Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in the United States. When skin cells suffer from unrepaired DNA damage, this triggers cell mutations, causing the cells to rapidly reproduce out of control. This rapid reproduction results in the growth of cancerous lesions and tumors. If you're interested in learning more about skin cancer, including the most common types, its warning signs and symptoms, and how we treat skin cancer in Lebanon, Hermitage, and Hendersonville, Tennessee, review our dermatologists' answers to these frequently asked questions.
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) develops in the basal cells, skin cells of the lowest layer in the epidermis. BCC is the most common cancer, affecting more than one million people every year in the U.S. Basal cell carcinoma tends to grow slowly and may take years to grow to inch in size. We encourage routine screenings, especially if you notice any strange moles or sores that don't heal.
Malignant melanoma is the rarest of all skin cancers. But while it's less common than basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), it's more dangerous, as malignant melanoma has a higher chance of spreading to other layers of the skin and parts of the body. Thus, it's important to know more about this skin cancer to lower your risk, understand the signs and symptoms of melanoma, and know what your treatment options are.
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one of the most common types of skin cancers, with over one million new cases diagnosed each year in the United States alone. With more and more cases of SCC being diagnosed each year, it's important to learn more about this skin cancer so you can identify the warning signs, know your treatment options, and understand how this skin cancer can impact your life.

I have been seeing Lauren Joines for treatment of a non-curable condition. While I have found her to be very nice, the following things have happened: 1. The first time that I called with a question, it took two days to receive a returned call. 2. My pharmacy called everyday for a week to get authorization for a refill. They were never called back. So, the pharmacy called me.
I was going for an appointment the next day and I mentioned the lack of response to the pharmacy. She said she never got the message. While this could be true, there is something wrong with the receiving and returning messages protocol. 3. I called last Friday, May 27 at 4:48 PM and left a message due to their office closing at 4:30PM. Being Memorial Day weekend, I didn't expect a call back until May 31. Today is June 2. I am still waiting. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

First time visit in December for my son, the visit itself was fine. Today, 5 months later I get a COLLECTION letter in the mail. Do what?! No statements sent before, no phone calls. nothing! How can an honest office just send someone to collections without even a phone call. this is EXTREMELY unprofessional. Obviously, this is a common complaint due to past reviews! I guess if you go to this practice, you need to call and make sure your insurance has paid in full or you will be sent to collections.

Typical doctors office just shuttling people through as quick as they can. Pushing unnecessary follow ups to get you back in the door just to rush and try to push you out so they can get to the next person. Just another place aiding the insurance racket. I ended up paying over 350 dollars all in all for a small tube of eczema cream for a very mild but persistent outbreak.
I asked multiple times at the front desk how much money would this cost me and was assured multiple times that my insurance would pay for this. Specifically they would pay for this, that this would not be a cost to me. The front desk workers were far more concerned talking and chatting with each other about non-work related issues then about the questions that I had asked.
I called their office to try to get an explanation today and I was told that is my responsibility as an individual to understand my particular insurance plan. I asked very specific questions the day of the first visit to try to avoid a situation like this. I would have never went knowing what this would actually cost me. They've said that they sent me a bill on five different occasions yet somehow I never received one. Only after six months do I get a notice from a collection agency as my first indicator that I owe them any money.

With the exception of my dealings with the young lady on the left (when facing the front desk), all my interactions were positive and professional. This young lady, while not exactly rude, commands the customers in all interactions with nary a "please" or "thank you" in sight. Perhaps one of the gaggle of other people cackling away in the adjoining room can take some time from their busy schedule to instruct her on how one acts professionally.

Yesterday after 2 years, suddenly I found a medical collection for $166 without sending any bill information or calling me in the past. even I paid the insurance Co-pay and asked them if any I need to pay, they said No we build the insurance and you fine. 2 weeks later I asked about the lab results they said you can come to pick it we can't send via email, when I went over there I asked them again if I need to pay for the results or I still have to pay money, the front office said No you are okay.

Every time I visit Cumberland Dermatology I get the same great treatment. From the office staff at the desk to the practitioner, it is always top quality, professional treatment. Barbara Wolfe is always friendly, caring, and very experienced in her job. Just what you would want/ expect from any medical professional.

