Was reviewing my Yelps and thought an update might be in order. As per my prior review, my experience here was terrible. But I failed to mention that not only did they the staff and physician treat me really badly, they also misdiagnosed me with a "functional" or psychogenic neurological disorder. Translation: "It's all in your head." Well, yes, it did turn out to be in my head because I was subsequently diagnosed by competent professionals with autoimmune encephalitis (Brain on Fire). Antibodies were attacking my brain. Nice to get blamed for that.

For many years I searched for a neurologist who not only listened, but had compassion. A neurologist who was more focused on each individuals needs and not blanket care that was one size fits all. Rowe Neurology went above and beyond to find the correct diagnosis. Their staff is great and I will never trust my neurological care to anyone else.

As a patient with multiple sclerosis it was very important for me to find a doctor who take time to listen and address all my concerns to provide the best treatment. Dr. Rowe and his staff have been taking excellent care of me for 3 years now. Even though it is bit of a long drive from where I live I can't imagine ever going anywhere else. They do their own in-house testing and imaging on site at The Institute which means faster results and lower prices.
The only negative thing I have to say is it can be very difficult to get in contact with them over the phone. It is usually faster to use their online patient porthole to schedule appointments or talk to a nurse on staff and sometimes it can take a while before they get back to you. You often have to schedule appointments way in advance because they are are so busy but keep in mind they are busy for a reason. My primary care physician recommended dr. Rowe because he is the best multiple sclerosis specialists in the region.

Stay away from this nightmare! My husband started the process for sleep apnea in October, 2 sleep studies done didn't get results until February after I called numerous times for results. Finally had results sent to another office since he now works out of town and he has to do an3rd sleep study for other test they did not do which should have. My husband looks like a zombie and they take their sweet time.

In my experience, quality of patient care has gone down in the past 2 years, Dr. Rowe is always out and if you're required to be seen by a doctor or your prescription requires a doctor signature you can never be sure when you'll have to wait on the doctor being to be back in the office. There's no notification or anything regarding the doctor being out, you just find out when you contact the doctor's office and then you're out of luck.

I was given an appointment upon calling and was seen two days later. Dr Rowe appeared to be sincere and competent. My primary concern was my severe migraine headaches. I was informed that Dr Winegardner was the specialist to see. However, before seeing him, Dr Rowe ordered X-rays and a CT scan that could only be done in his office. He also told me that my fibromyalgia was atrash can diagnosis and that I had hyper mobility which could only be treated by the physical therapist in his office.
He also said I needed a sleep study because he thought I had sleep apnea. I ended up having two sleep studies which said I had sleep apnea. I was ordered a c-pap machine. I was thoroughly tested by a reputable sleep doctor years ago who said I did not have sleep apnea. But I accepted Dr Rowe's diagnosis because of his supposed expertise. It took nearly a month before I could see Dr Winegardner while my migraines continued, which was my primary concern.
He was aggressive with medication but seemed to be just experimenting with drugs. He said he would see me in a month. When I went out to make my return appointment, I was informed the Dr Winegardner was leaving the practice and that patients were being referred to KU Med or St Luke's. He never mentioned that during the appointment. When I saw Dr Rowe for a follow up, he said it was probably a blessing that Dr Winegardner was leaving because my migraines would be relieved by c-pap and physical therapy done only at his office.
I began researching this practice which I should have done in the first place. I found out that Dr Rowe is not respected by other neurologists at the premiere hospitals in Kansas City and that his sleep studies are considered to be invalid and just a ploy to make money. I have changed doctors and found out that my migraine medications were prescribed wrong. This clinic is designed to make money at the expense of people's well being. Do not go here!

I had a sleep study, MRI, MRA, and EEG done here. I was treated well. I had no billing issues. Nurse Practitioner Oshea spent a hour listening to problems I had. She gave me suggestions that worked. This is very uncommon in health care today. I believe Nurse Oshea really cares about her patients. I would definitely recommend Rowe Neurology to anyone.

