Services
Shalom House offers hope for adults living with severe mental illness by providing an array of community-based mental health services and a choice of quality housing that help people lead stable and fulfilling lives in the community. Shalom House helps hundreds of people with serious mental illness each year by providing affordable housing where people can escape the stress of homelessness, hunger, and isolation.
Shalom House began in 1972 with one man's belief that there had to be a safe, caring place where people with mental illness could live in our community. Having watched his brother Torsten's painful journey through various family member homes to mental hospitals and shelters, Birger Johnson, one of Shalom House's founders, dreamed of creating "a place halfway between."
Shalom House's Board of Directors brings a wide variety of expertise to their work on the board. Included are bankers, developers, mental health professionals, accountants, lawyers, financial directors, and nonprofit directors. Several of our members have supported family members and loved ones through the difficulties of living with a mental illness.
Shalom House offers Community Rehabilitation Services (CRS) services to help our clients gain the skills and confidence they need to achieve their own goals and to successfully reintegrate into the community. Shalom House provides a choice of affordable, decent housing ranging from group homes and transitional housing to independent apartments.
