At Grace OB/GYN we treat our patients with understanding and compassion, while offering them highly-developed professional skills and knowledge. We listen to every woman, provide her with the information and services she needs in order to make the best medical choices, and we walk with her through those decisions.
Services
Grace OB/GYN offers a complete range of obstetric care, including care for high-risk pregnancies. The goal of our prenatal care program is to strengthen health and well-being for both mother and child, in addition to assisting with the transition of siblings and husbands. Education is an important element of obstetrical care.
The physicians in our practice have dedicated our medical careers specifically to caring for women. One out of every eight women will be diagnosed with an actual breast cancer during her lifetime. Since our mission is to provide comprehensive healthcare for the female patient, we have a strong interest in the management of breast disease - from care of benign conditions like "fibrocystic" disease, to actual malignancies of the breast. We are committed to addressing breast-related concerns in a systematic and preemptive manner.
The journey to motherhood sometimes brings unexpected challenges. One in seven couples struggle to either attain or maintain a pregnancy. At Grace OB/GYN we offer comprehensive evaluation to identify your fertility barriers. We tailor treatment to your specific fertility needs, and our doctors continue to care for you through your pregnancy. If you struggle with infertility, our doctors would love to help you determine the cause and develop an effective treatment plan.

First off, I'd like to say that most the staff seemed wonderful and helpful. My first two visits with Grace were with Dr. Shakar and he was absolutely wonderful to work with. My husband and I loved how excited her got about our baby with us and made the visit a good experience. At our third visit we were with Dr. Pestoff and I came with questions and comments about what I wanted my birth to be like.
She shot down everything I said I wanted and kept saying "it's your first baby you'll change your mind" she acted like just because it's my first baby that I had no idea what I wanted and when I stated I did not want to birth on my back but squatting (since they won't do water births) she told me that birthing on your back is the same as squatting, which is definitely not correct.
I immediately changed my OBGYN office and I could not be happier with my new doctors who actually listen and want to make my birth not as stressful. I was also informed that you don't get to choose which doctor births your baby, is a gamble of who will be on call, and that was a deal breaker for us because I did not feel confident I would be listened to in labor especially by Dr. Pestoff.

So, no one likes to go to the OBGYN and I mean no one. Especially if you have an issue and dread results. Today was my first time going and I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed by the staff and in particular, Dr. Shaker. He ACTUALLY listened. He didn't dismiss my fears and took an ample amount of time answering any questions that I had and went above and beyond to make me feel safe, heard and all of my concerns put to rest. Before leaving, we had a game plan set in stone. That way, I know exactly what to expect should it come to that. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone.

My wife and I had great news that we were going to have a baby. We heard amazing things about Grace. So we decided to give it a go. Man did we fall in love. All the staff is phenomenal, the Doctors are amazing and treat my wife and I both with amazing respect. I highly recommend this place to everyone!

I have been a patient at Grace for over two years and can not say enough good things about them. They have taken very good care of me as I was preparing to become a first time mom. They answered all my questions/concerns and never pushed anything on me that I wasn't comfortable with. I felt like I was heard and it gave me trust/confidence in them delivering my baby. Dr. Shaker in particular was very easy going during my delivery and had good jokes to keep my husband company. Very grateful to have found such a wonderful office and will continue to use them in the future.

We couldn't be happier with the care at Grace! I truly feel like it is some of the best health care I have received. I transferred from a different practice at 10 weeks pregnant and they have been incredibly kind and informative from day 1. Everyone on staff is very respectful of one another and I have never felt like an inconvenience. They consistently ask what they can do to better our experience which means so much to me.
The doctors have gone above and beyond in their care for me and baby. I have never felt judged or coerced in my decision making, rather they inform me of my options and expand my knowledge so that I can make the best decision for our family. I couldn't recommend them enough!

I cannot say enough amazing things about this practice. Dr. Cobb is my primary OBGYN. He is caring, charismatic, funny, and patient. He is never in a rush and I always look forward to seeing him. I was a nurse at Mission Hospital and he has an amazing reputation among the nursing staff across multiple specialties from L&D to NICU and pediatrics. Their newest MD, Dr. Shakar, cared for me and got me and my baby timely care when I needed a growth ultrasound for a fundal height that wasn't increasing.
He even did an ultrasound for me himself to provide reassurance that I shouldn't worry. Dr. Pestoff was there for me during some of the most nerve-wracking moments of my pregnancy - from my first ultrasound at 8 weeks, to experiencing contractions at 22 weeks, to my growth ultrasound. She is patient, nonjudgmental, and gives the right amount of humor to any situation.
And finally, Dr. Lechner. I didn't see him much during my pregnancy but he was on call on delivery day. My husband and I cannot say enough good things about him. He was so compassionate and professional. I could tell he genuinely wanted me to be informed, involved, and comfortable. I'm so glad we shared that special day with him. My husband calls him, "a true professional." When I was struggling emotionally postpartum, he saw me right away and thanked me for coming in to be seen when I did.
I say all this to say, if you want the absolute best care in the area, go to Grace. They made my pregnancy a dream and I always look forward to seeing them! I would recommend them to anyone!

