Dr. Steven's and crew did an amazing job with surgery and pain management. Although my wife's fracture was serious the surgery was quick and Dr. Steven's called me as soon as it was over and informed me of the details and success. My wife and I greatly appreciate Dr. Steven's honesty and assurance that all would be well. Great job Tucson Orthopaedic Institute!

With a severe /painful case of Plantar Fascists I was able to get a rather quick appmt with Amy Irwin NP. She was super professional explaining every reason for my condition & the solutions. Rec'd a shot in area of pain & felt 95% better the next day. Should be 100% by weeks end. Amy deserves an Employer Of The Week award.

Love my doctor but don't like the fact I drove all the way from Sierra Vista to an appointment I arrived 30 minutes early to that got canceled that morning and couldn't get me in to see a different doctor. Waited over a month to make this appointment. Very disappointed in their poor way of handling things. Spent a lot of money on gas for nothing.

A.k.a. Curtis Schwend. I went to Tucson Ortho because I injured my arm and needed help. I got off to a rocky start with the first doctors I saw and I wasn't happy about it. Big thank you to Kate Cullen, director of operations for seeing there was an issue and handling it quickly, well done! She set me up with the outstanding surgical team of Dr. Chris Stevens and NP Nora Sanchez, they were kind, respectful, and did a great job with my reconstructive arm surgery. I just finished with physical therapy and am now done at Tucson Ortho and my arm works!

I recently met with Mario Munoz, PA-C, for my follow up appointment from my nerve ablation procedures on both sides of my back. It was an excellent experience from beginning to end. He the wonderful combination of being compassionate and efficient. Answers to my questions were easy to understand with good suggestions about how to manage my condition. I will return for a consult about my upcoming MRI and look forward to seeing him again.

I have been seeing various doctors here since moving to Tucson 6 years ago. The doctors are great. So why 1 Star, because today for the 3rd time in the last few months my appointment was messed up. Out of the 3 times once I showed up only to find that TOI had cancelled my appointment without notifying me. The 2nd time just a week and a half ago I called in the morning of my appointment only to be told that TOI arbitrarily cancelled the appointment, again without notifying me. It was rescheduled for today. Again I showed up only to be told that my doctor was not in today. No phone call or any other type of communication. UNSAT.

Excellent visit. Staff was hospitable and appreciated the visit. D, r. Thompson was very well educated, transparent and worked hard to ensure I understood what was taking place. His bedside manner made my visit so much more comfortable than I expected. I will return and advise my friends in need to visit also

TOI (and Dr Norris) are excellent! From check in to next appointment scheduling took about an hour-and I was very early for my appointment! And yet, nothing felt rushed. Dr Norris answered all my questions, explained next steps, and was extremely clear about everything. I couldn't ask for a better visit!

Dr Thompson is THE best Dr you can go to for hand/wrist problem. While in S Dakota I started having problems with right wrist and hand. Dr there told me IF he operated on it it would have to be put in a fixed position. NOT HAPPENING. Returned to Tucson and went to Dr Thompson. Not needing surgery. Thankfully. Thank you Dr Joel Thompson. Still say you are the best

Receiving medical help for my shoulder issues from Dr. Stevens and Nora Sanchez, NP, has been a very positive experience. Both Ms. Sanchez and Dr. Steven's are extremely knowledgeable regarding the shoulder joint and the SITS muscles and tendons. Equally important, they are able to explain diagnostic results and treatment options in terms a patient can understand. Finally, they do this in a most polite and patient manner. Dealing with medical issues is rarely fun and often stressful. This orthopedic team should give clinics on successful patient management. Many thanks!

This is the 2nd shoulder surgery Dr Stevens has done for me. Rotator cuff on my right shoulder 4 years ago. That went so well that I came back to him for a left shoulder replacement this year. So far so good. Dr Stevens has pleasant demeanor, willing takes the time to explain what is going to happen and what to expect. He has been willing to answer my many questions. My wife had hand surgery done by him and was also pleased.

Dr. Thompson is great and his staff is tremendous. I was running late for my first appointment at TOI and they were understanding and very professional. They handled my paperwork efficiently and with little delay. Once in the exam room I was seen quickly. Dr Thompson was very thorough in his questions and examination. He instructed me in home exercises and allowed time for any questions I had. It was a pleasure to see him

The Northwest office was given a referral by my GP at the beginning of the month. I was told that TOI would call me in a week to make an appointment. It is now the end of the month with no call from them. So I called to make an appointment and was placed on hold for 5 minutes and the recording came on telling me they are too busy to take my call. I was asked to leave my name and someone will call me back. Very poor service and not very professional. I have doubts about going to this place.

