My son is a 10 month old infant that's been to the ER twice since 1/11/2018 for anaphylaxis and he really needs to be seen by an allergist so I was referred to this practice by my son's primany care physician. They refused to see him because they claimed that his deductible hasn't been met (even though it's been met through two ER visits). I set the appointment three days before we went to the South Tampa office and no one could tell me what the visit was going to cost and they said they would call be back.
Of course, they never did. I called them the day of the appointment while waiting for our first bus out to their location and was told it'd be a ballpark of $150 but they weren't sure and that they would tell me the cost of the visit when I got there. I took 3 buses with my 10 month old to get to the office and and was told it would be $153.05 for the visit because (according to them) the deductible hadn't been met.
I asked to speak to the manager and course I was told that she was "off for the day". I refuse to believe that an office full of people has no manager on the premises to supervise their employees, although no manager present would explain a whole lot about why the office staff refused to do their jobs and follow up with me in a timely manner BEFORE the day of my son's appointment.
First I was told I could speak to the doctor to resolve this issue and I was subsequently told after waiting and leaving a voicemail with Tina Dominguez (an administration manager at the Madaca office, wife of Dr. Jose C. Dominguez from the Madaca office) that the doctor would not be speaking to me. When Tina Dominguez called me back I explained that what happened and told her how I am terrified of setting off another incident of analphlaxis in my son by unknowingly exposing him to potentials allergens because we have no EpiPens and aren't under a doctor's care and she kept referring to the "business" of running a doctor's business and that she couldn't help us.
I told her I will finding another doctor's office for my son; the attitude of the office staff is unacceptable. I also told her that I'm glad her "business" is more important to her than the patient health and hung up on her because I was so disgusted by her attitude. I should have known better than to expect compassion from a rich doctor's wife who has no idea what it's like to be a mom in the middle of healthcare crisis for her child.

She wasn't very pleasant and didn't care to be there. She took a bunch of tests, yet she downplayed the symptoms and the test results. Didn't treat any of my symptoms, but was sure ready to set up marathon of follow up visits. When I questioned what progress we were checking when there was no course of "treatment, " I was told it was to check if I was improving. I found this odd since if i was to improve, I would have an actual diagnosis from treatment. Needless to say I haven't returned and poor Dr. Downes missed all my money.
