The Pediatric center was founded by Dr. Charles Hicks, and his first office was a room at the Babies Hospital on the Intracoastal Waterway before building this current office adjacent to the newly built hospital across town in 1967. For over 50 years, it has been recognized as one of Wilmington's cornerstones for primary pediatric care. Dr. Charles Hicks was a pioneer in the care of children here in Wilmington, and his heartwarming smile and easy bedside manner reassured many worried parents over the decades.

To sign up for a New Mom & Dad Class, call our office during business hours at (910) 762-2651 for upcoming dates. Please note, this class is not mandatory to become a patient at our practice. If you would like to see your practice before you deliver, we offer a New Mom & Dad Class once a month. Though they are not required to join our practice, it is a fun and interactive hour where you can visit our office while we go over what will happen in the hospital and cover the first two weeks of what life is like with a new little bundle of joy in the house.
We are an office that prides itself on providing qualilty medicine with a personal touch, and this is reflected in our Mission Statement. But what does that mean, really? We are single, privately owned office, that does not have satellite clinics that place our doctors and staff in multiple locations, thereby diluting your continuity of care.
Our mission is to build the best possible pediatric practice, which serves its patients in important ways with a personal approach, while reflecting the practical application of biblical values. People: We encourage the growth and well being of each employee, so that we can build and maintain solid relationships among ourselves, our families, our patients and our community.
Our electronic medical record, eClinicalWorks, has the ability for our patients to log on to eClinicalWeb and conveniently access their own medical information anytime, anywhere. You can now download Healow, the free app that works with eClinicalWeb. Healow allows you to have access to your child's medical information anytime, anywhere!

This place, hands down, was the best experience my child and I have ever experienced thus far! Dr. Jackson took his time with my son and asked many questions and gave great sound advice! I'm so grateful that they were able to accept us into their care! I feel great about coming back if need be and for future well visits for both my children.

This practice is top notch. We've got 2 (4,6) and have been with this practice since the oldest was born. I have never questioned their expertise and trust every doctor in the practice. Their knowledge, bedside manner, and generally fun environment are a breath of fresh air. Their staff is congenial, smart, and great with the kids. I've never been told they wouldn't see my girls same day or the following for a sick (non emergent) visit which I find incredible. in fact, as someone who frequently has to tell my own patients I literally have 0 extra minutes for yet another non emergency, I want to know how in the world they do their schedule. If you're looking for a great set of incredibly knowledgeable doctors, a phenomenal staff, and a wonderful environment, look no further!

Group was recommended to me by two people. I called as I am expecting my second child and looking for a pediatrician. I was asked who my first child's pediatrician is and was told "unfortunately we don't take transfer patients." I thought she may be confused so I repeated the fact that I am not looking for a pediatrician for my first child, just the baby I'm expecting.
Her exact words were "ok well we don't take patients with siblings." As if that wasn't bizarre enough, I then pointed out the fact that one of the perks in all the recommendations I received was I wouldn't even have to call to establish as a patient ahead of time as they do rounds at the hospital and I could simply request them at L & D and be added to their rounds.
Imagine the surprise I would have received had I gone that route. She acted confused by that and stated snarkily that they don't do rounds at the hospital. Seemed odd that more than one person, including a nurse at my OBGYN would have the same misinformation so I perused their site. This is copied and pasted directly from their website: "If you would like one of The Pediatric Center's pediatricians to be your baby's doctor, you can simply tell the staff on the obstetrics floor at NHRMC Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital when you check in that you want Dr. Edwards, Dr. Player, Dr. Jackson, or Dr. Renton for your pediatrician.
Your baby will actually be assigned to us before he or she is ever born! When you do deliver, your baby will appear on our rounding list automatically in the hospital data base that we access frequently from the office or home." If this is no longer the case or never was, it should be removed. If I went in to deliver without being established and was told after giving birth, "sorry, your baby isn't good enough to be a patient of ours because she has a sibling" I think I'd blow through the roof. Thankfully I'm a prepper and called ahead of time. Definitely not somewhere I'd recommend based off of not only that illogical policy but the conflicting information from the staff.

My 6 year old has been to this practice since he was born! They are truly the best pediatricians in the Wilmington area! Both the doctors and staff are not only incredibly knowledgeable but they are incredibly caring and kind. If you are looking for a pediatrician stop everything and come here. You will not be disappointed!

All of the doctor's are friendly but the wait time can be excruciating especially with a toddler. Waited an hour and 20 min and was only seen after my child was beyond upset and tired and said that I had to leave. This is not the first time I have waited over 45 min to be seen with an appointment. I get that it's busy but stop over booking or cancel the appointment instead of wasting my time.
