The Johnson City Eye Clinic was established in 1942, evolving into what was to become the renowned Johnson City Eye Hospital. From this foundation, the Johnson City Eye Clinic has grown to provide a complete spectrum of eye care and surgical services in one facility for adult and pediatric patients.
Dr. Oakley is from Bristol, TN and attended Tennessee High School. She holds a BA from the University of TN and attended ETSU's College of Medicine where she was honored as a Quillen Scholar. Following a residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center serving as Chief Ophthalmology Resident, Dr. Oakley completed a glaucoma fellowship at the University of South Florida.
A Fellowship-trained cornea specialist, Dr. Busscher recently joined the prestigious group of surgeons at Johnson City Eye Clinic to bring an array of cornea treatment and surgery options surpassing all that has been previously available in our region. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Busscher is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Rushing, who grew up in Tomball, Texas, a suburb of Houston, joined Johnson City Eye Clinic after serving as Chief Resident at University of North Carolina Ophthalmology. She received her MD from the University of Texas Medical School where she also completed her internship. Dr. Rushing completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina, followed by a retina fellowship at the University of Michigan.

I always feel that I am getting quality eye care and not just another number going through the process. Dr. Rushing is the best! I have a high degree of confidence in her abilities and I believe it's her hearts desire to give each patient the very best care and consideration. All the staff has consistently been friendly, courteous and professional. Again, I have a high degree of confidence in each of them.

Overall, my experience at Johnson City Eye was excellent. Nurses and doctors are outstanding. The one difficult issue is that every time I have come for an appointment- diagnostic, surgery or follow up- it has always been over an hour past my scheduled time before my appointment began. They are very busy. I was never offered any status reports or updates or apology about the delays. It would be a good hospitality measure to be sensitive to patients time and schedules and communicate about timing as it transpires each day.

Check in was a lot better. You didn't have to stand in line. Eye exam went really well. She was very thorough and proficient. Dr Young was wonderful as always. She answered all my questions and explained everything in detail. She also took the time to answer some questions my daughter was experiencing. I didn't feel rushed as everyone took the time to make my visit to my satisfaction. Thank you!

I called the eye clinic hoping they would be able to get me in as soon as possible because I was having a great deal of eye pain behind my left eye. They were so considerate and sweet. They got me in the next day just as I had wished for. I have seen several of the doctors there throughout the years. All I can ever say is they are wonderful there! This last visit, the doctor took her time and explained everything in great detail. I was really satisfied with my visit. I am so glad I am a patient there.

I have gone to the Johnson City Eye Clinic for several years. Recently I was diagnosed with needing cataract surgery on both of my eyes. Dr. Johnson has removed one of the cataracts, and I have scheduled the surgery for my other eye. I am very happy with all of the care I have received for my eyes. Dr. Johnson has done a tremendous job with the treatment and surgery I have needed.
The nurses, and all of the staff have all been wonderful with everything I have needed. My operative eye is seeing 20/20 and I am anxiously awaiting my second surgery. It's amazing to be regaining my vision! I would highly recommend this center for your needs with your eye care!

Extremely prompt and courteous attention by All nurses, attendants and especially Dr. Battle. Would have mentioned the staff by name if possible. Effective laser treatment/surgery. From the time we entered, checked in, prepped, treatment/surgery and checked out, was just over an hour. Very pleased and grateful to the entire staff at the Johnson City Eye Clinic and Surgery Center. God bless you all.

The check in was easy and completed in a few minutes, the receptionist was knowledgeable and friendly. The nurse who took me to the exam room was polite and handled my exam in a few minutes. Dr Young is s great doctor she's so friendly and explains all aspects of her exam. I would highly recommend Johnson City Eye Clinic.

Thank you to Dr. Sarah Rushing and everyone I met at Johnson City Eye Clinic. My cataract surgery went well, and I am reading the newspaper and sending texts with no glasses or contacts. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. I appreciate how efficiently the facility is run. I spent very little time in the waiting room and felt comfortable before, after, and during surgery.

I had surgery which required 40 staples and stitches. Everyone at the surgery center was so nice and helpful. The best by far surgery center I have ever been to. Going to my appointment after sure the nurse was very gentle in taking the staples and stitches out. Everyone was great. Highly recommend.

Awesome group of Professionals! Would highly recommend! From the time I checked in for my surgery until I was leaving everyone was very nice and answered any and all questions I had. Marlie was great getting back to me on insurance issues several times and was always so sweet when on the phone with her. The laser surgery and cataract removal did not take very long and I didn't have any pain at all during the procedures, I just felt some pressure. Dr Battle is awesome too! He talked me through the procedures every step, telling me what he was about to do and how long it would take. I would definitely recommend them!
