I was diagnosed with SVT and Arrhythmias. After doing considerable research & speaking with my colleagues regarding the best EP physician, I selected Dr. Herweg to perform my cardiac ablation. I selected Tampa General despite living in Orlando. I am in the medical field and work in the operating room. Tampa General operated like a well oiled machine from the time I checked in at 0600, had surgery and was discharged at 4:00 PM the same day.
The surgeon was extremely skilled and fixed the issue. Everyone was empathetic, kind, caring and helpful. However, the finance/billing dept. was a completely different animal. They called me every day 1 week before surgery and wanted me to pay my 5K deductible and used Intimidation tactics to get their money. They should be ashamed.

The TGH office staff are the worst as far as customer service. They are so big now, that one arm does not know and does not care what the other is doing. My annual physical appointment that was scheduled a year ago was randomly cancelled witout an explanation. When I tried to reschedule it, I was put on hold for over an hour with a recording that kept promoting TGH as the best hospital in the world and what best customer service they have!
Wonder who they paid to say that? Finally whne I spoke to someone to re-schedule, she was absolutely rude with no explanation for the cancellation and gave me an appointment ten months out in April 2023! Way to go TGH, wonder what bad service is like these days if this is the 'best' you can offer.

I had the worst birth experience at this hospital. Even the patient reps do not care about patient mistreatment. The staff does not think you know what's going on with your own body and doesn't listen to you. Completely rude. We had one good nurse while I was in labor, dani. she was amazing but other than that everyone was completely rude and would not listen to me.
This was 8 months ago and I have finally given up on anything good coming from the patient reps. I was completely ignored. I would consider any other hospital to have your baby at.

Inpatient care is great! Every time I'm admitted for surgery I'm treated great! My stays in the hospital have been enjoyable. They really go out of their way to make you comfortable. However, their ER is horrible! The wait time is insane! Last time I went to the ER here they put me on a stretcher in the hallway for (12) hours before I got a bed in one of the rooms and I found out once I got in my room that their were plenty of available beds!
It's just their process to get a bed is completely incompetent! I also had to beg to get my medication because once I'm in the ER I'm not allowed to take my own meds. I also had to beg for food! Was there for (12) hours and they never offered me anything to eat or drink!

Went to the ER for my wife. She arrived at 1335. I arrived at 1440. It is now 2140 and still waiting on test results the monitor she should be on is just dinging away for the 4th time today. I will not ask again to reconnect her like I did before. I had to chase down a nurse to get a bed pan because she can't stand. Yes I took care of that myself.
She has been visited by a doctor 2 times since I've been here for a total of 5 minutes and the nurses are just as bad. We live in Orlando but she works in Tampa so that is why we are here she went down at work and was transported here by Hillsboro fire. I would not recommend this hospital at all. Worst I have ever been to. Oh, by the way we're sitting in a hallway! Still.

Tampa General Hospital saved my life! I was hospitalized over a month and everyone I met from doctors, nurses, patient care techs, environmental to dietary were more than professional, courteous and outstandingly caring! I can't express my gratitude and immense satisfaction with the care I received and continue to receive here. There is no hospital better if you have a serious problem! Thank you TGH for my second chance at life!

I had an External Cephalic Version scheduled in the labor and delivery unit yesterday. Every L&D doctor and nurse we came into contact with on 4/18/22, as well as security guards and intake personnel, were outstanding and provided us great service. Very pleased with this hospital. I am planning on having a birth center birth but the care we received for this procedure was still outstanding and the doctors were very respectful and helpful when we had to make some last minute decisions.

Their ER team saved my life. Dr. Herron was the best doctor I've ever met in my life and he was so kind and compassionate when I needed trauma surgery. The coordination of care was outstanding. The only reason they lost a star is my overnight stay was awful. They don't let you sleep, come in every 10-15 mins with broken machines beeping it is not restful/healing sleep but hey were are supposed to get going home anyway so I'll take lifesaving over comfort for a hospital.

