A cyst is a harmless, sac-like growth in the deeper layers of the skin while lipomas are a benign growth of adipose tissue, fat cells. Cyst sacs are filled with a soft, whitish material that sometimes escapes onto the skin's surface. We do not know why cysts or lipomas appear, nor do we know why some persons get many of them.
GOOD DAILY SKIN CARE IS A MUST! Skin is dry because it lacks water. It is important to practice the basic principles of good skin care daily, because dermatitis is a chronic problem. Sun, wind, low humidity, cold temperature, age, excessive washing without use of moisturizers, and use of harsh, drying soaps can cause dry skin conditions.

I had a scheduled appointment this morning at 7:30 for a minor procedure. (This appointment has been scheduled for over a month.) I showed up at 7:15, as instructed in their confirmation email sent to me to remind me of my appointment. I was told my appointment had been cancelled because the machine for my procedure had been down for days. I was told that someone had called me to cancel, when in fact I did not receive any call or notification whatsoever that my appointment had been cancelled. I didn't even receive an apology. They've lost my business for sure.

Gem State Dermatology has always had very helpful, friendly and understanding staff. They listen to my concerns and explain the different courses of action that can be taken. PA Michael Lane is personable and prompt. It is rare that I have had to wait long to see him at my appointments. Paul, who helps, is great too.

I got service from this clinic on 4/4/2022. The medical service was good, and the PAs I worked with were competent and friendly. I am satisfied with the care I received. (4/11/2022 Update: The issue mentioned below has been resolved. The clinic has reached out and we have agreed to keep the overcharged amount on my account to cover future copays as I need to do monthly checkups for the following 5 months. Overall, I am satisfied with the way the clinic handled the overcharging issue and I revised my review rating from the initial 2-star to a 5-star.).However, they messed up the billing in a big way and charged me almost 3X of the supposed amount at the time of service.
I am on a very high-tier medical insurance, and I know this clinic is in-network. So my entire visit should only cost a $30 copay out-of-pocket. However, the check-out staff charged me $89 ($40 copay for the visit and $49 for some blood work), which I paid in full. I thought it was strange, but I did not think too far into it. Then I received my updated insurance record today, which indicates the $30 copay should be all I am responsible for; everything else was covered and paid by insurance.
So what happened was the clinic overcharged me $10 on the copay and collected $49 for the same set of blood work from both me and my insurance, which is technically "medical double charging, " which is illegal and can get this clinic into a lot of trouble. Although the dollar amount involved in this incident is not large, this is still not something that should have happened as the billing staff is being paid regular paychecks to not mess this type of thing up.
I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt and work with the clinic on this error. I have called the clinic today but couldn't talk to someone in charge of billing (I was told the person is "out of office"). I am willing to amend my review and give a more favorable rating if the clinic resolves the error quickly and fully refunds the overcharged amount. Otherwise, I will file disputes with both the insurance company and my credit card company, and I will also file a complaint with the State of Idaho. --Andong Yue, Ph. D.

I came to Gem State after having a poor experience at different office in Boise and I cannot be happier with my results/how I've been treated. At my first appointment, we discussed my concerns and all my different treatment options and then got setup with a plan. I had terrible acne and after seeing Dr. Lane, it has made a complete 180 in 3 months. Still working on it, but I am so much happier.