Professional in a Covid crisis, very helpful, this is my First thought with any knee problems. Had meniscus tear, looked like confetti, fixed a few years ago by Dr. Petrow. Has extended use and longeivity of this knee tenfold. I could not be more pleased if this was my only contact with Dr. Petrow. However, the other knee was completely replaced yesterday by Dr. Petrow and Robbie the Robot and Im estatic!
In and out 4 hrs, walking today Minimal discomfort, stiffness and soreness. PT tomorrow and recovery time should be weeks instead of months. Thank you Tuc Ortho and Dr. Petrow for everything. 6+ Stars

I sought an orthopaedic doctor to diagnose my knee pain, so I made an appointment with Dr. Dewald at Tucson Orthopaedic Institute. The x-rays showed arthritis, and Dr. Dewald recommended stem cell injections, which would not be covered by insurance and would run between $3000-$5000 and no guarantee of success. I informed him that I had received some other injections (I think they were sucrose) in the past from a chiropractor in Oregon, and my insurance had paid for them. Also, they had helped my knee. Dr. Dewald said that insurance would positively NOT cover them, and they would not be willing to try.
If I wanted these injections, I would have to pay $700 each up front. He said the only thing he could do for me would be to give me a cortisone injection and simultaneously draw out a little fluid, to which I said yes. The procedure was a simple injection that took about three minutes, and I was sent on my way. The injection did nothing, and I just received a statement from my insurance company indicating they had been billed for surgery, and my copay would be $150 in addition to the $40 copay I forked over for the appointment. I am thoroughly disgusted with the treatment I received and will never go back there.

2:18/20 - Finally an appointment they could find in the system. Austin was nice today at check in. Laura was very nice and thorough logging in my history. 2/17/20 - Not too happy with the scheduling department. Had to cancel another appointment to make today's appointment with Dr Shapiro. Arrived and they couldn't find my appointment in their system.
Then they found my appointment for an hour before the time they originally gave me over the phone They had my birthday wrong in their system. Scheduled me for the next day. I hope Dr Shapiro is more organized than the office. I will update my review after my new appointment with the doctor.

Have had weakness and pain in hands post valley fever. Go to appointment I'm immediately xrayed put in room doctor Shapiro walks in. Looks at X-ray nothing obvious on it. Proceeds to TELL me I've got "good strength and rotation and no neurological issues" I interrupted him saying I have dizzy spells too thinking he was looking at notes from primary bc how would he KNOW I have "good rotation and strength" he NEVER TOUCHED MY HANDS!
Then he writes that in my chart! I was rushed out after 3 minutes in the room w him as he sat hunched over the table never examining me. I called office manager immediately after. No call back for days when I call her again following week she say "dr Shapiro said he remembers putting his hands on you" told her then have him do it again, bc HE NEVER TOUCHED ME.
Better than me going to a different doc for a thorough exam and complaining to insurance. Nope shapiro said he stands by his "exam" calling me a liar. soooo he's either a quack or too rushed to give good patient care. The reviews speak for themselves on TOI. I'd give no stars if possible. How rushed is he post surgery? Geesh. What does he lie about on surgical cases? Covered his incompetent butt for sure.

I played football and baseball in college. At 68 years old I could barely lift my shoulders up and the pain was keeping me up at night. I had previously tried injections which immediately worked like a miracle but the time it was effective kept decreasing from the initial 2 1/2 months to about a month. The pain became more intense and I was hesitant to have shoulder replacements and thought I would just have to live with it.
My 6 year old grandson came to live with us and I wanted to be able to play catch but couldn't lift my right arm high enough to throw and the pain was too great anyways. I met Dr. Tad Dewald who told me about the stem cell treatments. I felt I had nothing to lose and gave it a try. Fast forward 4 months and I'm now playing catch, pitching to my grandson for batting practice and sleeping with no pain through the night. I am completely satisfied with the results and the treatment I received and TOI.

One star is too much. Came in for a first visit. Saw Tad Dawald and Jesse Wild. Dr. Dewald gave a cortisone injection for excruciating pain but neglected to say it would prevent knee sugery. Got hopes up that pain would be relieved and surgery would be in a few days. Saw Jesse Wilda couple of days later. Thought this doctor was doing surgery. He advised there could be no surgery since a cortisone injection had been given. Wow.
Way to communicate, fellas. Not only that, might have checked with PCP or cardiologist too. By pass patients cannot have surgery without a release from cardiologist. Total breakdown in medical communication between doctors. Why does every doctor take down a patient's life history and the NOT SHARE IT! Doctors; you need to do your jobs better! Tucson Orthopaedic Institute is NOT a recommend. They don't communicate with other doctors, among themselves nor do they do patient care research.

Nope nope and nope. Let me start off by saying I was told this place is the best in town IF you need a knee or hip replacement. However I wasn't sure what I needed I just knew I was in a lot of pain. I had no problems with the front office staff and got checked in easily. I didn't wait long past my scheduled appointment before I was seen.
Those are the good things - now for the bad. I saw Dr. Petrow who actually interrupted me while I was explaining my knee problem history and then he actually said to me "I cut people so what do you expect me to do for you? I can't help you". My diagnosis is medial osteoarthritis both knees but I'm not quite bone on bone yet so I'm not at the point where I need replacement.
I was appalled a doctor treated me as rudely as this one did. I felt like I was part of a factory - get them in, get them out and if you can't cut them, which is where the big money is, get them gone. Dr Petrow didn't take the time to listen, I felt not heard and not validated and I got very minimal info on suggestions for dealing with my pain.
I will NOT return and will go get a 2nd opinion elsewhere with someone who listens and gives advice, not a ten minute "not much I can do because you are not a candidate for surgery". The other reviews are from 2014 and 2015. Things sure are different now.