I'd give ZERO if I could and hire a lawyer! Stay away! I went to ER with Post Covid abdominal pain, trouble eating, swallowing, neck pain and feeling really sick. The ER experience was horrific going from one waiting area to another sick people everywhere! No monitoring! For hours! After hours in ER I was supposedly admitted and put on bed in hallway for some time I was then moved to ER holding unit waiting a room.
I never got a room but stayed in holding unit for 4 days (see pix)! I had a cubicle and nothing more but a bed and a curtain to stare at! Floor covered in debris. It was a living hell on earth! The only 2 bathroom were despicable! Filthiest bathrooms I've ever been in! Sink drain clogged. Filthy toilets, floor etc. Here I was to wash, brush teeth etc! ( see pix). Told nurses to no avail!. Housekeeping never came to clear whole area unit! Partially 4th day!
God only knows what bacteria and germs I got from 2 bathrooms. They had several giant air clearing machines attached to duct work blowing smelly musty air to breath! Supposedly to filter Covid germs per nurse! I'd cover my head with blanket so I didn't breath it! ( so nasty)! Florescent lights over whole area not by cubical which would get turned on and off through night! Asked nurse for a Case Manager.
No one came! OH! And I was in my street clothes for 4 days! NO hospital gown etc! The nurses were offsite staffing very rude often talking and laughing amongst them selves vs pt care. Many were rude and disrespectful! In four days I never saw the same nurse therefore they not knowing my care! Food was horrible delayed for hours! Nurses told me this was a temporary Covid unit used for other patient waiting rooms!
I was the only one there 4 days that I know of! I left in worse shape then when I came! Same symptoms only worse! The meds they gave me made me very sick and dizzy! I was released to drive home alone! This is a top rated hospital By God this experience was horrific! Never will I return for anything! Again STAY AWAY! If you value your life! (Week of 9/13/21)

My son was taken there via ambulance for a fractured tibia and fibula from a scooter accident. I flew in from Michigan a few hours after his surgery. I witnessed first class nursing staff on the 8th floor. Every department (PT, dietary, etc) that came into his room was top notch. Very friendly and helpful. My son especially loved his day nurse Suzanne. All the staff was great!

I was involved in a motorcycle accident on Monday night. The doctors took me in and said I needed stitches. I had open wounds that were left untreated. Also they did not give me my stitches that THE DOCTORS SAID THEY WERE GOING TO DO. The Communication on all of the doctors parts were terrible they didn't take any notes didn't take the time to ask patients anything just rushing to get the job done if you ask me go somewhere else other than Tampa General

I went to the emergency department in the morning with progressive weakness in both legs that was spreading into both my arms. The second I was in the ED I was immediately checked in and saw by the PA-C within 15 minutes. After being seen by the PA-C there was a long wait of 3-4 hours to see the neurologist who would be able to better assess my condition, which is understandable with an influx of patients in the afternoon to the ED and needing to see them as they came in.
I ended spending 4 days and 3 nights in the observation unit. Each day the attending physician, neurologist, and medical student paid me a visit to discuss their findings, plan of care, and answer any questions I had. Performing a thorough examination and assessment to get my baseline data and track my progress during my stay. The team of doctors showed regular communication, care, and empathy during my entire stay.
The nurses were extremely caring and accommodating for any and every need I had. The nurse techs performed regular vitals and blood glucose checks to make sure I was medical stable. Even though the doctors didn't find a diagnosis for my presentation of symptoms they were transparent, honest, and kept an open mind. They did provide me treatment that was effective and provided me with an extensive and detailed discharge and follow up plan to ensure I received the proper care.
I was previously admitted to another hospital prior to Tampa general hospital. The prior hospital diagnosed me with an exacerbation of my auto immune condition without any kind of objective proof and provided me treatment that was ineffective due to their diagnosis. Tampa general hospital is one the best hospital I've been too, I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

The ER was disgusting a. Super slow and some workers were rude as all get up! I went to go valet park the little rude girl told me I couldn't but couldn't tell me why. My husband an I showed up at 11- an didn't leave until 5:30 that was after three different departments sent us in the wrong place. The ER was filled with junkies and never in my life have I seen a hospital where your brought in by ambulance adown they bring you into the ER waiting room N drop you there! so so very unorganized an needs a good cleaning for sure. I'd rather die in my bed then ever go there again!

I've been dealing with this hospital for 32 years. Never has the service to patients been worse. Not the nursing staff but the uncaring doctors. They make you wait to be seen. Come to your room to see you when you're not there but still bill you. Very unprofessional. And don't expect an easy exit from this prison. Never seen an institution that claims to be overrun with patients but will not got you processed to leave before 5 pm. I'm sure it's to bill for the extra day. Imagine getting billed for the day you leave your hotel. How do they expect to rotate rooms? Absolute crap but only game in town for specialties.

I've been here quite a few times since 2018. The doctors here are great. The nurses have been short staffed since Covid showed up but are always superb in taking care of you. I came in this last time via the ER. My husband dropped me off at the ER and drove back to park. Went to main entrance to check in, the line was out the door. Once He got to the window he was told no one but patients in ER.
He had to walk back to leave. I was in ER area for two days. Not given any of my meds till next am. Nothing to eat from noon when I arrived until the next day. My clothes vanished while moving from ER to another room, to 6th floor room, then to ICU. Never did get them back and their was really no concern to security. I understand staff shortages but patient care and service still needs to improve.