I was told they were going to call or fax in a prescription for Dupexent. 4 days later and 2 messages left for them, still hasn't been called or faxed in. No call back. No response at all. I'm self pay, so no insurance coverage for going to them, but still can't get them to respond. I'm going to Hawaii on November 8th. It would be nice to wear a swimsuit comfortably.
The nurses are very nice, but I don't understand how it completely slipped their minds to call in that prescription. ESPECIALLY after I left 2 messages. It's not like I'm asking for a narcotic.

So very pleased with the surgery and the staff. Dr. Julie Countess is absolutely amazing! It was my first time dealing with skin cancer. And they made me feel very at ease. They go above and beyond to make it comfortable for you. It was very quick and Dr. Countess work is just done so well. Thank you to all the Staff at Cumberland skin! Y'all are so great!

I was very nervous to go here as I've never been to a dermatologist office ever. However, the staff was very friendly, and I was taken back right on time. I had some complex issues, and Dr. Roffwarg was so kind and understanding. I felt he really listened to me, and he truly cared and wanted to help. I ultimately had an awesome experience, and I wanted other hesitant patients to feel at ease by my review. This is a wonderful, safe place for you to go.

For this visit I saw Nurse Practitioner Joines. She was the best! I felt valued as a person, and as a senior citizen. I've seen two others medical experts at this office (Dr Price, Nurse Practitioner Barbara), and they are all caring and serious about their responsibility to their patients. They probably saved my life since I have a history of Melanoma.
Their followup process ensures I get checked when I should and I've been seen on only a few days notice when something unusual happens to my skin. I sincerely would not go anywhere else. My VA dermatologist told me that this is a good place for care outside of the VA system and he was aware of the excellence of Dr. Price and her team. I actually drive a full hour to go to this clinic because I have confidence that I'm getting the best quality of care.

August 19, 2020 | Dr. Christina Feser and her staff are top-notch! I've been in the fire & emergency medical service field for 25-years, working around many types of healthcare professionals over the years. Dr. Feser removed a moderate-risk mole off my belly and a cyst off my face. Her nurses were very nice, professional, and skillful with their jobs. Dr. Feser has a very gentle hand and conducted my procedures with surgical precision.
She is very easy to talk to, explained the procedures so that I understood them, and answered all my questions. After experiencing her and her nurse's skill, I'll never want another practitioner in this field working on me. Also, after three visits to their Lebanon Office, the wait times were right on point. Virtually no wait on my appointment.
They got me right in each time/on time and got down to business. I had to call billing once to ask a question and they were very helpful. Their online bill pay was very easy to use. 5-star service!

First let me say, I LOVE Abby James. I have been seeing her for years and am heartbroken to leave her. My 6 month appointment was supposed to be today. I cannot wear a mask because I become lightheaded very quickly (like within 5 minutes) so I called less than 2 weeks ago to make sure this was not a problem since the appointment reminder said masks were necessary.
I was told it was not a problem - I would check in and then wait in my car and when a room was available I would be called on my cell and taken straight back. I arrived for my appointment and called. After a very long hold while the Lebanon office tried to get the Hermitage office on the phone, "Jen" answered. I explained the situation and was very curtly told that whomever told me that was wrong and there were no exceptions to the policy for any reason so I would just have to reschedule.
I asked what the point was in rescheduling since we didn't know how long this was going to go on so I might as well just find a new dermatologist who could make medical accommodations for this situation. Her response floored me. "I guess you should." She did use the words "I'm sorry" at one point in the conversation but they were so spoken so sarcastically that I can only assume she really meant "I don't have time for this. Leave me alone."

Went to see these folks yesterday. The assistant and the office personnel were very nice. The nurse practitioner however came in all high and mighty telling me how we were going to handle my case. She did not listen to what I said at all. I will not have any medical person tell me a treatment plan while at the same time looking down on me like i was a dummy and not taking into account anything i said.

I go to the hermitage location! Tammy is fantastic! I had a consultation with Gina and she was very informative and put me in the hands of a lovely lady named Tammy. I first had spider vein treatment and she blew me away with the amount of area she covered. I have had 3 procedures done at another clinic and she was able to cover more then all of my other procedure combined!
I healed quickly and the results are the best I've ever had. She gave me great aftercare advise and even tips to help prevent more spider veins from developing. This is my new leg lady! I later decided to try some preventative Botox which I was nervous about but she explained everything in great detail. I have seen some bad Botox before that looked unnatural but Tammy applied the perfect amount for my forehead wrinkles to disappear. I'm glad I tried Cumberland skin care. It's helping me with the small improvements I want to give me that boost of confidence that feels fantastic.

