Our History of Caring is deeply embedded in the Southwest Florida community. Joseph P. Walker, M.D., F.A.C.S. founded Retina Consultants of Southwest Florida in 1980 when knowledge of retinal diseases was rapidly expanding. Retina Consultants was the first practice of its kind in the Southwest Florida area.
NORI places a high priority on its commitment to the advancement of medical research. Our team of physician specialists has a prestigious history of active participation with leading academic research institutions such as Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary's affiliated Schepens Eye Research Institute, where they serve on the clinical faculty.
Retina Specialists are different. Ophthalmology, like other medical practices, includes numerous sub-specialties. Some ophthalmologists specialize in the removal of cataracts, others in cosmetic/functional enhancements known as ocular plastic surgery. Additionally, ophthalmologists may prescribe glasses or perform laser surgery to correct near or farsightedness.
Retina Specialists are different. There are several sub-specialties in ophthalmology, including glaucoma, cataracts, and retina. A retina specialist is a medical doctor who has specialized in ophthalmology and sub-specialized in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous of the eye. Diagnosis of the retina and vitreous diseases should prompt a thorough examination that may require highly technical equipment and testing.