Let's build a hospital in the middle of downtown Tampa. Oh and wait let's build on Davis island as well so we have no way to expand the hospital as the Tampa population grows. Was this the thoughts running thru the building engineers mind during initial planning? Had our 2nd child here at Tampa general and our 1st child. ST.Joseph's south down in Riverview.
The experience between both hospital are worlds different. SIMPLY PUT PROS:The triage staff was amazing one young lady stood out unfortunately I cannot remember her name but she really was there every step of the way. (This is why I gave two stars instead of one) Starbucks and McDonald's are on the 1st floor. This is a plus And that's about it for the pros.
Now the cons. CONS: There are so many police officers and security in this hospital that it feels like there is an active shooting situation going on. If you leave even to get fresh air plan to talk to at least 6 security personnel to get back in. Wife missed meals because I guess her transition period into the postpartum was at 4 am and I guess she was not counted. Grapes and cheese cubes was her meal after not eating for 14 hours.
Parking is difficult and overall layout of the hospital is horrible my wife and I parked in the visitor parking garage on the 1st floor and still has to walk about 15 mins to find the main entry while having contractions. You have the cancer entrance then you have the pharmacy entrance etc etc. super confusing. Sharing rooms during postpartum (after delivery) this was my biggest con.
I mean what's going on. You cannot even enjoy the time with your newborn without another family that is 5 ft from you behind a curtain. They have a newborn as well they maybe crying while your newborn is sleeping and vice versa. This is super uncomfortable. Also see the photo of the bloody toilet seat from another patient in the room. I had to clean it every time I used the restroom.
They are claiming covid sage but here we are sharing a bathroom and a small postpartum room. I realize building a hospital in the middle of downtown Tampa on Davis island surrounded by water doesn't give much room to expand the hospital. In my honest opinion AVOID TAMPA GENERAL IF YOU ARE GOING INTO LABOR!

What I experienced in TGH over the weekend was so traumatizing, I'm not sure anyone would believe it. I was there with extreme heart problems, chest pain, life-threatening vitals. (I'll come back and revisit this review with even more specific details, I am still in shock.) My life was put in danger in that hospital, more than one time. They put heart patients in a cubicle that can only hold a bed with a curtain.
The unit was in windowless dingy hallway, that was barely held up by particleboard and curtains. It was filthy, there was bloody bandages and urine on the floor. The cubicle was not cleaned once the 4 days I was there. The nurses were playing music all night, laughing, making fun of the patients, and violating HIPAA laws all over the place. My nurse was downright verbally abusive, The next morning I politely asked if I could switch nurses, but she still came into my room.
At that point she became dangerously angry because I requested a different nurse and even more aggressive with me. They were out of almost every basic medical supply, it took six tries to run an IV on me, which eventually the nurse "accidentally" ripped out of my arm! The incompetence was staggering, even down to discharge. At discharge they could not figure out how to print my paperwork, mixed up my medication twice.
They even sent my pharmacy the wrong directions. (And I had no discharge paperwork to even double check) Because of that, I've been in and out of consciousness since release. What I'm describing is just the tip of the iceberg. I've heard that this was supposed to be a good hospital, but if you have a heart problem please go anywhere else. Anywhere. That place is the twilight zone.

I was brought in by ambulance the beginning of August with Covid, difficulty breathing, the ED staff are asking questions and I can't answer because I couldn't breath, spent almost 24 hours in the ED but they did their best to make me comfortable with the high o2 flow, wish I knew their names so I can say thank you, I got a room, A623 I think was my room number, for the next three weeks the floor nurses did their best to make me comfortable, everyone I came into contact with were all dressed up in extra ppe and I wouldn't even recognize them to say thank you for saving my life.
Here are some photos because I was bored and wanted to go home knowing at the time I couldn't. Thank you TGH nurses and doctors. P.S. when your gasping for air, you don't care about the cleanliness of the rooms, how many times they stick you with needles or who is taking care of you because they were too busy trying to save my life.

My husband is hospitalized for 6 weeks now.suffering from advanced copd, bacterial infection and pneumonia.unfortunately while in hospital care he contracted covid as well! He was in ICU for first two weeks and had best care ever at Bayshore building! Afterwards they transferred him in west building which is "third world ghetto" in every meaning! They constantly changed his room.never follow up with meds.he has to fight to get necessary treatments! Dr Patel marked him as ALCOHOLIC with withdrawals and they didn't want to give him his regular medicine for anxiety!
I spoke with management and insisted to remove a such nonsense because my husband can barely swallow the water! Than they said he is still covid positive which WASN'T TRUE. otherwise he won't be able to have visitors! I went to see him today and noticed that new room is filthy, there was vomit in the corner from previous patient.bathroom was absolutely disgusting.
My husband is attached to oxygen and cannot use facility.so couldn't blame on him. When I called nurse and politely ask for some help with cleaning.nurse showed up with Kevin Castle who is clinical administrator. He came angry and literally told me to leave or he will put trespassing order on me for causing the problems! I'm beyond shocked! Nobody taking care of my husband. I'm the one helping him with taking bath, changing clothes.using commode and cleaning up. It's embarrassing.