Dr. Rowe and his staff are the best! The care and compassion i have received there over the years has been a great help to me. I have received amazing care and 7 years into my MS diagnosis I am holding steady and not physically declining. They also helped tremendously with my migraine and chronic back and neck pain.

I'm puzzled by some of the negative reviews. I had no trouble scheduling appointments. All phone calls were returned promptly. The patient portal works beautifully for communication with the Institute once you are a patient. I strongly recommend using the patient portal! When I requested that my records be sent elsewhere for a second opinion regarding neurosurgery (which Dr. Rowe supported), all of my records were faxed the same day I made the request.
My experience with the Institute was very positive. Staff members, doctors, and technicians were all friendly, responsive, and professional. All procedures were explained clearly. Dr. Rowe is highly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. Yes, I had several tests but how else do complex symptoms get understood? I'd be very uncomfortable with a diagnosis that wasn't in part determined by objective data.

I traveled to Rowe Neurology Institute from Wisconsin, for help with hypermobility, headaches and joint pain. Dr. Rowe was the first doctor I've seen in 6 years that didn't make me feel like he was guessing at my diagnosis. The Rowe team was outstanding in getting me all of the testing that I needed in a tight timeframe. Both the office staff and the sleep study staff were outstanding. I can't say enough good things about this group.

Don't go here. Go anywhere else in Kansas City if you can. Especially for sleep. I experienced multiple incompetencies from admin. Missed booking, shady and incorrect billing, multiple sleep studies, and only visited the doctor once. Received some bs diagnosis of hypermobility, which only affects 5 percent of the population. I'm of healthy weight, diet, and exercise, and this came out of the blue and he went no further in diagnosis.
You are pushed along and only viewed as a dollar sign. Went to am ENT and came to find out my allergies and asthma were the issue. Received no recommendation to see any of these doctors from Rowe.

Nope. Terrible. Please do not waste your money here. This place is very cookie-cutter and the staff has little to no knowledge about anything medical-related. Recommended the same tests for my friend and I. Let me think I had a brain aneurysm when I didn't. Took 2 weeks to let me know and left my results on a voicemail. Then I just went to send my doctor an email and got a message back that he was no longer with the practice. That's how I found out.
One review said they wished they could leave negative stars. I completely agree. We also coughed up a HUGE payment up front which they have not acknowledged and keep trying to bill us for. STAY FAR AWAY. Also, NO expertise in Hypermobility issues!

I have been seeing Doug Schnell at Rowe Neurology Institute for over a year. I am extremely pleased with Doug's attention to my MS and my concerns. He gets right back to me when I have a question or problem.even on weekends! My original neurologists office did not have email and I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the Rowe Institute and was informed that they did. I have never been treated any way but very nice by everyone at Rowe Neurology Institute!

I went here once and will not be going back. All of their treatment options are very expensive and they only want their imaging. I had recent imaging from another neurologist but they insisted I needed more. I finally found a GP at my doctor's office that has been treating headaches for twenty years and they have been better managed under him than two of the three neurologists I've seen, simply because he listens and treats accordingly.
At RNI, they don't listen, they just tell. Every single staff member I saw there from admin to nurse to Dr. Rowe told me what I needed without taking the time to listen to my concerns or medical history.

There are times you have to wait in an office and feel it is just because you are in a cattle call. Not with Dr. Rowe. You have to wait, but you understand when he is with you that you have his full and undivided attention. I went to 3 Neurologists before I found one I trusted. The other 2 dismissed me without an exam, but Dr. Rowe took the time and finally found my diagnosis.
I also went through his sleep lab, something I hate to do, but have to because of my sleep apnea. I have been to many sleep labs in my day, but this is the first one that I felt comfortable and was able to sleep. The staff was so gentle and gracious, I felt at home. Very professional and the room and bed was clean and comfortable. Add to that on-site MRI and lab, it is a great one stop shop with great customer service and quality care.

