Dr. Maltzman is an excellent physician and surgeon in his field. I went to see him for cataracts and would recommend him highly to anyone in need for this care. I'm seeing 85% better after surgery in both eyes and will get glasses to make up the difference. Dr. Maltzman's office is extremely organized from the beginning to the end of the procedure. Special thanks to Heather and all of the surgery Gals, too numerous to name them all! It was truly a 5-star experience.

I couldn't be happier with the care I received at FBMH & Associates. I had cataract surgery on both eyes, three weeks apart, performed by Dr. Maltzman. The entire process was seamless and without complications. The staff is very knowledgeable and professional. I felt completely safe in Dr. Maltzman's highly skilled hands. My two week post op check up was with Dr. Mecom. He was great too. I also referred my neighbor and son to them. They too were very happy with their care. We were sorry to hear Dr. Mecom is retiring. But, happy for him too!

I had Dr. Maltzman perform cataract surgery on both my eyes in January and March 2022. I have been wearing bifocal glasses for years. The reading correction had reached 375 and the distance 175. I also developed a yellowish tinge to my vision as a result of the cataracts, something I didn't realize until after the first surgery and lens implant in my right eye.
I chose the mono lenses for distance because Medicare covered those completely. The trifocal or Symphony lenses are $3000 each which Medicare does not cover. The first surgery went perfectly, the result being excellent 20/15 vision! Honestly, I was blown away at the improvement in my vision! I also believe that Dr. Maltzman was somewhat surprised based on his comments after my second cataract surgery.
I could see everything clearly within about 2 feet without correction (glasses), and whites were WHITE again, no yellowish tinge. The second surgery two months later went very well also. However, I experienced bruising around the eye socket and minor edema in the eyeball. Neither of these were a big issue with me. The bruising was probably due to my having eaten aspirin several days before the surgery.
Unfortunately I probably won't get the exceptional vision in my left eye that I got in the right, but it's still excellent. I'll know more in a week at my two-week follow up, but I'm resigned to probably having 20/20 in my left eye. Hey, that's normal good vision. I am so glad that I decided to have the cataracts removed and new lenses implanted. And I know I chose a fantastic surgeon in Dr. Maltzman.
He explained everything in sufficient detail prior to the operations. And he and his team performed exceptionally well. I will still have to wear reading glasses. This I was well aware of when choosing the monocular lenses. I decided against having one eye done as distance and the other for reading. I know a lot about stereo vision due to my profession where I examined stereo aerial photographs.
You see stereo, or three-dimensional views, because you see something from two slightly different directions with TWO EYES. I wasn't willing to risk compromising my 3-D vision with different mono lenses in each eye. I can deal with wearing reading glasses. If you choose to have Dr. Maltzman perform cataract surgery on your eyes, rest assured that you are choosing someone that you can have complete confidence in.
You need to know this going in because someone will be carving on your eyeballs and affecting one of your primary senses! Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage anyone to have cataracts removed and have confidence that the result will be favorable and to your advantage.

I had cataract surgery in both eyes with Dr. Maltzman. I can't believe how well I can see now! I am 65 and I would encourage anyone to get it done early and not when your 80. All the colors are so much brighter! I can see again! I can't say enough about Dr Maltzman and the entire process. He is a wonderful surgeon and just an all around great guy!
His entire staff from the front desk to the nurses and schedulers are also great. A special thank you to Sergio who measured my eyes for the lenses. He is kind.super knowledgeable and really good at his job! I can't recommend this staff enough! They are fabulous. all of them!

I had Cataract surgery in both eyes recently. Dr. Maltzman did a great job. I am very happy with the results. The whole procedure is well thought out to assure patient comfort through the process. The eye drops assure the healing process proceeds without infection and with comfort. Thanks also to the technicians who checked my eye health and acuity. Thanks to Heather who adjusted my schedule to match my son's work schedule so he could drive me to and from my home.

Dr. Hunter and his staff at the Oro Valley office, their main office and surgery center are fantastic. Everyone was cheerful, explained every step of the surgical process and they were all very kind. I was very nervous to have the cataract surgery but Dr Hunter and his staff made it easy. Thanks for your great care!

Similar to the most recent experiences in terms of being told that the copay would be $50 while making the appointment, again while at the front desk.then was asked for $150. Was told that I had a $100 charge for contact fitting. I told the woman that I asked and confirmed twice. She said everyone knows that contacts are NOT essential. I literally called and came for one thing.
This was very frustrating. I'm more frustrated that I heard people in the room state, "She has aetna so lets do this." This was very unprofessional. Will need to change locations as well. Not thrilled about how this played out.

I was super excited to get new glasses and trying a new Optometrist. I was able to get in early due to a cancelled appointment. When speaking with the representative, I exchanged insurance information and was informed that the exam would be paid for but that I would need to pay $55.00 for the prescription. Umm okay. It is strange that I need to pay an additional amount to receive my prescription and that the prescription is not part of the exam.
It's strange because what other doctor would even attempt to get away with this process?! Day of the exam: the exam rooms are super dirty and the office smells like a combination of body odor and mold. When I checked out I was told that I owed $208.00. What? I explained that the person that I spoke with told me the total fee would be $55.00. The representative's response was that I should know my medical coverage.
I explained that I do know my coverage and I also know what I was told by their office. Every attempt to explain that this was caused by their error in not training people properly only to be deflected by stating that I should know my coverage. I stated that maybe they should train people to offer the correct information to potential patients. No attempt at an apology for their error at all. If they can screw up a basic eye exam this much who would even trust them with anything more serious.

I am changing eye doctors and will never come back to this practice. The doctors are very good but the medical assistants and front staff who answer phone calls and make appointments are terrible. They are abrupt, insensitive, and frequently rude. I need to have laser eye surgery and was not treated with any care or concern by Veronica. I was told by the doctor whom I saw a week ago that if I did not hear from his scheduler Ashley to call the office this week and speak to her. Veronica who answered my call told me the scheduler often takes two weeks or more to call a patient about scheduling a procedure and that she would call me when its my turn.
I am having extreme difficulty seeing and told Veronica that her answer was not acceptable. She would not transfer my call to Ashley the surgery scheduler or let me leave a message. I was very upset by this and angry. I will be seeing another ophthalmologist to have the laser surgery I need. Every patient has the right to be treated with courtesy and respect. This office does not do that!

Absolute terrible service. These guys are not on the same page with each other. I went to these 2 offices because I got referred from my visit to the emergency room, it stated within 1-2 day. I went the next day(friday). UHC was approved but they told me it would take 24-72 hours to update in the systems. I relayed this information to the offices and repeatedly asked if they can bill the visit and when insurance takes in they would take care of it.
I was told no absolutely not so I rescheduled for monday. Today(monday) I got a call from the office, they said that they still cannot verify my coverage she assured they have the most updated system. I called UHC the very next minute and they confirmed that I had coverage since the beginning of the month. The clerk for lag of a better term gave me 2 options this time.
Self pay or get billed for the visit. I was furious. I asked why I was not allowed the bill to insurance option on Friday while I was within my referral days. She said "my boss said that is a not a recommended option" like what a damn joke this office is. If bill to insurance is not recommended in an emergency situation when in heck would it be. I am extremely confused as to why it was up to this persons boss if i should go blind or not that day. I just really hope that someone else does not have to go through this mess again especially in an emergency situation. Avoid it and find a better office.