I have been in this hospital for four days and I have never seen such low integrity where you have to fight for your own medicines because some staff makes personal decisions instead of medical decisions. and you have doctors that have been treating you for years and then you come into this hospital and without checking any history of your health or your condition they overrule your doctors decisions and cancel out whatever medicines that whatever person is taking care of your time at the time feels in their own morals. and if you upset them they will come after you with resentment and you will get the worst treatment ever in this hospital that you have ever seen.you will get looks from nurses and assistance and you will get administrators that will come and visit you and give you mouth service and hope that you go away and they will blame it on the pandemic if you're a smart person and don't want to sit in the hallways and sacrifice treatment go to Bayside. or any hospital besides this one for that matter. i've had 13 surgeries and a half a dozen different hospitals. and I don't care how good this hospital claims to be. lotta very professional people here.
But I can tell you there is a lot with no integrity also so it's very counterproductive as it has become obvious to me that they don't even concern themselves with any repercussions as low integrity is very acceptable here. This place will put you under so much stress that it will damage your health I came in here and my blood pressure was fine and it has been fine for a long long time and after they started doing nerd things just look at that picture and if you think 150/100 is OK I don't know what to tell you but I will be lucky to get out of here without having a stroke.
Here they don't even bat an eye at it and they know that they are the ones that caused it with the stress that they put you under and calling your house and having security call your children that live in Arizona and have nothing to do with here and without my permission and whatever they did they start a war in my family. just had a resident doctor wrap in my open wound and lay the gods pad on a very and sterile sheet.
So I was a patient and watching her get ready to put this on my open wound I stopped her and questioned it and asked her if it was sterile. her response was while it is clean. And then when she seen me take a picture of it gets upset at me and throws it in the garbage and gets the sterile pad so you basically get on top of your own treatment in this place will rip you apart and treat you differently and will never ever follow up and complains.
Last pic is result of being stressed over treatment. Welcome to the new normal of the church blood pressure. If I don't get a stroke while in here. I'm sure I'll have to take a couple of medication for the rest of my life for after this visit

They tried to fleece my mom. She is a 76 year old who quit smoking ten years ago. She has not had any respiratory problems lately. Here is her story: On Saturday July 17th while attempting to enter the back seat of a car I fell straight backward to the driveway and then was transported to Tampa General Hospital. I arrived at the hospital around 10PM and put into a room where I was checked by the nurses and sent to x-ray for testing. Sometime between 5 and 6AM I was transported to a room on the 7th floor.
I was given pain medicine and put on oxygen. I was told that my oxygen level was low and would be on oxygen while in the hospital. My head and butt was only looked at after I told the nurses that I was in great pain and they only checked me then and one other time. They were only concerned about the low oxygen, but I was given pain medicine every few hours.
I saw Dr. Patel after testing and was informed that I would be put on oxygen and pain medicine. I was released July 19th around 1PM. I was sent home with medicine and and an oxygen tank, but not hooked up to it. After being home for a couple of hours I got a delivery from Rotech with an oxygen machine and 4 tanks [wit a price tag of about $3000]. I did not know that it was coming, not told of it and that I was to be on oxygen 24x7 - the delivery guy told me that. I immediately called my primary care physician and went to see him. I was told by my PCP that I did not need the oxygen equipment.

I couldn't and I wouldn't ever recommend TGH. We went there to have our baby delivered and it turned out to be a nightmare. Our baby was full term, almost 41 weeks, yet they forced our baby into the NICU for 2 extra days because his body temperature was 97.0 instead of 97.5. They couldn't just put him under the heater to bring his body temperature back up.
They had to prick his feet until they turned purple those 2 full days and wired him up with an IV in his hand. He was barely 2 hours old, it was horrendous. On top of that traumatic experience, they charged us over $10,000 AFTER insurance so now we know why they kept pushing our baby to the NICU. Never again. Please do not have your baby here!

I used Tampa General for the delivery of my child as I see USF Health OBGYNs. Previously I had only been to the hospital for a visit or to accompany someone to the ER. The parking situation is what it is: garage parking. The garage is actually owned by the City of Tampa. This hospital is very reputable and highly touted in the medical field. The hospital is bright, expansive, and utilizes the latest equipment.
It is a teaching hospital and as such they adhere to cutting edge and the latest schools of thought, use results of the most recent studies as guidelines, and implement best practices. While the birth of my daughter did not happen as I had imagined I did receive very excellent care from the nurses and staff employed by the hospital. I did have some different perspectives on what my birth plan should entail but in the end I received a healthy baby while maintaining my healthy and that is all I can ask for.
I am grateful and indebted to the staff there for delivering my little love. Please see my other review on the other "Tampa General Hospital". I could not duplicate it here. I had a beautiful hotel room and successful medical care.