I had my initial consultation prior to reading the online reviews and admittedly got a little nervous as a result.there are some snarky folks out there. At the end of the day, it boils down to this: Dr Rowe is a very talented and well-versed doctor and he listened, he gave feedback, he allowed me to be a very active participant in the process and THAT is what matters.
I came into my second appointment, received the results of various tests and then WE decided what the next steps would be. I'd definitely recommend him. A doctor who listens and hears? Yes, please! The fifth star? Well, there's no getting around the oddities encountered with some of the staff, but they also seem to be in-tune with it as I receive surveys inquiring as to how I was treated in the different department. Kudos to them for trying to get that insight and I always complete the surveys.

I have been with Rowe Neurology for several year's. Dr. Rowe along with his PA Doug Schnell have turned my Multiple Sclerosis around. Along with the great knowledge about MS. and the tools of the trade(MRI's connection with the drug company's, etc.) RNI also deals with other Neurological diseases including: Alzheimer's, Sleep Apnea, Migraine Head Aches. RNI can deal with anything that comes up or they known who to call to help.

This place is a joke- I wasted 3 months with them. They are very caring and nice when you first go in, after they run every test possible and exhaust your money they are done. I had zero follow up. My pain is the same as before if not worse. I did not want pain meds if possible, I wanted answers. I didn't get answers - they prescribed pain meds.

Drs. Rowe and Winegarner helped me go from having one migraine a week to one or fewer per month. They first performed a battery of tests on me--including an MRI of the brain, nerve conduction, blood work, and sleep study--to rule out possible causes of my migraines. In the end, I was successfully treated with a combination of medications and physical therapy. I've never had a problem with staff or the doctors, although I can see how folks might find a couple of the staff somewhat "abrasive." Nevertheless, I credit these docs. with giving me my life back. Fewer migraines has meant that I can finish grad school and focus on my family and work.

I was so encouraged and full of hope after meeting with Dr. Rowe. I did all the things requested of me, agreed to all of the tests, etc. However, I began having issues with the office staff the minute Dr. Rowe left my room and the girl who was in charge of moving my paperwork to get me out of the office "forgot" about me. Another woman came in and apologized saying that the girl who forgot about me was new.
No sweat, I was thrilled that I was finally getting help. Long story short, the office is blaming a technical problem for the reason that they were not receiving my voicemails and were not returning my calls. I was hung up on by one of their staff members, when I complained about this & said that I did not want to do any tests moving forward that RNI did not have a preauth for but that I did want to have my botox (for migraines) done because Amber, (who was consistently a great help) and I had worked very hard to get my preauth moved, Rose told me that I could not do that and was being dismissed from their practice as a patient.
Please people, read ALL of the reviews that are out there for this practice before going. I did and went anyways because they came highly recommended to me from one person. Unfortunately, that one person's experience seems to have been the exception where all of the negative reviews seem to give a very accurate portrayal of how RNI handles their business and clients.

I suppose Dr Rowe is friendly enough, but that is the only nice thing I can say about this group. I got rather rude treatment, unnecessary tests and an MRI that isn't as clear as it should be because Dr Rowe told me it was important to control the thickness of the slices(per another neurologist who wasn't impressed). I was referred to their physical therapists, who were booking 2 to 3 months out. What a racket! You have to use THEIR physical therapists, and MRI. I cannot recommend strongly enough that you avoid this group!

I found Dr. Rowe to be very thorough during a recent consultation at his office in Lenexa. He answered all of my questions, was very clear about cause and treatment, and even suggested other reasons I may be feeling pain. I have been to several neurologists over the years, and Dr. Rowe is by far the best. A good portion of my treatments for my neurological issues were overseas in Germany where I found the doctors to be above and beyond any I had seen in the States.
Until I was seen by Dr. Rowe. He was just as thorough and precise as the German doctors I had seen overseas. Best of all, he listened to what I was saying and within 10 minutes understood my patient history and could review it clearly with me. This is more than 90% of the neurologists/MD's that I have seen in the past 10 years. He is very professional and knowledgable, and obviously likes his job (which makes for a much more pleasant patient experience). In addition, all the facilities I could need are under one roof there at RNI - convenience!
