Joseph C. Flynn, M.D. received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia in 1951. He interned at Orange Memorial Hospital, Orlando, Florida. He completed his orthopedic residency at Jefferson Medical College Hospital. Dr. Flynn trained at the Pennsylvania State Hospital for Crippled Children where he developed a lifelong love for children's orthopedics and scoliosis.

He had been in practice in Orlando since 1958. Dr. Flynn's interest in scoliosis and spinal deformities led him to spearhead the successful campaign for the establishment of a statewide scoliosis screening program in Florida schools.
