In 1952, William Arendshorst, MD, began his practice of ophthalmology in Holland. A pioneering spirit, he brought modern cataract surgery, intraocular lens implants, corneal transplantation, retinal detachment repair, and oculoplastic surgery to West Michigan. This same spirit continues today; Eric Snyder, MD, and Benjamin Currie, MD have introduced state-of-the-art cataract surgery and Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS), posterior chamber lens implants, argon and YAG laser surgery, Visian vision correction, and other medical surgical and diagnostic innovations to Holland.
Since the practice was founded in 1952, Holland Eye has been a pioneer in eye care in Western Michigan, having introduced modern cataract surgery and Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS), corneal transplantation, LASIK, Visian ICL and other leading-edge techniques and diagnostic innovations to the region.

Appointment began right on time. Technician was very efficient and complete. Doctor was flex by providing me with multiple prescriptions for different kinds of glasses. She had good notes from previous appointments and we discussed any changes to existing conditions. I couldn't ask for anything more.

I am 76 and have been going to opthamologists since age 2 and have been legally blind since birth. When I lived in Chicago my opthamologists were the president of the northwestern university hospital, head of opthamology at Rush Pres hospital and an assistant professor of opthamology at the University of Illinois. Dr Snyder has been my doctor for about 20 years.
He is careful, thorough, and takes time to explain my problems. He recently did cataract surgery on what is my good eye, supposedly. I trusted him with the vision I have and my surgery went great. I don't have a lot of vision to lose and he makes sure I keep it

Dr. Currie is very knowledgeable concerning my eye problems. The biggest issue with appointments is the time in the exam room waiting for the Dr. Today we sat and waited over an hour for the Dr to get to me. I do not know the reason for such a long wait unless the Dr is being overbooked. When the Dr finally came to me he spent maybe between 10-15 minutes.
He is very through and explains things so we understand what he is telling us. It is just the terribly long wait to see him after all tests have been done by others. The wait time needs to change!

I made an appointment for an eye exam for glassed and was charged for a medical eye exam. This made me ineligible for my eyeglass insurance. I had been told last spring that my eyes were in good shape - no problems other than dry eye which was treated at that time. Must be they could charge me more for a medical eye exam than they would get from my eyeglass benefit. Dishonest!