One cannot ask for better Drs. This group is amazing and truly care. I have never felt like I was just a patient. From the front end staff to the Drs and all in between, they genuinely care. I am so thankful that with the care of this group, we found out why my husband & I had multiple miscarriages and there was hope. There are not enough words to describe how it's just not a dr office; but Grace OB is work family who, over the years, have always provided the best to me!

I just love everyone here. The staff is exceptionally nice and friendly. I just love Missy and when I have questions, she is there for me to ask and help me out. Dr. Shakar is awesome as well. I had my first appointment with him today, he is so nice and was generally concerned about my health. Top notch care!

Grace OBGYN delivered both of my precious babies. I have always felt that my family was receiving the best care. Dr. Lechner truly cares about his patients and will be there with you every step of the way on your medical journey. I couldn't recommend this practice enough. I felt heard and valued at every appointment.

I've been a patient at Grace since 2014. Dr. Cobb and Dr. Councell have been wonderful in the office and delivery room. They also helped me feel great compassion and dignity as I had two miscarriages in 2016. From receptionist, billing, nurses, and check out, this office is amazing. I have experienced two other practices and realize Grace is a unique place! I recommend them to family and friends.

I have seen Dr. Cobb once and he was amazing. Such a nice man and I did not feel judged in the slightest, and although I don't feel that my personal beliefs are ones that align with their practice as a whole, I would still recommend Dr. Cobb. On the other hand, I've seen Dr. Pestoff multiple times and have left almost every time feeling so discouraged.
I have never felt that she was truly listening to me, and even after expressing my concerns, she was dismissive and short - it was like she couldn't wait for me to leave so she could move to the next patient. If you're looking for prenatal care, Dr. Pestoff is probably great, but if you're just looking for general gynecology, I wouldn't recommend her.
Shortly after finding a new OBGYN, I was diagnosed with a condition that I had expressed concern about potentially having to Dr. Pestoff (who dismisses my concerns), and I can only imagine how much better I would've felt if she'd listened to my worries and I had had my symptoms managed sooner.

Wonderful prenatal care by the doctors and nurses at Grace. I felt confident that I was in good hands for my entire pregnancy. One of the things that surprised me was the trauma sensitive care they provided- I've never experienced a practice that takes trauma into account while providing OB/GYN services and it made all the difference.

I'm a patient of Dr. Cobb, and I've also seen Dr. Councell. Both doctors are highly knowledgable and experienced- but the best part about them is that they actually really care about their patients. They were both totally non-judgmental and kind- which is what you want in an ob/gyn, or any doctor, really. I'm sure that they treat each of their patients with compassion and respect- that's how they treated me, and I'm not a Southerner or born-again or anything.
I would recommend this practice to non-Christian friends in a heartbeat, because I would be confident they would be treated very well and receive excellent medical care. Additionally, unlike other practices, it is fairly easy to get an appointment with a doctor. Nurse practitioners are truly great, but sometimes you really want the opinion of a doctor.
And I have both used insurance and paid out of pocket, and the billing office has been easy to deal with. They also have an in-house lab that will give 50% discount for self-pay if you pay up front. This is a great practice. I hope these doctors never retire!

I was so unhappy with Doctor Pestoff at this facility. I went twice and each time her "manner" was dismissive and cold. I had surgery in her office and it went well but they "demanded" I have someone sit there the whole time I was in surgery and since I just moved here I lack the friend factor to comply. The Doctor at first understood and then, as I said, demanded I have someone stay.
I was upset after hunting down a driver to drive and pick me up. I was very upset at their nearly cancelling the surgery over this. I landed up having a friend who was recently injured and on pain meds stay the course. She fell asleep in the office on pain killers. They could care less about my safe ride home. Only the legal aspect of their rules.
I had had a colonoscopy at another Asheville facility and they were completely understanding. Allowing the people to drop me off and pick me up after the procedure. It is difficult for disabled people who are alone to survive in this world. I felt both set against for my status and my lonely situation. After the surgery Doctor Pestoff send a registered letter telling me I will no longer be serviced at their facility.
My suggestion to anyone facing life alone, being old or/and poor. Do NOT have Doctor Pestoff as a physician. The facility itself is fine. I do not recommend her if your in need if a little understanding.

We called the office to make sure that they were LGBT friendly and were assured that they were. When we met with the doctor he basically told us that he didn't help "our kind" of situation and told us to go elsewhere. He did do a physical exam but said he didn't know what else to do to help us because he didn't deal with our kind of issue. Look, I've been a nurse for 16 years and almost finished with FNP school. I'm not stupid and I think he didn't realize I knew that "our situation" is very similar to to any other heterosexual relationship. He just didn't WANT to help us. And that's fine but be honest, especially if you're a Christian man.

I've been going to Grace for 18 years- first seeing Dr. Nickish (sp) who has moved and now seeing Dr. Cobb. So happy with the level of care and personal interaction. He's up on a few things in my life and asks me about them- he's busy, but not too busy to ask how things are at home and with work. He's thorough and makes a plan that's best for you and your particular needs. It can be difficult to get an appointment, so book in advance.

This office is not LGBT friendly. I was referred here by my LGBT friendly primary care doctor. I expect to be treated the same as anyone else at ANY medical facility however I can assure you my partner and I were both treated quite poorly. Unless this is how they treat all their patients. We will go elsewhere.
