I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS MEDICAL OFFICE TO ANYONE. I Give this place ONE star review. Doctors are professional. However BILLING is shady, make sure they write down every penny they will charge for your procedure, since one thing they will say at the beginning and then they will charge you something different. Very dissapointed going to this place, l paid all out of my pocket $2300, since they failed to submit all that was necessary for approval from my insurance.

They dont disclose that once you make an appointment for procedure at this place $250 are NOT refundable, lack of professionalism and Communication. Elsa the person at billing is rude, unprofessional, she should get a job some place else, she provides a poor costumer service, unkind, poor communication skills. Services at this place are no charity, nor even cheap, they treat you like they are doing you a favor. Stay away from this office and take your procedure expectations and money to some other vascular doctor.

I was referred to Dr. Merchant by my trusted long time Doctor whom I have been seeing for over 20 years. I had been seriously injured, and the forced immobility caused varicose veins and the beginnings of venous ulcers in my legs and feet. I went in for my first appt., to Dr. Merchant at The Reno Vein Clinic and an ultrasound was preformed, I wrongly trusted Dr. Merchant right off.

He explained what could be done and what the likely results would be. I made the appointment to have the surgery done 20 days later as I was so anxious to have my legs back. I always had nice legs, not these ugly, painful purple bulging veins all over my inner legs and feet. I was assured that I would be put into Twilight Sleep for the procedure. I asked several times if that was in fact what would happen.

He mentioned that "Twilight Sleep" isn't total unconsciousness, which I knew. I've had 4 major surgeries and several minor ones. For example when having Oral Surgery one is put into Twilight Sleep. Not as deep as Sodium Pentathol but deep enough that it renders a person completely unaware. So, when I get there for the procedure I am asked to write the check for close to $7,000.00 cash since no vein Specialist in the West takes Medicare even though 78% of those who suffer with Varicose Veins are seniors.

Then I go in the back for the pre-op consult. That's when he tells me that I am not going to be given Twilight Sleep sedative after all. He insists that he explained fully that I would be conscious the entire time, which he didn't. I NEVER would have made the decision to have it done if I'd been aware of that. Now, after writing the check, and also the check I'd written when I made the surgery appt., a $250.00 non-refundable deposit.

He insists he explained fully that I would in fact be completely conscious the entire time so as to let them know if I am OK. What a load. He's been doing this for 2 decades. I was covered with sensors for heart rate, breathing, a blood pressure cuff etc., and the anesthesiologist in attendance the entire time. He's simply cheap. He assured me I would be made comfortable, which was a lie.

I get on the table and the IV is inserted & the supposed first shot of Versed is injected ( I don't believe any kind of sedative was used at all ) I said "that didn't relax me at all." Maryanne says she will give me more and pretends to do so several times during the procedure. I felt EVERY PPRICK in my legs, I felt the numbing meds go in, I felt the hot saline go in that closes off the vein, and during the entire thing the woman at my head never quit talking. Never.

If I would have been told the truth I would have taken a few Xanax before I went there. I know better than to think a few mgs. of Alprazolam would interfere with other sedatives, if in fact any were going to be administered. At least then I would have been calm. I held myself up with my hips the ENTIRE TIME. Not once was I relaxed or comfortable. Then the doc or someone says I've almost reached the limit of meds!

What a joke. The vast payment was supposed to include the sedative, which I was screwed out of. The next day I went for my post op check, removal of bandages and given a pair of compression hose. When I put them on they tore. I called to see if I could come and get another pair, yes, for $48.00. Just for your information they're way less on Amazon, same quality. So, the 7 grand doesn't even cover a second pair of compression hose.

The doc makes $3,500.00 an hour. Wow. He must live like an effing king. So, thanks a bunch Doc. Merchant for screwing me out of the only money my husband didn't steal. There are many vein doctors in the Western U.S. Choose a different one and be absolutely clear that you understand about what they try to make you believe twilight sleep is. I'm not trying to sound patronizing.

I have been around doctors my entire life. I though I had a real clue as to what to listen for and what to watch out for. I was proven wrong here. Find someone besides Merchant of you want to be told the truth.
