of the most pressing questions we get from parents. One-year- olds are curious about most everything and try hard to explore the world around them. A typical 12-month- old: explores objects in many different ways (shaking, banging, throwing, dropping); finds hidden objects easily; looks at the correct picture when an image is named (i.e., will focus on a picture of a "dog" when asked); imitates gestures and sounds; and begins to use objects correctly (drinking from cup, brushing hair, dialing phone, listening to receiver).
The use of vaccines has led to major improvements in child health over a relatively short period. Immunizations have helped children stay healthy for more than 50 years. Many of the infectious illnesses you or your parents had as children, from chickenpox to polio to measles, no longer affect most children today.

The doctors are nice enough, but we never felt like they were that invested in our children. Even worse was the billing. In the process of adopting a child we needed to provide a medical exam for the child and, since it was a prerequisite for the adoption, we were not able to claim the child on our insurance yet. No problem, the practice provided us with a bill prior to the appointment so that we could see what the charges would be and pay in advance.
That is, until after the appointment when we received another bill. The office told us that they are unable to accurately estimate the cost of the visit before the appointment because the exam services are often different from the estimate. How can it be that a routine exam would not have an accurate estimate? I can assure you the doctor did not do anything outside of the routine exam.
In addition, they charged us to sign the adoption medical exam that we filled out for them but did not tell us about this charge until we called to ask if it was ready for pick up. Overall, huge headache of a practice to work with.

I've been taking my kids there since my first son was born over 5 years ago. We've always had a really good experience with the doctors, nurses and other staff. I really love that the doctors take the time to sit down during well check visits and actually answer questions without rushing on to the next patient. I also really like the fact that you can call for advice.
They usually have to have a nurse call back but whenever I've done that, the nurse has always called back really quickly. I feel that my children's health is very safe in the hands of the staff at this practice.

We moved to Northern Virginia in 2005. We had tried another pediatric practice which was a disaster. At that time I was acquainted with Dr. Fogarty as another mom on the soccer sideline. When I found out she was a pediatrician, it was a no brainer to switch our children to her practice. We've never regretted the move as both of our children received excellent care by the entire practice.
Our children never balked about being taken to the doctor and continue to have positive memories of being cared for at South Riding. In fact, neither of them particularly wanted to leave the practice when they became adults!

My daughter is now 4, we now have a 2nd child and looking back at it, my daughter was always at this doctors office since she was 3 months old. Every time we came to the office for the check-ups and the walk-ins for my daughter's issues we were always told "She'll grow out of it". Now as first time parents we listened to the advice of these doctors.
As she got older her symptoms grew much worse to the point where she ended up having surgery for ear tubes and her adenoids removed at the age of 18 months. I can't speak to the doctors now but I will say this, if any of these doctors tell you "don't worry your kids will grow out of it" RUN! LEAVE THAT OFFICE AND NEVER GO BACK! I say this with emphasis because we relocated to a new area and my 2nd child had the same symptoms but a much better doctor who listened to us and provided the care needed. So please take it from me, you don't pay these doctors to brush your concerns off. Find doctors who will listen.

I have been driving 45 minutes out of my way to take my 3 children to this practice for 16 years. You will find none better. I went through no less than 6 pediatricians before finally finding Dr. John. He is not only, kind, funny, caring and patient but most importantly his knowledge in unsurpassed. He has diagnosed very unique health issues and then expertly assisted us in finding ways to either cure them or work around them. I recommend him and his team to everyone who asks for a referral.

Patient, kind & professional! My daughter is a nervous wreck for every appointment, nurse Casey is able to quickly ease her stress and is very thorough with her exams. I'm sure others will agree this is not always the case with other nurses in the practice and also appreciate nurse Casey's mannerisms. Add to the list of greatness in this office, Dr. Dina!
We can't say enough about her, she's just an amazing doctor. From the more emergent health concerns to the endless colds & ear infections, we always felt confident in the diagnosis from Dr. Dina, and appreciated her thoughtful yet professional responses to our questions & concerns.

We love South Riding Pediatrics! From the first time they saw our newborn in the hospital, to sick days for the kiddos, and annual check ups.they've been the best. We've seen almost every doctor, each one has a special ability to make our kids feel at ease. You can't go wrong with any of them. My sister switched her kids to SR Peds after always hearing how great they are with us and shes been thrilled with the entire staff.

Overall, this is a good place. Dr. John, in particular, is a really good Pediatrician. We've been bringing our baby here since she was born, and it's almost 4 yrs now. For some reason we feel either because of our comfort with him or his personality, Dr. John does a consistent job. With a couple of other Doctors (not taking any names here), although they're very seasoned, we didn't get that comfort.
The front desk staff & Nurse Practioners like Usa & Angie are cordial & understanding. There was one billing issue we had because of another Doctor's service, but again, in the grand scheme of things, we can live with it.