Got recommendations for a dermatologist here on facebook in the Hip Mt. Juliet group - so thought I did my homework as it came very recommended. Not great! Saw the exact dermatologist that was recommended, she had a not great bedside manner with my 13 year old daughter who was apprehensive to begin with. Gave prescription for acne treatment - went to pick it up it was $650 had to then call the dematologist and tell them that we weren't going to pay that much for acne treatment - they said oh did you use the coupon? NO no one offered or told us about that option.
So we had to go back and get the prescription with a different "coupon". The product made my daughter's face TEN TIMES WORSE, she broke out with terrible open sores everywhere she put in on her face, they were red, painful, huge, and worse/bigger than her acne issue was to begin with. Called them and they perscribed another treatment to try instead. SAME ISSUE they said, call us back if it's NOT $25-$35.
Of course it was $100 WITH insurance so they said to call in a different product at a different pharmacy. DONE WITH THIS PLACE, too much runaround with what they prescribe, didn't think the dermatologists were thorough or very good with dealing with teenage kids as far as how they talk to them, examine them etc. Looking back we were better off before we came here, going to look elsewhere.
They have no idea or customer detail associated with what they prescribe, just give it to you and let you then deal with the overpricing, trying to ask them after the prescription is called in and too much money only THEN do they bother to try to do coupons or try to help make it somewhat reasonably priced. Just not a place that has a clue at all!

I have been one time about a year ago. I had a schedule appointment and three days before my appointment, they called to tell me they needed to reschedule. Typically that would be fine but there next available was over a month out and I desperately needed a concerning mole checked but they had no care about that. This time, the exact same thing happened.
My appointment is in two days and they just called to tell me they need to change the appointment from 2/1 out to 2/16 which is "a surprise" that even found that early of a date. How is this a way to do business?

Tammie and Dr Price at Cumberland Skin literally saved my life. I had been seeing 2 dermatologist in the downtown Nashville area for over the last 10 years, but was recommended by a friend to go to Cumberland Skin. The previous dermatologists had been treating my "age/sun spot" on my face as just that. Well, after a simple biopsy by Tammie a month ago it was discovered the spot was actually Melanoma. Dr.
Price quickly saw me and removed the melanoma, with clean margins, on her first attempt! She got me in to a plastic surgeon quickly and I'm now cancer free! I'm so thankful for everyone in both offices! They sincerely care. By the way, I have been seen on time or early for ever single appointment.

This place is the best! Lindsey and Dr Tancy took such great care of me that I wish I could visit more often to be around these kind people. I walked in really nervous because I've never had to deal with Skin issues. They made me feel safe, secure, and all around better. They where so polite and easy to talk to. I recommend choosing this practice over any other in Nashville!

I have appreciated the friendliness of staff in Lebanon. The wait has not been too long--long enough to eat a donut and have a cup of coffee. I had three treatments planned. I explained that I would be moving out of state in May right after my second appointment, but would be able to travel back for the third treatment in June to conclude business.
They assured me the timing was perfect. However they cancelled my May appointment so Barbara could go on vacation. Now I don't know what to do about my third treatment. I will be passing through TN July 2-4 but apparently she is gone again. No one seems to care about scheduling.

I received friendly, knowledgeable service from Dr. Barbara Wolff. She is very pleasant and really has a way of putting you at ease. There are two reasons Cumberland gets three instead of five stars - 1. The wait. I went to the appointment on my lunch break and was not thrilled with a 25 minute wait in the lobby (the lady sitting next to me told me that they always keep her waiting as well), but what really knocked down the stars on this experience was. 2.
The front office lady (short hair with a mix of blonde and brown streaks) visibly didnt care when I told her that I didnt have much more time to wait. No 'I'm so sorry, let me see what I can do.' Nothing. Did. Not. Care. After I told her I was on my lunch break, she just stared at me as if to say 'and what do you want me to do about it?' It was really condescending and awkward.
If you cant muster a genuine, 'I'm so sorry about that!' in the name of good service when a client has been kept waiting, what in the heck are you doing working with people? Anyway, everyone else was wonderful and Dr. Wolff restored my faith in the practice. She cares about what you have to say and listens; she seems very thorough in her work, which I really like.
I didn't feel like a number! :) I definitely recommend Dr. Wolff and I also recommend a better front office person; they communicate so much about the business before you ever meet with the doctor.
